STEWARDS REPORT – SATURDAY 12th MAY, 2001
STEWARDS: D. HENSLER (CHAIRMAN), D. DELFORCE, G. WUST, S. WALSH (BETTING), N. VAGG (CADET)
WEATHER: FINE. TRACK: GOOD
RACING:
RACE 1 CLASS 3 HCP. 1800 METRES (5 STARTERS) No racing incidents to report.
RACE 2 CLASS 6 HCP. 1800 METRES (7 STARTERS) LONG LONG ROAD and JET SET came together at the start.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LONG LONG ROAD jockey T. Williams stated that he had allowed the gelding to settle back in the field in the early and middle stages as is consistent with the horses usual racing pattern. He stated that when placed under pressure to go forward inside the 700 metres LONG LONG ROAD failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion felt flat in its action. Trevor Williams further stated that after shifting around runners to obtain a clear run in the straight he was momentarily held up approaching the 200 metres when FIESAL (M. Unwin) shifted out and after this point the gelding compounded over the concluding stages. A post race vet examination of LONG LONG ROAD revealed the gelding to be suffering from a possible infection in the near side lung and also showing the effects of severe dehydration. Trainer D. Powell advised stewards that it was his intention to order a blood test for LONG LONG ROAD and depending on those results it was his intention to spell the gelding immediately.
RACE 3 MAIDEN HCP 1300 METRES (10 STARTERS) KAVAMP which lashed out and struck the outside fence in its preliminary was examined by the clubs vet and passed fit to start.
Trainer A. Jenkinson's stable representative was advised ACOBAMBA would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate after that gelding proved extremely difficult to load.
BRAQUER LAD (W. Welburn) shifted out shortly after the start and hampered TOFU (P. Wheeler).
TEXAS RANCHER, when ridden with the whip in the left hand, was inclined to shift in in the straight and as a result inside the 200 metres its rider J. Lait was obliged to change his whip over to the right hand.
RACE 4 CLASS 4 HCP. 1300 METRES (10 STARTERS). Upon return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice D. Evans rider of the second place getter MONOCLE against the winner BEREYLA ridden by P. Moodie alleging interference over the concluding 300 metres.
After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol films it was established that inside the 250 metres BEREYLA commenced to shift in under pressure and as a result made contact and impeded the run of MONOCLE. Approaching the 150 metres P. Moodie stopped riding BEREYLA and attempted to straighten his mount but over the concluding stages it continued to shift in when placed under pressure. Stewards were not satisfied that the interference suffered by MONOCLE in this incident warranted a reversal of placings and the protest was dismissed.
At a subsequent inquiry P. Moodie was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in future.
RACE 5 CLASS 2 HCP. 1000 METRES (7 STARTERS). No racing incidents to report.
P. Wheeler the rider of ACE DARLING was fined the sum of $50 for failing to weigh in as the fifth place getter.
RACE 6 OPEN HCP 1000 METRES (9 STARTERS) Trainer N. Perry was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for NOT TOO VAIN which delayed the start by proving difficult to load.
DIVIOT (M. Allen) shifted out abruptly over the concluding stages and close to the winning post made contact with REGAL REGARD (D. Johnston).
RACE 7 OPEN W.F.A 1600 METRES (4 STARTERS) The start of this event due to a malfunction of the barriers.
No racing incidents to report.
