Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1000 metres

MARSCAYS EDITION (App K Yoneyama) stumbled on jumping.

Approaching the 900 metres MARSCAYS EDITION (App K Yoneyama), which had improved between SYCRO (I Coombes) and VOLKALO (L Appo), was tightened for room and lost considerable ground. Stewards established that VOLKALO (L Appo) had received pressure from LET’S BE MARY (C Kearney) which was been dictated in by GYPSY STORM (App K Cross) who had shifted in from a wide barrier. Stewards reprimanded Apprentice Kayla Cross for shifting ground when not clear to do so. Stewards also noted that SYCRO (I Coombes) had shifted out slightly at the same time as the other runners where shifting in.
VOLKALO (L Appo) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages forcing DARRAFLYER (P Randall) wider on the track.
Jockey Shaun Bayliss pleaded guilty (AR144) for failing to weigh in as fourth placegetter and was subsequently fined the sum of $100.
After correct weight was declared it was discovered by stewards that
GYPSY STORM (App Kayla Cross), SOVEREIGN SPIRIT (Shaun Bayliss) and
LET’S BE MARY (Chris Kearney) had jumped from the incorrect barriers.
At a subsequent Stewards inquiry apprentice jockey Kayla Cross was found guilty under the terms of AR175 (k) for jumping from the incorrect barrier and was fined $100. Jockey Shaun Bayliss pleaded guilty under the terms of AR175 (k) for jumping from the incorrect barrier and was fined $100. Jockey Chris Kearney pleaded guilty under the terms of AR175 (k) for jumping from the incorrect barrier and was fined $100.
