As app. R Cox was unable to claim his full allowance, he was replaced as the rider of MERRY PIERCE and SADDILERS CROSSING as per the Stewards Summary. Due to no other rider being available Stewards permitted App. Cox to ride FINE FINISH and NASHAMA when unable to claim his full allowance. At a subsequent enquiry App. Cox pleaded guilty to a charge for accepting 4 rides when unable to claim his full allowance. App. Cox was fined $400.

CRAIGLEA CYCLONE (R Faehr) was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 1:48pm after the filly dislodged its rider during the preliminary and escaped from the racecourse grounds. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CRAIGLEA CYCLONE be refunded with deductions of 13 cents the win and 12 cents the place to apply on all successful win and place bets. Stewards advised Trainer B Johnson that CRAIGLEA CYCLONE would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to next racing.
TARMONS (J Kehoe) which began very awkwardly, shifted out tightening the running of RUNWAY MISS (B Richardson), HEAD ON IT (D Brown) and BAT MOBILE (A Smith).
SHE’S HEADING WEST (D Rewald) was slow into stride.

MOXIE MILLION (C Schumacher) jumped in the air at the start.
Stewards questioned trainer S Iverson in relation to the performance of FINE FINISH (R Cox) which performed below market expectations. Mr Iverson stated that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle the tight turning track which was compounded by being forced to race wide throughout. Mr Iverson further advised that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited in races over a further distance then today’s event. Stewards noted Mr Iverson’s explanation.
