Race 1: First Avenue Machinery Mdn Plt – 800m
1st – Red Suit 2nd – Prime Quest 3rd – Mini Style 4th – Princess Felicia
MINI STYLE (I. Coombes) and RUSKY’S RUBY (J. Hoopert) were tightened for room at the start between PRIME QUEST (L. Dillon) and RED SUIT (C. Kearney) which shifted out.
CUP DAY BOY (App B. Appo) and FLINDERS BALI (W. Abbey) were slow to begin.
A short distance after the start RUSKY’S RUBY shifted out and bumped MINI STYLE which became unbalanced and shifted out, taking FLINDERS BALI out wider.
GIVE IT BERRIES (P. Wolfgram), MRS MOSS (A. Taylor), PRINCESS FELICIA (App B. Newport) and SWEET SWEET LOVE (S. Bayliss) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Near the 150m MRS MOSS had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of FLINDERS BALI which shifted out slightly under pressure.
Jockey P. Wolfgram, the rider of GIVE IT BERRIES, was given the opportunity to explain the below market expectations performance of his mount. He stated that while he was caught wide he didn’t believe this was a telling factor in the performance as the filly travelled well within herself until he placed her under pressure near the 400m and he was disappointed with the filly’s effort in the run to the finish when she failed to respond to his urgings.
Race 2: Deb Frecklington MP Class 1 H’cap – 1000m
1st – Double Top 2nd – Pretzels 3rd – Atlanta Queen 4th – Mr Pin Wa
The trainer of DOUBLE TOP, Mr G. Richardson was issued with a reprimand for not having the gelding on course in the designated area by the prescribed time.

MOSSTANGO (R. Hancock) and INTHANON (App B. Newport) raced wide throughout.
GRANDEUR KING was held up on the heels of INTHANON for a short distance near the 500m before obtaining a run to the inside of that horse.
Race 3: Huston Nissan Class 3 Plt – 1200m
1st – Unique Fuse 2nd – Royal Rocket 3rd – Skeeter 4th – Unrefuseable
The start of this race was delayed to allow the girth to be changed on NOELA’S ROMP after the saddle slipped during the preliminary resulting in jockey M. Abe being dislodged.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey A. Taylor the opportunity to view the patrol footage of the start of the race to ascertain whether DAIRY had been denied a fair start. After viewing the film jockey A. Taylor and stewards were satisfied that DAIRY had been allowed a fair start and that it had missed the start due to its own actions. Declaration of correct weight was further delayed to allow jockey D. McMaster the opportunity to view the photo finish of the race as she believed her mount ROYAL ROCKET had won the race. After viewing the photo finish jockey D. McMaster was of the view that the judge’s semaphored numbers were correct and correct weight was declared on those numbers.
Stable representative T. Symonds was advised that a $50 fine would be imposed for failing to present NOELA’S ROMP to race with a bit-lifter which was part of that mare’s approved gear. T. Symonds was also further advised that NOELA’S ROMP, which stood flat-footed at the start losing considerable ground, would be required to obtain two further barrier certificates, one of which must be obtained in an official trial, prior to her being permitted to race again.
DAIRY (A. Taylor) began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground as a result.
IN THE CARDS (T. Banks) jumped in the air as the start was effected.
GOLDEN HUT (N. Evans) was slow to begin.
SKEETER (App L. Tarrant) raced wide throughout.
OTAGO (I. Coombes) raced very wide throughout.
Race 4: McDonalds Kingaroy QTIS Mdn Plt – 1200m
1st – Ferocious Diva 2nd – Flagflamenco 3rd – Ahsoka Tano 4th – Winning Approach
Stewards questioned the trainer of BOTH EARS, Mr G. Teal, prior to the race as it had been reported subsequent to its most recent start at Wondai on July 21, where it stayed in the barriers at the start and failed to take any competitive part in that race, that it was his intention to spell the mare. Mr Teal stated that he kept the mare in work to get its bar lifted from that day and had experimented with a change of gear and had also altered the mare’s feed and BOTH EARS had since pleased him with its work so he had decided to continue with the mare’s current preparation.
STOP YOUR FUSSIN (M. Abe), which had not started in a race since April 2011, underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
BAANYA SON (G. Geran) was very slow to begin.
FLAGFLAMENCO (L. Appo), WELL THERE YOU GO (R. Hancock) and ALIVE IN PARIS (D. McMaster) were tightened for room at the start between YOUR MOVE (App L. Tarrant) and BOTH EARS (I. Coombes) both of which shifted ground. ALIVE IN PARIS had to be steadied as a result.
FLAGFLAMENCO over-raced in the early stages when caught wide before being allowed to stride forward to take up the lead near the 600m.
PERSIAN BOOK (L. Dillon) raced wide throughout.
ALIVE IN PARIS and AHSOKA TANO (N. Evans) bumped upon entering the straight.
FEROCIOUS DIVA (App B. Appo) hung-out under pressure in the straight.
Race 5: XXXX Gold/Carrollee Hotel Nanango Cup Open H’cap – 1600m
1st – Thunder Lane 2nd – Chilled 3rd – Driving Reign 4th – Music Maestro
The start of this race was delayed due to CHILLED (A.Taylor) being required to be re-saddled.
HARNEY (D. Gill) over-raced from the 1400m to the 1200m and took the first turn awkwardly.
ANCHOR BOLT (D. McMaster) raced wide throughout.
THUNDER LANE (App B. Appo) shifted in under pressure in the straight and near the 100m momentarily tightened the running of SIR EMLAND (L. Appo). Apprentice B. Appo was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
The rider of ANCHOR BOLT, D. McMaster, reported to Stewards following the event that she believed that the gelding may have been sore as she was not completely satisfied with its action upon returning to the saddling enclosure. Trainer G. Baker later reported to Stewards that ANCHOR BOLT was sore in the offside foreleg following the event, but had since recovered well and he was continuing with its preparation. Mr Baker was advised that he would need to provide a Veterinary Certificate of fitness prior to the gelding’s next race start.
A post-race Veterinary examination of SAVAGE RIVER (G. Geran), which failed to finish, revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections advised that it was their intention to retire the mare from racing.
Race 6: Caltex Energy Class B H’cap – 1600m
1st – Leica Fuse 2nd – Gold Record 3rd – Tatt’s Lucky 4th – Winning Again
JUST MAKE IT (T. Banks) and BOUNTY MISS (App B. Appo) bumped at the start.
WINNING AGAIN (M. Abe) raced wide throughout.
LEICA FUSE (R. Hancock) was inclined to lay-out rounding the home turn.
When asked to explain the seemingly disappointing performance of THIRD TIME LUCKY, jockey L. Appo explained that the horse over-raced in the early stages before settling well near the 1000m and he was happy with where he had the gelding positioned in the field. He added, however, that he had to place THIRD TIME LUCKY under pressure from near the 600m to maintain their position and he was disappointed with the way it responded to his urgings from that point.
