Race 1: JO FORSTER MELBOURNE CUP ART SHOW QTIS MAIDEN PLATE. 1000 Metres. ( 9 Starters).
1st – JOYFUL 2nd - AFTER FIVE 3rd – TEMPTING OFFER 4th – YACKI
COGNAC DIAMOND was scratched with Stewards permission as no rider was available.
D. Ballard was a late riding engagement for TYCOON MADAME and Stewards allowed D. Ballard to ride that mare two (2) kilograms overweight, as no other rider was available.
ELLAINAH (T. Brummell) reared whilst waiting to be loaded causing the rider to slip harmlessly from the saddle.
At the start BRUCE IN THE SUIT (Apprentice J. Kuskopf) jumped in the air and shifted inwards onto TEMPTING OFFER (S. Mossman).
FUNHOUSE (R. Sue-San) raced wide all the way.
TYCOON MADAME (D. Ballard) raced wide rounding the 600 metre turn.
YACKI (A. Spradau) raced wide rounding the home turn.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey K. Ballard, the rider of AFTER FIVE which had been placed third by the Judge, advised Stewards that he wished to lodge an objection against the second placed horse TEMPTING OFFER (S. Mossman) on the grounds of interference from the 400 metres. After taking evidence from the relevant parties, viewing the patrol footage and taking into account the Stewards’ observations Stewards upheld the protest and reversed the Judge’s placings to read, JOYFUL first, AFTER FIVE second and TEMPTING OFFER third and correct weight was declared on those amended placings.
At a subsequent Steward’s Inquiry into the incident , Jockey S. Mossman pleaded Guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR 137(a)) and was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by Two (2) North Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight 6th October 2012 such suspension to expire at midnight on 13th October, 2012.
Race 2: MYUNA CLASS B HANDICAP. 1000 Metres. (9 Starters).
1st - BAROQUE STAR 2nd - FIRST BASE 3rd - DELAY 4th – SHIPIN (NZ)
A Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to race was produced in respect of SHIPIN (NZ).
HOLCOMB was scratched by Order of Stewards at 1pm because no rider was available.
At the start TERRAPLEX (S. Mossman) jumped inwards onto BAROQUE STAR (M. Cullen) which was slowly away.
EXOTIC BOTY (T. Hill) and ARGOLIS (Apprentice J. Kuskopf) raced wide rounding the turns at the 600 metres and the home turn.
FIRST BASE (D. Ballard) raced wide rounding the home turn.
Jockey S. MOSSMAN, the rider of TERRAPLEX which had been well supported in the betting and finished a distant sixth, was interviewed regarding the gelding’s performance. Jockey MOSSMAN advised that the gelding had not raced for a month and that the gelding was being trained for races longer than today’s event. Jockey Mossman added that today’s race was too short as the gelding has lost its early pace. . Explanation noted.
Race 3: GRACEDALE CLASS 2 HANDICAP. 1400 Metres. (7 Starters).
1st - BROKE BUT LUCKY 2nd - MASTER OF REALITY 3rd - WAYNE 4th – JESTER’S DELIGHT
JESTERS DELIGHT (M. Cullen) was slowly away.
BASALTIC BANNE (Apprentice J. Kuskopf) knuckled on jumping.
WAYNE (T. Hill) jumped inwards onto BASALTIC BANNE.
JESTERS DELIGHT and SHADOW ALLIANCE (R. Sue-San) both made the home turn wide.
Prior to correct weight Apprentice J. Kuskopf, the rider of the fifth place getter BASALTIC BANNE, requested to view the photo finish print for the minor placings. After doing so App. Kuskopf was satisfied with the judge’s placings and correct was declared on the numbers semaphored
Race 4: SARA VUORI WEB N MORE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP. 1100 Metres. ( 5 Starters).
1st - GATO 2nd - BELFORD BOY 3rd - FILOU SHOT 4th – SIR JAYSTIN
Prior to this race, Jockey M. Cullen advised Stewards that he was feeling unwell due to heat exhaustion and on being examined by the on-course Q.A.,S., OIfficer, Jockey Cullen was advised to stand down for the remaining two races. Jockey M. Cullen was advised to produce a medical certificate of fitness before riding again). Jockey T. Hill then replaced M. Cullen as the rider of GALAXY GOLD.
On weighing out Jockey A. Spradau was unable to make the allocated weight and was replaced by K. Ballard as the rider of FILOU SHOT.
GALAXY GOLD (T. Hill) reared as the gates opened and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr. G. WIULES advised that GALAXY GOLD lost both front plates during running. .
Race 5: 27th OCTOBER MOON FESTIVAL OPEN HANDICAP . 1200 Metres. ( 4 Starters).
1st - ANCONI 2nd - MONTANUS 3rd - CASTELLANI 4th – MAJESTIC LION
STEWARDS interviewed Mr. B. Johnson, the trainer of FILOU SHOT, which was a dual acceptor today for races four and five. Each of those races had low numbers of acceptors and FILOU SHOT was scratched from this race prior to scratching time, leaving four starters. After stewards heard Mr Johnson’s explanation, he was given the benefit of a grave doubt. The provisions of AR 68(2) and LR 38) were re-enforced to him and he was advised that those provisions will be strictly enforced in similar circumstances in the future.
Jockey A. Spradau advised that he was unable to make the weight to ride ANCONI and he was replaced by Jockey D. BALLARD. Subsequently, Jockey Spradau pleaded Guilty to two (2) charges under AR 120(b) of Accepting Rides When Not Being Able to Make the Allocated Weight, (1) in Race 4 on FILOU SHOT and (2) in Race 5 on ANCONI. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey SPRADAU’S frequent recent breaches of this rule and substantial fines imposed and Jockey Spradau was suspended from riding in races from midnight on 6 th October, 2012 up to and including midnight on 5th November, 2012.
