MOUNT ISA RACE CLUB INC. STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 12/06/2004

STEWARDS PANEL: CJ Waters (Chairman), Tony Anderson (Deputy); Kevin Druery (Deputy); Corinne Dagger (Club Camera) & Amanda McHugh (Photo Finish).

WEATHER – FINE. TRACK – FAST. RAIL – TRUE.

GENERAL:
During the pre-race checking the Stewards noted that the stake money displayed in the race book did not correspond with that advertised in the June Edition of the Queensland Racing Magazine. The anomalies were as follows:

Races 1,2 & 4: Calendar $4,600, first $2,990, second $920, third $460, fourth $230; Race Book: $4,000, first $2,600, second $800, third $400, fourth $200.
Race 3: Calendar – QTIS Prize money - $8,600, first $5,790, second $1,720, third $860, fourth $230; Race Book – QTIS Prize money $8000, first $5,400, second $1,600, third $800, fourth $200;
Race 5: Calendar - $6,800 first $4,420, second $1,360, third $680, fourth $340; Race Book - $6200, first $4030, second $1,240, third $620, fourth $310.
Race 6: Calendar - $11,000 first $7,215, second $2,200, third $1,110, fourth $555; Race Book - $10,500 first $6,825, second $2100, third $1,050, fourth $525

The Club was advised of the discrepancy and the Stewards Report coversheet filled out as per the amended program advertised in the June edition of the Queensland Racing Magazine.

Scratchings: Race 1- FAULTY FUSE. Race 2- MANZALA, RAW FACTOR. Race 3 OSHABERI (late scratching at 1:55 pm no rider available).

RACE 1: OVER 60 YEARS SERVICE
CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 0900 METRES (6 Starters)

No reportable racing incidents in running.

RACE 2: TOYOTA LANDCRUISER
CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 0900 METRES (7 Starters)

FAULTY FUSE (T. Phillips) proved difficult to load. Shortly after the start JAKQUIG (K. Ballard) was severely hampered when IVORY BIRD (Ms. R. Seymour) shifted inwards. The incident was compounded by RAW SEQUE (L. Critoph) who had jumped awkwardly and shifted out marginly. Sewards instructed Jockey Ms. R. Seymour that they expect her to make a greater effort to relieve pressure on the inside runner than she demonstrated in this incident. Apprentice T. Brummell the rider of PRINCE MALDINI was admonished by Stewards for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 700 metre mark, resulting in IVORY BIRD (Ms R. Seymour) having to ease slightly at that point. The forward movement of both JAKQUIG (K. Ballard) and PRINCE MALDINI (Apprentice T. Brummell) were hampered slightly at the 600 metre mark when SIR CELESTIAL (A. Spradau) was only just sufficiently clear to shift inwards at that point. Jockey A. Spradau was instructed to take more care in future when permitting his mounts to shift ground. The announcement of correct weight was delayed when both Apprentice T. Brummell the rider of the second place getter PRINCE MALDINI and Jockey K. Ballard the rider of the third place getter JUKQUIG wished to view the Stewards patrol film footage. After doing so and as no objections were forthcoming, correct weight was semaphored on the Judges final placings.

RACE 3: GOODYEAR/PEDDERS QTIS
MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 METRES (11 Starters)

OSHABERI was a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 1.55pm at the request of the Trainer Mrs D. L. Sanderson, when the only rider available refused to carry out the engagement when offered the mount. At a subsequent enquiry Jockey W. Kenning pleaded guilty to a breach of the rules under the terms of LR 51(1) in that he refused to carry out a riding engagement after being offered the mount and was fined the sum of $200.00 (two hundred dollars) and was instructed by the Stewards to ensure this fine was paid by the 12/07/2004 (one month). No alteration to betting was required with regards to the late withdrawal of OSHABERI. CLANGING (A. Spradau) was slow into stride due to the gate on its barrier being slow to open. This incident was brought to the attention of the Starter who carried out maintenance on all starting gates prior to the running of the next event. On returning to scale Jockey M. Cummings the rider of HOT SADDLES reported that the gelding which was having its first race start raced very greenly throughout the entire event. Both the Race winner CLANGING and third place getter KING AND CAPTAIN qualified for the QTIS bonus.

RACE 4: TOYOTA GENUINE PARTS & QUALITY SERVICE
CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1450 METRES (5 Starters)

BOLD VOYAGE (A. Spradau) was slow away. Jockey Ms D Slack-Smith reported her mount KING OF THE REALM had failed to stretch out from the 800 metre onwards. A subsequent inspection by the club veterinary surgeon failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 5: RAY DONALDSON SNR MEMORIAL
WEIGHT FOR AGE – 1200 METRES (9 Starters)

COUNTY JET (D. Jones) lost considerable ground at the start when the horse was slow into stride. DR. FREEZE (Ms D Slack-Smith) over raced with its head in the air losing ground at the 650 metre mark, due to the horse resenting the sand being thrown back from the race leaders at that point. COUNTRY JET (D. Jones) raced very wide on the track when rounding the turn into the home straight.

RACE 6: BELL & MOIR 2004 MOUNT ISA CUP
OPEN HANDICAP- 1800 METRES (7 Starters)

Random pre-race swab samples were obtained from BETHEL, RACE CAREER, AZZEAL (NZ), FRENCH WATERS and WAR CHANT. FRENCH WATERS (M. Cummings) lost ground when the horse reared when the start was effected. Approaching the 1400 metre mark FRENCH WATERS (M. Cummings) over-raced and shifted outwards having to be steadied off the heels of BETHEL (W. Kenning) and WAR CHANT (T. Phillips). This situation was compounded when PASSER PASSION (L. Critoph) improved to the inside of FRENCH WATERS and also over-raced onto the heels of WAR CHANT (T. Phillips) resulting in the horse shifting out and making heavy contact with FRENCH WATERS (M. Cummings). Upon returning to scale both Jockeys L. Critoph and M. Cummings reported that they had experienced extreme difficulties in restraining their mounts in the early and middle stages of the event.

GENERAL: 3 bookmakers fielded at the meeting: (JD Comerford; GN Saunders & S. Troxell)

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED AND SAMPLES FORWARDED TO THE RACING SCIENCE CENTRE FOR ANALYSIS.
