Apprentice C. Spry the rider of ROCKEASY was reprimanded for failing to weigh in as the fifth place getter.

RACE 3 MAIDEN HCP 1100 METRES (12 STARTERS) As Ms C Johnston was indisposed through injury she was replaced as the rider of ABU by W. Tomsett.
MILLNEM BUD was declared a late scratching at 1.02pm after its rider D. Simmons sustained an injury to the foot whilst waiting for the gelding to be resaddle behind the barriers. Stewards ordered all bets on MILLNEM BUD to be refunded with deductions of 3c a win and 4c a place on all successful wagers placed prior to the 1.02pm scratching time. Subsequently stewards interviewed Mr. W. Hancock trainer of MILLNEM BUD, and were satisfied that he had presented the gelding to the enclosure properly saddled.
As Miss C. Johnston was indisposed through injury she was replaced as the rider of ABU by W. Tomsett.
Trainer K. Lynch was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for ABU which proved extremely difficult to load into the barriers.
KING’S CREW was slow to begin.
Inside the 300 metres ABU (W. Tomsett) which had been held up for a clear run behind the heels of WOULDN’T CREDIT IT (NZ) (M. Unwin) shifted in and as a result made contact with the running rail.
Over the concluding stages ABU was placed in restricted room when attempting to obtain clear running to the inside of OUR ENDEAVOUR (J. Walk).

RACE 4 3YO CLASS 4 HCP. 1100 METRES (8 STARTERS) ROYAL JEST was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the riding of TAMBO ROAD in the early and middle stages of this event, W. Welburn stated that after beginning well he restrained his mount back to settle in a rearward position as instructed. He further stated that after settling back his mount commenced to race fiercely rounding the 800 metre turn and for some distance he was then obliged to steady off the heels of BRACE SLOT. Stewards noted these explanations.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SARANEE, jockey J. Walk stated his mount had travelled comfortably to a forward position in the early stages but in his opinion commenced to compound when placed under pressure rounding the home turn.
A post race vet examination revealed that the filly was showing signs of a slow recovery and trainer Mr. A. Jenkinson advised stewards that he intended to spell SARANEE.

RACE 5 CLASS 6 HCP. 1100 METRES (8 STARTERS) PASSION POWER was crowded for room shortly after the start between HEROIC BOY which shifted out and RYDER which was taken in by SUMO. SUMO then shifted out to relieve this pressure and as a result momentarily crowded TOWN HALL (NZ) onto GANCIA SOVEREIGN.
For some distance approaching the 300 metres PISTOL STAR (D. Johnston) was held up for clear running behind the heels of RISING POWER (S. Quick).
PISTOL STAR was again unable to obtain clear running inside the 250 metres between RISING POWER and PASSION POWER (S. Galloway). At the same stage RYDER (A. Williams) shifted in under pressure and made contact with PASSION POWER which as a result was momentarily held up for a clear run behind the heels of HEROIC BOY (B. Appo). When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TOWN HALL (NZ) jockey R. Mules stated that his mount failed to respond despite being ridden along in the early and middle stages of the event, but the gelding did run on when placed under pressure in the home straight. These explanations were noted and a post race vet examination revealed TOWN HALL (NZ) to be mildly sore in the off fore fetlock.

RACE 6 CLASS 4 1100 METRES (10 STARTERS) BRONZE ARGUS and STELLA CLASSIC came together at the start.
Approaching the 800 metre KORUPSII (N. Evans) which was racing fiercely had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PALACE GRANT (S. Galloway).
PRIDE OF BANMORE (S. Quick) which was following KORUPSII, was also obliged to steady and shift out to avoid the heels of that runner.
MIGHTY SPLENDENT (C. Beets) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event.

RACE 7 CLASS 2 HCP. 1200 METRES (8 STARTERS) C’MON LARI broke through the barriers prior to the start was quickly restrained and returned to the start to take its place in the field.
Upon return to scale a protest was lodged by W. Welburn rider of the third place getter BATU against the winner MONOCLE ridden by N. Evans alleging interference at the 800 metre mark. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol film it was established that approaching the 800 metres MONOCLE did shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in BATU having to be steadied by its rider. Stewards were not satisfied that the interference warranted a reversal of placing and therefore the protest was dismissed.
At a subsequent inquiry apprentice N. Evans was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
Over the concluding stages C’MON LARI was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure.

RACE 8 CLASS 1 HCP. 1600 METRES (13 STARTERS) KEELAWEE ROAD knuckled over as the gates opened and lost considerable ground.
Shortly after the start SHEER EDGE shifted out and made contact with OCEANIA ROSE.
NIMAGIRRA (W. Tomsett) and CORRIB LEA (NZ) (W. Welburn) both raced fiercely in the early stages.
Approaching the 1000 metres OCEANIA ROSE (J. Stephens) had to be checked off the heels of SHEER EDGE (N. Evans) which hung in despite the efforts of its rider. As a result of this interference OCEANIA ROSE then shifted out and as a result crowded SPYING MISS onto KULA SHAKER.
ON TERMS (D. Whitmore) which was following was also obliged to steady off the heels of SPYING MISS.
Approaching the 650 metre SHEER EDGE again hung in despite the efforts of its rider and as a result OCEANIA ROSE was again tightened in onto the running rail. CORRIB LEA (NZ) which was following had to be steadied off the heels of OCEANIA ROSE. As a result of this tightening OCEANIA ROSE struck the running rail and shifted out abruptly and forced KULA SHAKER (C. Beets) across the heels of ON TERMS (D. Whitmore). As a consequence KULA SHAKER blundered after striking the heels of ON TERMS.
R. Mules the rider of DAPPER JOEL accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 400 metres.

Evans the rider of IN THE GUN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137a in that approaching the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of OUR STAR REGARD which in turn severely crowded MARKET WALK (NZ) (D. Johnston) and ANTS (B. Appo) onto JET SET (D. Whitmore) which had to be severely checked by its rider. CRYSTAL’S BOY (J. Walk) which was following also had to be severely checked off the heels of JET SET. G. Evans licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 Capricornia Racing Association meetings to commence immediately and to expire after the 13/3/01. In arriving at this penalty stewards took into account the severity of the interference.
Approaching the 650 metres FIESAL (M. Unwin) had to be checked by its rider after being tightened for room by CRYSTAL’S BOY which shifted in slightly when being steadied off the heels of AIRLINE (S. Galloway).
Approaching the 300 metres AIRLINE shifted out under pressure and momentarily hampered BEREYLA.
Inside the 200 metres OUR STAR REGARD (R. Mules) shifted in and away from CENTRO ROBBER (NZ) (D. Lloyd) and as a result made contact with MARKET WALK (NZ) (D. Johnston).
ANTS was unable to obtain clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200 metres.
