MOUNT ISA RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 19/7/03
STEWARDS PANEL: T O Anderson (CHAIRMAN); C J Waters(Deputy); M. Habberman (Club Starter)
WEATHER – FINE TRACK – FAST RAIL – TRUE
RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE – 900 METRES (4 Starters)
BUSTER COOMA was scratched after final acceptances at 7 00am race morning after the trainer reported that the horse had become cast in its overnight box. PETE’S DREAM (T. Hill) who was having its first race start was a fraction slow into stride when a start was effected. Approaching the 550 metre mark CITY PRIDE (I. Coombes) appeared to falter in its action and was subsequently retired from the event, therefore failing to complete the race. A subsequent veterinary inspection revealed that the horse had damaged its offside hind stifle. Connections were advised that they would have to furnish to the Stewards a full veterinary clearance under terms of LR36(b) prior to the colt starting again.
RACE 2: CLASS 2HANDICAP – 900 METRES (7 Starters)
WESTERLY (M. Campbell) lost considerable ground at the start due to the horse being very slow into stride. It was noted by Stewards that FAST HARVEST (K. Ballard) was trapped wide on the track for almost the entire event. On returning to scale Jockey M. Campbell the rider of WESTERLY reported to the Stewards that his horse after being slow away then resented the sand being thrown back and failed to handle the track at any stage throughout the event.
RACE 3: CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1000 metres (6 Starters)
Over the final 150 metres CONNICK (D. Jones) shifted outwards under pressure as a result the forward movement of MIGHTY WONG (A. Spradau) was hampered slightly at that point. Jockey Michael Campbell the rider of TRIMEN was charged and found guilty of a breach of the rules under the terms of AR145 in that he returned to scale in excess of 1kg overweight. Jockey Campbell was fined the sum of fifty dollars ($50.00).
RACE 4: WEIGHT FOR AGE – 1200 METRES (9 Starters)
No reportable racing incidents in running.
RACE 5: CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES (5 Starters)
MOOCH SMOOCH was scratched after final acceptances at 3pm on Friday 18/7/2003 due to the horse suffering from stone bruise. As Jockey M. Campbell was unable to make the required weight, Jockey T. Hill was substituted as the rider for ABBEY ROYALE. Jockey M. Campbell was fined the sum of fifty dollars ($50
.00) under the terms of AR120(b) (Overweight). Approaching the 1200 metre mark CLEVER LASS (M. Cummings) was hampered when MAGIC BANNER (Apprentice T. Brummell) had a tendency to hang outwards at that point. Approaching the 150 metre mark GOLDEN GOOSE (J. Haitana) shifted outwards sharply under pressure resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten on more than one occasion. Correct Weight on this event was delayed when Jockey D. Jones the rider of AZTEC COPPER (NZ) wished to view the Stewards Patrol Film footage of the concluding stages of the event with a view to lodging an objection on behalf of his mount. No objection was forthcoming and correct weight was semaphored on the Judges final placings.
GENERAL: 2 bookmakers fielded at the meeting: JD Comerford; S Troxell.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED AND SAMPLES FORWARDED TO THE RACING SCIENCE CENTRE FOR ANALYSIS.
