Race 1: Maiden SW H’cap - 800m
Ist Flamingo Rox 2nd Badoom 3rd Laura’s Spririt

HIGHWAY WON was declared a late scratching at 12.55 pm when there were insufficient riders on course due to jockey C. Schumacher reporting ill and being unable to take his mounts at today’s meeting.

BADOOM (D. Evans), which was having its first race start, was reluctant to proceed to the barriers and then proved a little difficult to load. Trainer J. Dixon was advised that a warning would be placed on that colt’s manners.

ROYAL RETINUE (D. McMaster) and LAURA’S SPIRIT (O. Turpin) were both slow to begin.

FLAMINGO ROX (C. Dixon) was inclined to lay out in the early stages of the event, and shortly after came into contact with BADOOM.

Approaching the 400m, SPENIT (S. Wright) improved quickly onto the heels of BERNASHEE (G. Auckram) and shifted out and made contact with LAURA’S SPIRIT. Apprentice S. Wright, rider of SPENIT, was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.

On pulling up, apprentice D. Evans, rider of BADOOM, was dislodged. That colt then cantered back to the race day tie-up stables where it was quickly recaptured and returned to the saddling enclosure, and correct weight was duly given.

Race 2: Class B H’cap- 1000m
lst Runaway Shadow 2nd Sir Roy 3rd Phoenix Way

SUZY SILVER (C. Dixon) broke through the barriers and galloped for a circuit of the track, and was ultimately declared a late scratching at 2.20 pm. Prior to the declaration of all clear, stewards advised that all bets placed on that mare be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply: 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. A subsequent veterinary examination of the mare revealed superficial grazing to the off-hind stifle.

Apprentice S. Wright, the rider of PHOENIX WAY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that at a point approaching the 800m he permitted that gelding to shift in when insufficiently clear of OLA HASTA LUEGO (D. Evans), resulting in that horse being taken in on to SIR ROY (M. Hughes), which in turn resulted in ST BOLERO (D. Van Bekkum) and POWER TIKIT (B. Powell) both having to be checked. Apprentice Wright was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 8 December and to conclude midnight, Saturday, 26 December.

Apprentice D. Evans, rider of the 4th placegetter, OLA HASTA LUEGO, dismounted when that mare pulled up very short in its action. Stewards acting under AR142 subsequently declared correct weight without apprentice Evans weighing in. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed OLA HASTA LUEGO had sustained an injury to the off hind sesamoid bone. Trainer T. K. Williams was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the mare’s next race start.

Following the running of this event, stewards questioned apprentice S. Wright, apprentice O. Turpin and the official starter, Mr C. Ryan, when it was determined that PHOENIX WAY and RUNAWAY SHADOW had started from their incorrect barrier positions. RUNAWAY SHADOW, which had drawn barrier 8 in fact started from barrier 9, whilst PHOENIX WAY, which had drawn barrier 9, started from barrier 8. At a subsequent inquiry, evidence was tendered from both apprentices that they had been advised that S. Wright was drawn in barrier 8 and O. Turpin in barrier 9. Starter Mr C. Ryan produced evidence from his racebook that in fact this had not been the case and both apprentices were subsequently advised that it is their responsibility to ensure that their mounts are placed in the correct barrier order.

Race 3: Class 1 H’cap - 1200m - 1200m
Ist Etched In Black 2nd Okomoto Tamasakura 3rd Our Boy Buzz

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, apprentice C. Dixon, the rider of ACRI D’ORO, sought application to be declared a non runner. After viewing the official video and taking evidence from the starter, Mr C. Ryan, stewards deemed that ACRI D’ORO had in fact been afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared on the numbers 3, 4, 6, 1, 2. Trainer J. Dixon was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of ACRI D’ORO.

ACRI D’ORO (C. Dixon) began awkwardly.

Race 4: Maiden H’cap - 1200m
lst Kizzmirr 2nd Star Jain 3rd Go The Tiger

On jumping away, DENIRO MUY GRANDE (D. McMaster) was tightened for room between BLUE LANDER (S. Mossman) and BOLD MAL (R. Hancock), both of which shifted ground.

Shortly after the start, HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (B. Agland) shifted out and bumped PINSZAH (D. Evans).

Approaching the 250m, BOLD MAL (R. Hancock) shifted out to improve its position and in doing so bumped HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (B. Agland). R. Hancock, rider of BOLD MAL, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Race 5: Class 5 H’cap - 1200m
1st Pickastar 2nd Lumiere D’etoile 3rd My Millionaire

At the start, TOP’S LAD (R. Hancock) and PICKASTAR (C. Dixon) were tightened for room between SESEMANN (B. Agland), which shifted out, and MY MILLIONAIRE (D. McMaster), which shifted in.

LUMIERE D’ETOILE (O. Turpin) was slow to begin.

LUMIERE D’ETOILE raced wide throughout.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
