GENERAL:

Race 1 – MISS NOTE and Race 4 - MAJOR BLOT, WESTERN MAIZCAY and FRENCH GARRISON were all scratched due to no riders being available.

Race 3 FLIGHT COMMAND – Trainer Mrs N King reported that the horse had injured itself on route to the track. It was inspected by the vet and subsequently deemed unfit to race and was a late scratching at 12.35pm. Mrs King was advised that a vet certificate would be required prior to the horse’s resumption of racing.

RACE 1: MAYOR DON WAUGH BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000M

LET THE CHIPS FALL - jumped outwards at the start coming into contact with JEPTOO causing that runner to lose ground.

DAILY PLANET – raced wide in the early stages.

JEPTOO – after losing ground in the early stages improved to race wide with no cover for the remainder of the race.

RACE 2: MONTO FESTIVAL/HIGH SCHOOL REUNION QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

DELIGHTSOME – was slow to begin.

VALDA – was slow to begin and raced wide in the early stages of the race.

PEARL’S DESTINY – suffered a laceration to its near foreleg during the running of the race.

STRIKE ZONE – after being placed in the barriers became fractious, struck its head and got cast in the gates. After being freed from the barriers was examined by the vet and declared unfit to start. Stewards ordered the scratching of STRIKE ZONE at 2.24pm on vet’s advice. All monies were ordered to be refunded. Deductions due to the late scratching of STRIKE ZONE were: Win bets less 22c in the dollar and Place bets for first and second less 23c in the dollar. SP bets were not subject to deductions.

The start of this race was delayed whilst STRIKE ZONE was returned to the enclosure.

Connections were advised that STRIKE ZONE must obtain a vet certificate of fitness prior to trialling or racing and must pass in an official barrier trial before returning to racing.

RACE 3: MONTO CATTLE & COUNTRY SUSTAIN OPEN HANDICAP 1200M

BROWN DOUBT - was slow to begin.

EQUABLE - was slow to begin.

DIRECT DEBIT – raced wide in the middle stages of the race.

RACE 4: JEFF SEENEY MP CLASS B HANDICAP 1200M

FISCAL CLIFF – after casting a plate and proving difficult to be reshod the farrier removed the other hind plate therefore it raced bare behind.

CRAIGLEA BROOKE – was slow to begin and then raced wide for the majority of the race.

AMERICAN WEST – rider Ms. B. R. Derbyshire was asked to explain why she lost ground in the middle stages of the race. Jockey Derbyshire explained that when horses improved to her inside and to her outside the gelding became timid and was reluctant to hold its position.

RACE 5: KEN O’DOWD MP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400M

JUST FOR KEEPS – was slow to begin and reluctant to stretch out in the early stages of the race. When questioned jockey J Missen said it was the horse’s normal pattern to be tardy away from the barrier and even though it was a long way back he felt comfortable with the horse’s action. He also stated that it finished off the race reasonably after giving away such a big start. Stewards noted that even though it raced well back under riding, the horse did eventually improve to tack onto the back of the field approaching the 600m, and in stewards' opinion also finished the race off reasonably.
