GENERAL

Stewards today conducted an inquiry into an incident that allegedly occurred in the Rockhampton Jockey Club jockeys room following the fifth event on the programme on Friday 29th December, 2000.
After taking evidence from jockeys W. Tomsett, W. Welburn, S. Quick, M. Unwin and apprentice N. Evans, the matter was adjourned to enable stewards to interview G. Booth, who failed to attend the inquiry.

RACING:
RACE 1 SPECIAL CONDITIONS HCP.1300 METRES - (7 STARTERS) CLAYTON'S DAY was slow to begin.
BURRADOO PRINCE jumped away awkwardly.
Inside the 1200m BOURSIER (M. Unwin) shifted in and momentarily crowded BURRADOO PRINCE (R. Mules).
RANCHO RED was inclined to over race in the early and middle stages of the race.
Wally Welburn the rider of RANCHO RED was reprimanded for using an excessive amount of whip in the straight, when in the opinion of the stewards, his mount was out of contention.

RACE 2 CLASS 3 HCP DIV 1. 1200 METRES - (9 STARTERS) STAR ELMA was slow to begin.
BEREYLA jumped out at the start and made contact with EXTRINSIC.
Inside the 650 metres ROYAL TURNON became unbalanced after shifting out and making contact with HUZZA.
Inside the 500 metres HUZZA (B. Appo) shifted in and as a result tightened ROYAL TURNON (D. Johnston) onto the running rail. Stewards initially issued a charge of careless riding against B. Appo in relation to this incident and after pleaded not guilty he satisfied the panel that he had made a concerted effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground. The stewards did not proceed with the charge and no further action was taken.
CRYSTAL'S BOY was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the straight.
Following the event trainer R. Wilson reported that EXTRINSIC was showing signs of lameness in the near hind leg.

RACE 3 CLASS 3 HCP DIV 2. 1200 METRES - (8 STARTERS) Trainer Mr. D. Crouch was fined the sum of $50 for failing to present the document of description for STOLLIKKNAYA.
AMEDEO was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800 metres PRINCESS DORRIE (P. Moodie) was obliged to steady off the heels of PLUSH LOVER (S. Quick) which momentarily lost ground after racing up onto the heels of NAWAY (J. Stephens).
R. Mules the rider of AMEDEO was reprimanded for using an excessive amount of whip in the straight, when in the opinion of the stewards, his mount was out of contention.

RACE 4 3YO MAIDEN HCP 1200 METRES - (9 STARTERS) DANEDINI was ordered a late scratching at 1.56pm when trainer R. Mannion could not satisfy stewards that the ownership of the gelding was in order. R. Mannion was advised that DANEDINI was barred from racing under AR50 until the current lease is cancelled.
HULA BRIGHTEN which dislodged its rider K. Pope behind the barriers and completed a lap of the course was declared a late scratching at 2.23pm. Stewards ordered all bets to be refunded and successful wages placed prior to 1.56pm was subject to the deductions of 13c the win and 15c the place and further winning bets placed prior to 2.23pm were subject to the deductions of 5c for a win and 6c for a place.
The start time of this race was delayed whilst officials attempted to recapture HULA BRIGHTEN.
PATIENCE CREEK was slow to begin.
FLOW reared as the gates opened and was inclined to race ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
Inside the 800 metres BROTHER TAZ (R. Mules) shifted in and momentarily crowded PATIENCE CREEK (B. Appo) onto the running rail.

RACE 5 CLASS 1 HCP DIV 1. 1100 METRES - (8 STARTERS) OUR ENDEAVOUR was declared a late scratching at 12.03pm on veterinary advice.
ESPIRE was declared a late scratching at 1.47pm on veterinary advice after it was revealed that the gelding was lame in the near fore leg..
STRONG EMOTION was declared a late scratching at 3pm after that gelding eluded its handler in the saddling enclosure and after galloping for some distance on the course proper broke through the outside running rail. The start time of this event was delayed for some time whilst officials attempted to recapture STRONG EMOTION. Stewards ordered deductions of 42c in the win and 24c in the place for all successful bets placed prior to 3pm.
MAHOGANY JET jumped out at the start and made contact with FOX AMBER.
OOPSCAY was slow to begin.
Approaching the first turn MAHOGANY JET (M. Allen) and MISREAL (M. Unwin) came together on two occasions.
Approaching the 450 metres CHESS PIECE (K. Pope) lost ground after shifting in and striking the running rail. MONOCLE (D. Evans) which was following had to be steadied to avoid that runners heels.
Inside the 100 metres FOX AMBER (J. Stephens) was inclined to lay in under pressure.

RACE 6 CLASS 1 HCP DIV 2. 1100 METRES - (11 STARTERS) Due to the lengthy delays prior to the start of the two previous events the start time of this race was put back to 3.40pm.
ACE DARLING was slow to begin.
MIGHTY LAD was fractious in the barriers and jumped away awkwardly.
APPREHENDED raced wide in the middle stages.
Inside the 500 metre CIVIC RIVALRY (K. Pope) shifted in and struck the running rail and as a result SECRET WATCH (J. Stephens) which was following, shifted out to avoid that runners heels and in doing so tightened NO CHELONA (J. Piper) onto MIGHTY LAD (W. Welburn).
RED RECLUSE (D. Johnston) which was following was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of NO CHELONA.
ALL BLACK ANGEL suffered a bleeding attack in this event. As this was the first time the mare had suffered such an attack trainer M. Lakey was advised of the provisions of AR53B.

RACE 7 CLASS 5 HCP. 1100 METRES - (12 STARTERS) The start time of this event was put back to 4.13pm.
RISING POWER was declared a late scratching at 1.47pm acting on veterinary advice.
HEROIC BOY was momentarily crowded at the start between GIBRALTER REIGNS and EL CARGO which jumped out.
Approaching the 800 metres ROCKET DANCER (J. Piper) shifted out and made contact with MIGHTY SPLENDENT (W. Welburn).

RACE 8 CLASS 1 HCP. 1400 METRES - (13 STARTERS) Shortly after the start OUR STAR REGARD shifted in and made contact with STRADDIE BOWLING.
D. Simmons the rider of TAHJAY was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PAPER DOLL (D. Whitmore) taking that runner in onto HIGH POWERED (S. Quick) which in turn blundered after striking the heels of MALDWAY (B. Appo), which at the time was racing fiercely when being restrained off the heels of OUR STAR REGARD (R. Mules). STRADDIE BOWLING (C. Beets) which was following was also hampered as a result.
D. Simmons licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 CRA meetings to commence immediately and expire after the 10/02/01.

BOOKMAKERS: 4 bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
