SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Gympie Turf Club 27.07.13 Race 4 Maiden Hdcp 1170meters
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the tactics adopted by App B Derbyshire, rider of ANDONA at the above meeting. Of concern were the tactics adopted by App Derbyshire where she failed to improve her position to the outside of runners leaving the 500metres and became held up on the heels and to the inside of the tiring HE’S A BOOMER for some distance before obtaining clear running approaching the 200metres. After taking into account the relative inexperienced race riding of App Derbyshire, and the fact that ANDONA was having its first race start, stewards advised App Derbyshire that in their opinion she erred in not coming to the outside of runners to improve leaving the 500metres and that her ride would be referred to the RQ Riding Advisory Panel. Trainer K Munce advised stewards that he would continue with the current racing preparation of ANDONA and that in his opinion the filly is better suited to races over more ground.

Jockey Coombes rider of RODIA was afforded the opportunity to comment on the disappointing performance. Jockey Coombes stated that the mare never travelled comfortably throughout the event, and when he applied pressure at a point near the 300m the mare failed to respond, and proved most disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer M. Jeynes also expressed his disappointment in the performance, and was advised to report any abnormalities that may come to light over the coming days to the stewards.

Race 3: MCDONALDS KINGAROY MDN HCP 1200m
1st – I Do Care 2nd – Chivas On Ice 3rd – Al Jalila 4th – My Joy Sue
Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of 2nd place CHIVAS ON ICE to view the stewards film to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge an objection against I DO CARE being declared the winner. After viewing the films the connections decided to lodge an objection, alleging interference near the home turn. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the stewards films, it was established that approaching the home turn I DO CARE did shift out in an endeavor to improve, and did cause interference to HABITUAL LASS, however CHIVAS ON ICE was always racing in a four wide position and received no interference as there was always room between the two runners, and therefore stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges placings.
At a subsequent inquiry I. Coombes, rider of I DO CARE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR.137(a) in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of HABITUAL LASS (L. Appo) which had to be checked when tightened for room. Jockey Coombes ‘s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight 10 August, and expire at midnight 21 August 2013.
Stewards have adjourned an inquiry with trainer S. Watters, into the reasons for AL JALILA failing to wear a cross over noseband, which was part of its advertised gear. Subsequently trainer S. Watters was issued with a reprimand.
OKINAWA (S. Bayliss) was slow to begin.

Stewards questioned apprentice B. Derbyshire rider of LADY OSCAR, regarding her riding of the mare over the concluding stages, inparticular her lack of vigour and the reason why when racing on the rail at a point near the 100m she looked to her inside. Apprentice Derbyshire stated that in her opinion the mare had not run out a strong mile and therefor did not fully test the mare to the line. Apprentice Derbyshire also added that at the stage when she looked behind her, she felt she had shifted out off the rail and was mindful of runners improving to her inside. Stewards noted apprentice Derbyshire’s comments, but reminded her not to keep herself open to questioning and reminded her of her obligation to ride her mount out to the end of the race.
