SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

As P. Spry was engaged to ride at another venue, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Stewards will interview P. Spry at a later date regarding him accepting rides at this meeting.


Race 1: Nanango RSL/Margaret & Gary Banks Memorial Maiden Plate 1000m
1st – Rushatus 2nd – Otago 3rd – Carnivale Queen 4th – I’ll Belt Ya

Stewards inquired into the reasons for jockey W. D’Avila being dually engaged to ride DO AS I COMMAND and GOLDEN SERA in this race. After taking evidence from W. D’Avila, trainers J. Dixon (DO AS I COMMAND) and N. McCall (GOLDEN SERA) Stewards were satisfied that W. D’Avila had accepted the ride on GOLDEN SERA firstly and due to a communication error was also engaged to ride DO AS I COMMAND. Stewards ruled that W. D’Avila ride GOLDEN SERA and permitted apprentice D. McWhinney to be the replacement rider for DO AS I COMMAND. Stewards took no further action regarding this matter.

OUR SPECIAL ANGEL (D. Gill) and REAL COOL COTON (J. Hoopert) were slow to begin.

RUSHATUS (K. Banks) began awkwardly and shifted in inconveniencing LET ME ROCK (C. Kearney) which had been initially slow to begin.

REAL COOL COTTON raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from D. Gill the rider of OUR SPECIAL ANGEL which raced a significant distance behind the field throughout the race. D. Gill stated the filly which was having its first race today was reluctant to stretch out and did not feel comfortable at any stage. A post race veterinary examination of OUR SPECIAL ANGEL failed to real any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Andrew reported to Stewards that subsequent to the event OUR SPECIAL ANGEL had pulled up shin sore in both forelegs and would now be sent for an immediate spell. Stewards took no further action on the undertaking that the filly would now be spelled.

Race 2: Caltex QLD Energy Class 2 Handicap 1000m
1st – Muffet 2nd – Jam Tin 3rd – Tycoon Is In 4th – Mossetarsi

B. Hull pleaded guilty to a charge under AR120 (b) for accepting a ride on KOPIAN when overweight. After considering that B. Hull was a half a kilogram overweight and that he was permitted to ride the horse after submissions from the connections, he was fined $100.

ROSE OF LAWRENCE (L. Henry) was slow to begin.

MOSSETARSI (J. Hoopert) reared as the gates opened and lost ground.

TYCOON IS IN (S. Bayliss) reared as the gates opened and then began very awkwardly losing a significant amount of ground. Stewards acknowledged that TYCOON IS IN was standing awkwardly in the barriers, however informed trainer G. Schrader that a warning would be placed against the barrier manners of the mare and that a repetition would lead to further action being taken.

NORSE INVADER (J. Letherby) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the home turn, MOSSETARSI shifted out to improve and in doing so forced ELECRIC SHOK (D. McWhinney) wider on the track which in turn forced NORSE INVADER wider on the track.

Near the 100m, MISS FONTANA (I. Coombes) had to be steadied when crowded for room between TYCOON IS IN and HE’S NO SAINT (W. D’Avila). At a subsequent inquiry, Stewards were of the opinion that MISS FONTANA had improved into a run where there was doubtful room and that at the same time HE’S NO SAINT shifted in marginally. In the circumstances W. D’Avila was asked to exercise care in future when shifting ground.

MOSSETARSI laid in under pressure in the straight.

M. Hughes the rider of MUFFET reported that his mount hung out rounding the home turn.


Race 3: McDonalds Kingaroy Class 5 Handicap 1200m
1st – Anchor Bolt 2nd – Honour Guard 3rd – Balboa Star 4th – Miss Knightmare

ORMOND ROAD (I. Coombes) began awkwardly.

DANE RYTHYM (C. Kearney) and DESERT LAIR (S. Bayliss) made contact on jumping away.

A short distance after the start, ANCHOR BOLT (S. Apthorpe) and AQUITAS (D. McWhinney) were tightened for room between MISS KNIGHTMARE (A. Smith) and ORMOND ROAD which shifted out.

ORMOND ROAD raced wide from the 800m.

HONOUR GUARD (K. Pedron) was held up for clear running from the 300m until near the 150m.

Near the 100m, ANCHOR BOLT laid in and bumped BALBOA STAR.


Race 4: Ken Mills Toyota QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m
1st –O’bro 2nd – Paparazzi Blonde 3rd – Strombo 4th – Hey Frisco

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer V. Heading regarding the late notification of rider for MISS ELANORA.

HEY FRISCO and CARRY THE RAV (K. Pedron) made contact on jumping away, a short distance later SIENNA ROYAL (B. Hull) shifted in and bumped CARRY THE RAV.

MY CALENDAR GIRL (K. Banks) began awkwardly and then shifted out forcing SCRAMBLING CAT (A. Smith) out which in turn took SIVER ASSASSIN (S. Bayliss) wider on the track.


An inquiry was opened into the reasons for HEY FRISCO losing ground leaving the 1000m. Evidence was taken from App. S. Arnold (WRIGHTY), App. J.Letherby (O’BRO) L. Finlay (STROMBO) and W. Clasohm (PAPARAZZI BLONDE). After considering the evidence and viewing the official race footage, it was established that HEY FRISCO when racing in restricted room between WRIGHTY and O’BRO to its inside was further tightened for room when both horses shifted ground slightly causing HEY FRISCO to be steadied and lose ground. Stewards could not attribute blame for this incident to any one rider and therefore took no further action.

MY CALENDAR GIRL raced wide in the early stages.

WHATYA RECKON (M. Hughes) raced wide from the 600m.

DOUBLE TOP (I. Coombes) raced wide throughout.

K. Banks the rider of MY CALENDAR GIRL reported that the filly was not suited by todays firmer track conditions.


Race 5: Washington Developments Nanango Cup Open Handicap 1600m
1st – Hidden Assets 2nd – Step Forward 3rd – Just A Classic 4th – Rocky Ground

HIDDEN ASSETS (K. Banks) began awkwardly and shifted in.

HOT FLUSHES (C. Kearney) was tightened for room at the start between JUST A CLASSIC (W. Clasohm) and PRIDE OF POLAND (S. Arnold) which shifted in.

PRIDE OF POLAND raced wide throughout.


Race 6: Thorps Jewellers Kingaroy Class B Handicap 1500m
1st – In Top Spin 2nd – Owie 3rd – Waasies Shadow 4th – Sea Force

IN TOP SPIN (S. Apthorpe) began awkwardly and shifted out.

PINK GARDENIA (W. Clasohm) jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.

VALDISANO (B. Hull) raced wide in the early stages.

Near the 400m, OUR DAISY LANE (S. Arnold) had to be steadied when improving onto the heels of another runner.

Stewards sought an explanation from rider B. Hull regarding the performance of VALDISANO. B. Hull stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the event, however when he asked the horse to improve leaving the 600m, it failed to respond to his riding. He added that the one and a half months between runs due to encountering some wet tracks may also had a bearing on today’s performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
