Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE – 800m

RED BUGATTI (J Hoopert) raced wide throughout.

Close to the finishing line RED BUGATTI shifted out abruptly resulting in J Hoopert becoming unbalanced.

At scale C Kearney, rider of RED MINT, reported the mare had a tendancy to climb in its action and not stretch out in the early and middle stages of the event, however found the line strongly when placed under full pressure in the straight. He added in his opinion RED MINT would be better suited in races over a longer distance than todays event.

Race 2: Class B HDCP - 1000m

As runners for this event were leaving the saddling enclosure and moving onto the track the strapper of JUST WATCHER was kicked by another runner and required emergency medical attention. As a consequence JUST WATCHER became fractious, reared up and flipped over backwards landing heavily on its back and striking its head on the ground. In these circumstances JUST WATCHER was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 2:00pm AR8(u). As a result of this extended delay horses were returned to the race day tie up stalls awaiting a replacement ambulance.

The start of this event was further delayed when CHARMING ALLY (W O’Connell), after being loaded into the barriers, broke through the front gates and cantered for a short distance. On return to the barriers a subsequent vet examination cleared the mare fit to start.

The event was again delayed when MAJOR BLOT, CHARMING ALLY and DANCIN MICK were all unable to be loaded into the barriers and as a result these 3 runners were declared late scratchings at 2:31pm on starters advice. Due to the considerable delay involving medical attention to the injured strapper and the delay resulting from CHARMINMG ALLY breaking through the barriers, stewards advised trainers Ms N King (DANCIN MICK), J Hearne (CHARMING ALLY) and P Moncrieff (MAJOR BLOT) warnings would be placed on their respective runners regarding their barrier manners.

As result of the four late scratchings stewards ordered the following deductions to apply:

Bets placed prior to the late scratching of JUST WATCHER at 2:00pm to be paid less 29 cents face value of win tickets and less 33 cents face value of place tickets. Bets placed between 2:00pm and prior to the late scratching of MAJOR BLOT, CHARMING ALLY and DANCIN MICK at 2:31pm to be paid less 22 cents face value win tickets and 25 cents face value place tickets.

.

A short distance after the start DR HOUSE (J Hoopert) shifted in and bumped JEWEL OF CASHEL (I Coombes). TAILAKE (C Kearney) which was following was obliged to steady away from the heels of JEWL OF CASHEL as a consequence.

COME ON LU LU (A Taylor) and DR HOUSE raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the below market performance of WOMEN BE SHOPPING, rider R Goltz stated the filly travelled well in the run but failed to run over the concluding stages and in his opinion was disappointing.

At scale A Taylor, rider of COME ON LU LU, reported the mare became unbalanced and lost momentum rounding the home-turn.

Race 3: QTIS MAIDEN HDCP - 1200m

The start of this event was put back 10 minutes due to the delays which occurred in Race 2.

GENERAL ASCOT (app I French) reared as the gates opened and lost ground.

FLYING HUGO (app B Derbyshire) and FIREBIRD (app T Brooker) were both slow to begin.

STORM CRAZY (app B Stower) and ALAZANI (R Goltz) came together on jumping.

Near the 800 metres FIREBIRD shifted out to improve and bumped FLYING HUGO.

GENERAL ASCOT raced wide throughout the event.

App I French, rider of GENERAL ASCOT was reprimanded under AR 137A (4)(c)for his use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

Race 4: CLASS 2 HDCP - 1200m

DOUBLE TOP (N Evans) was slow to begin.

From the 500 metres until rounding the home-turn MISS MOOKYCHICK (app T Brooker) was held up for clear running behind KARZING (J Hoopert).

TORNAZAKY (app L Tilley) raced wide for the majority of the event.

App L Tilley, rider of TORNAZAKY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR 137 (a) in that near the 150 metres he permitted his mount to shift inwards under pressure resulting in MISS MOOKYCHICK being taken in and tightening the running of both KARZING and EDGE OF LOVE (R Goltz) which both had to be checked. The riding licence of app Tilley was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 8th December up to and including midnight 18th December 2013. In assessing penalty stewards took into account mitigating circumstances in this incident and also Apprentice Tilley’s recent record in respect to this rule.

Race 5: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP - 1600m

Approaching the first turn at the 1300 metres, KING OF JACKS (app J Orman) improved up onto the heels CHASTELAIN (app M O Brien) and had to be staedied.

A short distance later, KING OF JACKS, which was over-racing, shifted wider on the track and improved to a position outside the leader near the 800 metres.

ABSOULIE ( M Crawford) raced wide for the majority of the event.
