WESTERN BRACE and SEA WALKING were tightened for room at the start between PEGUNNY HARVEST and SAILING DAN which jumped out.
WESTERN BRACE (J. Walk) commenced to race ungenerously in the early stages and approaching the first turn shifted out and momentarily hampered SEA WALKING (D. Johnston).
Approaching the 900 metres ROCKEASY (J. Stephens) shifted in and made contact with ANAKITA (P. Moodie).
WESTERN BRACE continued to race fiercely and approaching the 600 metres shifted out to avoid the heels of SAILING DAN (W. Tomsett) and as a result forced RUSTY REGAL (P. Wheeler) and HULA PO (D. Whitmore) wider on the track.
Approaching the 500 metres ROCKEASY shifted in and crowded PEGUNNY HARVEST (B. Appo) onto HULA PO (D. Whitmore). J. Stephens was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 200 metres SAILING DAN and SEA WALKING were both momentarily held up for clear running. Trainer Miss S. Lawlor was advised that a warning would be placed on JETAWONG after the gelding proved difficult to load.
RACE 2 SUPER QRIS 2YO MAIDEN HCP. 1100 METRES (2nd Div) (13 STARTERS) BUSTLER and FINAL JET came together at the start.
BUSTLER (P. Moodie) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the early stages of the straight and as a result inside the 300 metres made contact with EYE CATCHING (D. Johnston). Trainer Mrs C. Dore was advised that a warning would be placed on BRAVE CHARIOT after the filly proved difficult to load.
RACE 3 CLASS 6 HCP 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS) On a number of occasions inside the 600 metres TRISTRAM’S SHOW (J. Stephens) shifted in of its own accord and struck the running rail.
RACE 4 OPEN HCP. 1000 METRES (7 STARTERS) No racing incidents to report.
RACE 5 CLASS 4 HCP. 1800 METRES (8 STARTERS) When questioned regarding her riding tactics on JET SET, apprentice L. Timson stated that due to the lack of pace in the race she found herself caught wide in the early and middle stages. She further stated that her mount commenced to race fiercely when she attempted to settle back into a position closer to the fence, as she had been instructed not to lead on the gelding. Stewards noted these explanations.
For some distance inside the 300 metres DAPPER JOEL was unable to obtain clear running and as a result made contact with the running rail when attempting a run to the inside of ROWLEY (D. Whitmore).
RACE 6 MAIDEN 1300 METRES (11 STARTERS) P. Moodie the rider of ROCKY NED pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137a in that approaching the 250 metres he permitted his mount to shift out under pressure when insufficiently clear causing ZORICA (NZ) to be checked by its rider K. Pope and as a result it shifted out causing MILLNEM BUD to be steadied by its rider J. Walk.
P. Moodie’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 Capricornia Racing Association meetings to commence immediately and expire after the 24/3/01.
A post race vet examination of LAMBADA QUEEN (NZ) failed to reveal any abnormality.
