STEWARDS REPORT – SATURDAY 13TH JANUARY, 2001
STEWARDS: J. BOON (CHAIRMAN), K. BEAN, G. MEEK, N. VAGG (CADET), L. FRASER (BET)
WEATHER: FINE TRACK: FAST
GENERAL

RACING:
RACE 1 MAIDEN HCP. 1000 METRES - (11 STARTERS) Prior to the start ALL JAKE (D. Whitmore) was fractious.
As the gates opened CORSAIR (P. Wheeler) was slow to begin.
OUR ENDEAVOUR (B. Appo) dwelt slightly, resulting in that gelding losing ground.
Approaching the 750 metre mark PANGKARRA BELLE (G. Booth) commenced to hang until straightening. Mr. Bill Ibbotson the trainer of PANGKARRA BELLE, was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly due to its racing manners.
Approaching the 650 metre mark SPECIAL SLOT (J. Felix) made the turn awkwardly.
Stewards questioned M. Barnham rider of MILLNEM BUD, with regards to the racing manners of that gelding. M. Barnham stated that he felt the gelding raced awkwardly in the middle stages of the race and upon turning for home and being passed by OUR ENDEAVOUR that the gelding was inclined to shift out quickly. Upon consultation with trainer Warren Hancock stewards advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

RACE 2 CLASS 2 HCP. 1000 METRES - (13 STARTERS) D. Evans replaced D. Lloyd as the rider of PHYLLIS JAY as D. Lloyd reported indisposed and no other suitable rider could be found. Stewards advised D. Lloyd that he would be required to present a doctors certificate before riding again.
NO CHELONA became fractious in the barriers and was subsequently inspected by the club vet. Whilst the club vet deemed the gelding fit to start an inspection of the saddle revealed in an unsuitable standard to race with, therefore NO CHELONA was withdrawn by the order of stewards at 1.59pm. All monies invested on NO CHELONA were ordered to be refunded. Stewards ordered deductions of 4c a win and 5c a place on all winning tickets.
Shortly after the start UNISHAK (W. Welburn) knuckled over, dislodging its rider W. Welburn.
STAR ELMA (N. Evans) was slow to begin.
HULA HAVEN (M. Unwin) was slow to begin.
PIPSLOT (E Heinemann) raced wide upon entering the straight.
Approaching the 500 metres THERESA’S DELIGHT (D. Whitmore) made contact with the running rail.

RACE 3 CLASS 5 HCP. 1000 METRES - (7 STARTERS) EL CARGO was declared a late scratching at 1.32pm by stewards after they had received an explanation from trainer K. Smyth regarding that gelding being sore in the front. Mr. Smyth was further advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required prior to EL CARGO racing again.
RISING POWER (N. Evans) jumped inwards at the start and made contact with MICHAEL’S MATE (D. Evans).
Approaching the 650 metres MICHAEL’S MATE was placed in restricted room between the fence and SIR LOUIS (L. Timson).
Approaching the 150 metres STORMY CIRCLES (G. Evans) had to be steadied momentarily when crowded by ALIAS (D. Whitmore) which shifted in under pressure. D. Whitmore rider of ALIAS was advised by stewards to exercise more care when placed in similar situations.

RACE 4 SPECIAL CONDITIONS HCP 1800 METRES - (5 STARTERS) At the start IMPERIAL ORDER jumped away slowly.
In the early and middle stages IMPERIAL ORDER raced fiercely.

RACE 5 CLASS 3 HCP. 1800 METRES - (8 STARTERS) At the start BENELITE (L. Timson) and LLOYD’S SECRET (D. Whitemore) bumped.
SEATTLE ARRIVAL (C. Beets) jumped inwards brushing HIGH POWERED (P. Wheeler).
Prior to correct weight D. Johnston rider of DR. SUN requested to view the stewards patrol films. On perusal of the films D. Johnston declined to lodge an objection. Correct weight was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the judge.
DR. SUN failed to obtain clear running until the concluding stages.

RACE 6 CLASS 1 HCP 1300 METRES - (14 STARTERS) Prior to jumping MR. PROSPECTUS (NZ) (J. Piper) was fractious.
NOBLE OPTIONS (M. Barnham) was slow to begin.
OCTOBER BLAZE (B. Appo) jumped awkwardly resulting in that filly being slow into stride.
Approaching the 800 metres RANTIGGER (L. Timson) made contact with the running rail.
In the middle stages of the race CRISOMALOUSA (NZ) (D. Whitmore) raced ungenerously.

BOOKMAKERS: 5 Bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
