General: The connections of LORD BARON advised the stewards that the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack at Cloncurry track work on Thursday morning 24/05/2007. Stewards informed the connections as this was the geldings first (1st) bleeding attack, the horse is now barred from racing for a period of three (3) months (as per the terms of AR 53A(4)(b)). The geldings Trainer Mr Ted Snelling informed the stewards that it was his intention to retire the gelding.

Race 1: Super V – Class 2 Handicap. Distance – 1200 Metres - (8 Starters).

1st – DAYLIGHT DIAMOND 2nd – GUILT TRIP (NZ) 3rd – SALTY BAY 4th – GUNMAN

Due to an error in the race book, Apprentice J. Rudd was inadvertently omitted as the rider for THE COOLER. TESKE (M. Cummings) was slow away. BENNY THE REUS (D. Ballard) jumped awkwardly, and became unbalanced for a short distance. THE COOLER (Apprentice J. Rudd) jumped outwards when a start was effected. Shortly after the start, TESKE (M. Cummings) over raced and threw its head in the air, resulting in the horse losing ground. GUNMAN (T. Brummell) was obliged to race wide on the track (from its extreme outside barrier) for almost the entire event.

Race 2: Eversharp Lip Systems – Maiden Plate. Distance – 1100 Metres - (4 Starters).

1st – ARDEKUHNI 2nd – OSCARLENO 3rd – IRONHIDE 4th – BALLROOM BEAU

RANGE ROVER was a late scratching at 08:25am, after the stewards were informed that the gelding had sustained injuries to its legs, after escaping from its night stall. No alteration to betting was required. Stewards informed the connections of RANGE ROVER that a veterinary certificate of soundness (as per the terms of LR36(b)) would be required to be furnished prior to the gelding being permitted to start again. After being loaded, LOVE TO KNOW (Apprentice C. Gilby) became wedged between the back gates of its starting stall, and as the attendants attempted to free the mare, she became extremely fractious and escaped riderless, returning back to the saddling enclosure area. Subsequently the horse was declared a late scratching at 03:35 pm, by order of the stewards. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies wagered on the withdrawn horse to be refunded in full, together with betting deductions of 20 cents the win and 21 cents the place on all successful bets made prior to withdrawal of LOVE TO KNOW. OSCARLENO (B. Cornell) was reluctant to load. ARDEKUHNI (A. Spradau) lost a considerable amount of ground at the start, due to the gelding standing flat footed when the gates were released. No other reportable racing incidents in running. Stewards took no action in relation to the barrier behaviour of LOVE TO KNOW other than to note the circumstances involved, after the starter and barrier attendants reported that there were mitigating circumstances involved. Mr Les Smerdon (the trainer of LOVE TO KNOW) did however inform the stewards that he would endeavour to give the mare further barrier education prior to starting again.

Race 3: Sidewinder – Class 4 Handicap. Distance – 0900 Metres - (5 Starters).

1st – MILORA MAJOR 2nd – QUICK MAN 3rd – CHYNA SUCCESS 4th – GIRL OF FORTUNE

JESTERS LAD was a late scratching by order of the stewards at 02:05pm, acting on veterinary advice which revealed the gelding to be lame in the off side front (RSC veterinary incident report 2081 refers). No alteration to betting was required. Stewards informed the connections of JESTERS LAD that a veterinary certificate of soundness (as per the terms of LR36(b)) would be required to be furnished prior to the gelding being permitted to start again. When a start was effected, QUICK MAN (Apprentice C. Gilby) jumped inwards and brushed with GIRL OF FORTUNE (A. Spradau). MILORA MAJOR (Apprentice J. Rudd) was obliged to race wide on the track (from its extreme outside barrier) in the early and middle stages of the event. No other reportable racing incidents in running.

Race 4: Bradken Resources – Weight For Age. Distance – 1000 Metres – (4 Starters).

1st - KING WELLS 2nd - GRAND FILANTE (NZ) 3rd - PICNIC POINT 4th - MURDSA

CENTA SEQUALO was a late scratching by order of the stewards at 02:05pm, acting on veterinary advice which revealed the gelding had sustained an off side front tendon strain (RSC veterinary incident report 2082 refers). No alteration to betting was required. Stewards informed the connections of CENTA SEQUALO that a veterinary certificate of soundness (as per the terms of LR36(b)) would be required to be furnished prior to the gelding being permitted to start again. LUSTEGIC (T. Brummell) was a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 04:45pm, acting on the advice of the Starter when the gelding refused to load. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies wagered on the withdrawn horse to be refunded in full with betting deductions of 19 cents the win and 20 cents the place on all successful bets made prior to the withdrawal of LUSTEGIC. Stewards informed the connections of LUSTEGIC that the gelding is now barred from racing until it passes a successful barrier trial under simulated race day conditions, (as per the terms of LR 36(b)). Approaching the 800 metre mark, KING WELLS (K. Ballard) was obliged to ease and alter course after steading of the heels of GRAND FILANTE (NZ) (Apprentice C. Gilby), when that horse shifted inwards at that point. At a subsequent inquiry, Apprentice C. Gilby (the rider of GRAND FILANTE (NZ)) was advised to exercise more care under similar circumstances in future

Race 5: Minerals Processing – Open Handicap. Distance – 1700 Metres - (5 Starters).

1st – ROYAL BULLION 2nd – REGULUS (NZ) 3rd – HEART OF LIGHT 4th – BYWORD

Leaving the 1550 metre mark, MY FYVEIGHT (M. CUMMINGS) (who was pulling hard and over racing), hung outwards, obliging both REGULUS (NZ) (Apprentice C. Gilby) and ROYAL BULLION (D. Jones) to race wider on the track at that point. Approaching the 1300 metre mark, MY FYVEIGHT (M. CUMMINGS) threw its head in the air and over raced, when its rider attempted to settle his mount in behind the race leader BYWORD (K. Ballard). REGULUS (NZ) (Apprentice C. Gilby) had difficulty obtaining a clear run approaching the 150 metre mark. The semaphoring of correct weight was delayed, when Apprentice C. Gilby (the rider of the second placegetter REGULUS (NZ)) wished to view the patrol film footage of the final 200 metres. After viewing the film footage no objection was forthcoming and correct weight was semaphored on the judge’s final placings. .
