Race 1: Winter Is Waning – Class 1 Handicap. Distance – 1200 Metres - (5 Starters).
1st – THE COOLER 2nd – MINUTE WALTZL 3rd – INHIBIT 4th – TUSCAN MIRAGE
The starting time for this event was delayed approximately 40 minutes due to the late arrival of the ambulance, as it was called to a medical emergency in the area shortly before the advertised starting time. Due to this delay all stating times for the remaining events were amended accordingly. MARCHINETTE (D. Jones) jumped inwards at the start and bumped INHIBIT (D. Ballard). MINUTE WALTZ (A. Spradau) jumped awkwardly and shifted outwards, resulting in the forward movement of TUSCAN MIRAGE (J. Felix) being hampered for a short distance. INHIBIT (D. Ballard) raced wide on the track when rounding the home turn.
Race 2: New Foals Frolic – Maiden Plate. Distance – 0900 Metres - (6 Starters).
1st – QUICK MAN 2nd – CONNAISSANCE 3rd – DESERT KNOWLEDGE 4th – IRONHIDE
DESERT KNOWLEDGE (D. Ballard) was fractious en-route to the starting point. Shortly after the start, GREVILLEA BOY (Apprentice J. Rudd) lost its footing and stumbled resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced for a short distance and almost being dislodged, subsequently the horse lost a considerable amount of ground. Following this incident, GREVILLEA BOY (Apprentice J. Rudd) was taken wider on the track by its rider, in an endeavour to avoid the dust and sand that was being thrown back. No other reportable racing incidents in running. Following the event Jockey J. Esser became ill, due to dehydration and the effects of a virus. Jockey Esser was treated by the Ambulance officer in attendance, who advised the Stewards that Jockey Esser was unwell and therefore unfit to fulfil his remaining riding engagement at the meeting.
Race 3: Looking For Spring - Class 6 Plate. Distance – 1000 Metres - (4 Starters).
1st – SO SHINY 2nd – GOLD STARS 3rd – BRILLIANT CLANG 4th – JESTERS LAD
SUNOVAMAIZCAY was scratched after final acceptances. SO SHINY (K. Ballard); JESTERS LAD (D. Ballard) and BRILLIANT CLANG (Apprentice J. Rudd) were all fractious in the barriers whilst awaiting a start to be effected. SO SHINY (K. Ballard) jumped awkwardly and stumbled when the gates were released. JESTERS LAD (D. Ballard) was a fraction slow into stride when a start was affected. Approaching the 750 metre mark, JESTERS LAD (D. Ballard) was obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance when GOLD STARS (R. Lock) shifted inwards momentarily at that point, when insufficiently clear to do so. Subsequently Jockey R. Lock was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in future in similar circumstances. Leaving the 250 metre mark, BRILLIANT CLANG (Apprentice J. Rudd) hung inwards abruptly (despite the efforts of its rider) and bumped with GOLD STARS (R. Lock). BRILLIANT CLANG (Apprentice J. Rudd) continued to hang inwards over the final 100 metres, placing its rider at a disadvantage in attempting to ride his mount out over the concluding stages of the event. A routine random swab sample was obtained from the second placegetter GOLD STARS.
Race 4: Spring Racing Is Coming - Class 4 Handicap. Distance – 1100 Metres - (3 Starters).
1st – MOZZIES COZZEES 2nd – KONABOS 3rd – MON SEUL AMOUR
Both STIRLING and CENTRALIZER (NZ) were scratched after final acceptances on veterinary advice, and veterinary certificates were furnished to the stewards verifying the condition of both horses. No reportable racing incidents in running.
Race 5: Be Here On Spring Cup Day – Open Handicap. Distance – 1100 Metres - (6 Starters).
1st – MURDSA 2nd – TRICKY DICKY 3rd – CLASSIC WIN 4th – PICNIC POINT
As Jockey J. Esser was indisposed Stewards approved a late riding change with T. Brummell subsequently being semaphored as the rider for TRICKY DICKY. Both RAW SEQUEL (M. Cummings) and CLASSIC WIN (J. Felix) were a fraction slow away. HEART OF LIGHT (D. Ballard) lost ground in the early and middle stages, when unable to maintain sufficient pace to go the early speed of the event. PICNIC POINT (A. Spradau) was obliged to race wide (from its extreme outside barrier) in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 600 metre mark, RAW SEQUEL (M. Cummings) hung outwards and lost its position when obliged to ease and steady of the heels of PICNIC POINT (A. Spradau).
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
