LATE RIDING CHANGES:

When Jockey L. Dillon was unable to fulfil his engagements due to personal reasons, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary. Jockey Dillon will be interviewed at a later date.

Race 1: The Reef Properties Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st LIGHT DREAMER 2nd ONE STOP 3rd DODGE THE GREY 4th - WISEGUY

In the early stages DODGE THE GREY (C. Pye) raced wide.

At the 600 metres LIGHT DREAMER (D. Simmons) was inclined to hang out across the heels of BRASHERE (T. Bannon).

Near the 200 metres STRATEGIC GLORY (D. Hayse) was inclined to lay in.

Race 2: Mackay Property Maintenance Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st ROFRANOZ 2nd HE’S A TERROR 3rd PURE WIDOW 4th - NORSTROEM

Due to extenuating circumstances, stewards permitted trainer D. Symons to add blinkers to the approved gear for ROFRANOZ. Mr Symons was fined $200 under A.R. 54.

Stewards permitted trainer G. Jackson to race NORSTROEM (C. Pye) with blinkers and pacifiers. Stewards will confirm with RISA the addition of pacifiers to the gelding’s approved gear.

At the start PURE WIDOW (M. Usher) shifted inwards and bumped SMALL WORLD (App. A. Kitson).

In the early stages PAKA MIKA (App. K. Grace) raced greenly and at about the 600 metres was inclined to lay in. PAKA MIKA then finished at the tail of the field. Trainer A. Usher was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare for being non-competitive.

When Jockey T. Bannon, the rider of ROFRANOZ, steadied the pace of the race near the the 1100 metres, OUTBACK WAYTIN (J. Babarovich), which was following, was steadied to avoid the heels of ROFRANOZ resulting in HAYYLER’S DEVIL (A. Coome) and THE OX (D. Hayes) also having to steady.

At approximately the 300 metres HAYYLER’S DEVIL had to steady when OUTBACK WAYTIN shifted out.

Over the concluding stages ROFRANOZ was inclined to shift out under pressure.

Race 3: DGH Engineering Class 3 Plate - 1560 metres
1st – SHORT TRIP 2nd ARISTON 3rd PAYTEEVEE 4th - ARIADNE

PAYTEEVEE (App. S. Cooke) jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. In the early and middle stages PAYTEEVEE was inclined to over-race. When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of PAYTEEVEE Apprentice Cooke stated that gelding was inclined to over-race for the majority of the event and that he had elected to restrain the gelding from improving onto the heels of SHORT TRIP (App. K. Grace) and was unable to shift out and obtain clear running due to ARIADNE (A. Coome) racing to his immediate outside. Trainer J. Manzelmann was questioned regarding the performance and tactics employed on PAYTEEVEE. Mr J. Manzelmann stated that he instructed his Apprentice to take up a handy position, however was of the opinion that due to the Apprentice’s lack of experience the gelding jumped awkwardly and due to the Apprentice trying to carry out his instructions the gelding subsequently over-raced. Bearing this in mind Trainer J. Manzelmann was satisfied with the performance. He had sought the services of a senior rider on this occasion, however was unable to do so and stewards note that he would engage a senior rider for its next race start Saturday 7th September 2013.

CHARISM (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

App. K. Grace was fined $100 under A.R.137A(4)(b) for using his whip on SHORT TRIP in an action that raised his whip above shoulder height.

Race 4: O’Reily Realty BenchMark 75 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st DORF RILEY 2nd STARLISTIC 3rd METALLIC GREY 4th – PRINCELY

Trainer R. Vale was fined $100 under L.R.67 for failing to declare Jockey T. O’Hara as the rider of PRINCE MONASHEE by the prescribed time.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by App. B. Appo, the rider of METALLIC GREY which finished third, against DORF RILEY (J. Stephens) being declared the winner, alleging interference at approaching the 800 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol videos and taking into account their own observations, stewards found that at approximately the 800 metres DORF RILEY shifted in when insufficiently clear of METALLIC GREY, which had to be checked and lost momentum. Stewards were satisfied that the interference caused by DORF RILEY to METALLIC GREY exceeded the margin between the two runners at the finish. Accordingly, the protest was upheld and the placings amended to read: 1st, STARLISTIC; 2nd, METALLIC GREY; 3rd, DORF RILEY; 4th PRINCELY.
At a subsequent inquiry Jockey Stephens was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the 800 metres he permitted DORF RILEY to shift in when insufficiently clear of METALLIC GREY, forcing METALLIC GREY to be checked and lose its position in the field. Jockey Stephens was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 meetings, to commence at midnight 3rd September 2013, up to and including 12th September 2012.

Race 5: Fiesta Rentals Class 3 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st OSCARMANIA 2nd - EXCAPLISHE 3rd FUNDIDO 4th - SKALATONIC

As the start was effected FUNDIDO (A. Coome) reared and lost ground.

Near the 650 metres GREAT GRETZKY (T. Bannon) dipped.

In the middle stages OSCARMANIA (M. Usher), which raced wide throughout, was inclined to lay in.

At about the 800 metres SUPERB EFFORT (App. K. Gates) became unbalanced for a few strides.

Race 6: Blacks Real Estate Open Handicap – 1300 metres
1st SHOWMETHEMONEY 2nd SO PRETENTIOUS 3rd DUX BELLORUM 4th - BLAZE TO FORTUNE

Prior to the race Trainer A.Cameron informed stewards that he will instruct Jockey D. Simmons not to use the whip on DUX BELLORUM unless it is absolutely necessary, in accordance with the gelding’s most recent racing pattern. DUX BELLORUM was ridden accordingly.

As the start was effected TITANIUM ROCK (T. O’Hara) bounded in the air and lost ground.

SCHRAPNEL GULLY (C. Pye) was slow to begin.

At approximately the 1100 metres SCHRAPNEL GULLY improved up onto heels, shifted out and bumped POPNAE (J. Stephens).

Prior to the 100 metres Jockey A. Coome, the rider of SO PRETENTIOUS had difficulty pulling his whip through, as it had become entangled in the mare’s mane.

POPNAE and EXCEED ALL LIMITS (M. Usher) raced wide throughout.

When asked about the seeming disappointing performance of EXCEED ALL LIMITS, Jockey M. Usher stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position if possible, however after being a little awkward at the start the gelding failed to travel well throughout. Jockey Usher added that the gelding had failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Stewards will conduct a follow-up interview with trainer W. Pomfrett. A post-race veterinary examination of EXCEED ALL LIMITS did not reveal any abnormalities.
