STEWARDS REPORT – FRIDAY 8TH JUNE, 2001
STEWARDS: D. HENSLER (CHAIRMAN), J. BOON, N. FOX, G. MEEK, N. VAGG (CADET/BET)

GENERAL
An inquiry was today conducted into a report from deputy steward Gary Meek into an incident that had occurred at the Monto race meeting conducted on June 2, 2001 involving registered stable hand, Mr. Brian Dixon.

At this inquiry evidence was taken from Mr. Dixon and deputy stewards Gary Meek and Gary Wust.

Mr. Dixon was found to be in breach of AR175A in that he was found guilty of conduct prejudicial to the image of racing. The specifics being that at the above mentioned meeting he did, as the registered foreman for the Sharon Simpkins trained BLUE MARLOO go to the start of race 2 and assist with the loading and handling of the said horse into the barriers without the express permission of the stewards. Mr. Dixon was fined the sum of $400.

Subsequent to the last meeting held at Rockhampton on 2.6.01 trainer A McMahon reported that BARN DANCE which competed in the race 2 the Class 4 Hcp had required chiropractic treatment to a back injury following the event.

RACING:
RACE 1 MAIDEN HCP. 1200 METRES (9 STARTERS).The start time of this event was delayed due to a communication problem.
SIR HUNDRED PIPERS jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 800 metres BOTTLE NOSE (N. Jolly) threw its head in the air when being restrained off the heels of BRAQUER LAD (D. Simmons).
Inside the 300 metres BOTTLE NOSE was obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.

RACE 2 FILLIES & MARES CLASS 4 HCP. 1100 METRES (8 STARTERS) SPIRITED GIRL was declared a late scratching at 1.13pm after the mare became extremely fractious in the barriers and as a result broke through the front gates.
Stewards ordered deductions of 3c for a win and 4c for a place on all successful wages placed prior to the 1.13pm scratching time. Mr. Fred Smith trainer of SPIRITED GIRL, was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for SPIRITED GIRL prior to that mares next start.
MY SWEET DARLING was slow to begin.
Approaching the 600 metres ROYAL TURNON (B. Appo) raced up onto and had to steadied off the heels of SARANEE.

RACE 3 CLASS 6 HCP 1100 METRES (11 STARTERS) NIGHT TRAIN was slow to begin.
EARLY SUPER reared as the gates opened and lost ground as a result.
SAJANA MISS (S. Quick) raced wide in the early and middle stages and approaching the 600 metres shifted out forcing TRAVELLIN’ MAN (D. Johnston) wider on the track. SAJANA MISS again ran wide rounding the home turn.

RACE 4 CLASS 2 HCP. 1200 METRES (14 STARTERS). HULA HAVEN suffered a bleeding attack in this event. Trainer R. Staffords representative Mr. D. O’Leary was advised that HULA HAVEN was barred from racing for a period of 3 months under the provisions of AR53b.
CHIEF DAHAR jumped away awkwardly.
ALLIE BOB jumped out at the start and made contact with HULA HAVEN.
Approaching the 500 metres CHIEF DAHAR (A. Lane) had to be steadied off the heels of FROTHY TOP (MJ Stephens) which in turn was steadied off the heels of BAY BEAUTY (D. Lloyd) after that runner became momentarily unbalanced when racing in restricted room to the inside of BAA HA (A. Cowie).

RACE 5 OPEN HCP. 1200 METRES (15 STARTERS). REGAL REGARD jumped inwards at the start and crowded WHITSUNDAY VIEW onto SPY KING.
KING MIDAS, SPACE PRINCE and RIVER AFFAIR were all tightened for room shortly after the start between EBONY BOY and DIVIOT (M. Smith-Lester) which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
KWILA LAD (J. Piper) was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 200 metres PRINCESS NEDIYM (G. Evans) had to steady off the heels of REGAL REGARD (K. Pope) when unable to obtain clear running between that runner and SPY KING (N. Jolly).
Inside the 100 metres PRINCESS NEDIYM was obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.

RACE 6 OPEN HCP 1900 METRES (9 STARTERS) As W. Tomsett was indisposed through injury M. Unwin replaced him as the rider of PHAROS’ RULER.
SUPERSTEAM was slow to begin.
A post race vet examination of TOBOLSK revealed that gelding to have sustained minor abrasions on three legs consistent with striking itself in running.

RACE 7 CLASS 6 HCP 1400 METRES (9 STARTERS) BEREYLA jumped away awkwardly.
BLUE POET jumped in at the start and crowded BRIAR’S ARMY onto DANEGOLD.
A post race vet examination of BLUE POET revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg.
B. Appo the rider of KRONA WALK (NZ) was fined the sum of $50 for failing to weigh in for fourth place getter.

RACE 8 CLASS 1 HCP 1500 METRES (9 STARTERS) ALGASKAY was declared a late scratching at 7.55am. Trainer J. Goodwin was fined the sum of $50 for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time.
ON TERMS was declared a late scratching veterinary advice at 4.32pm. Stewards ordered deductions of 7c for a win and 8c for a placed on all successful wagers placed prior to the 4.32pm scratching time.
Trainer Mr. C. Lisle was fined the sum of $25 for presenting BLUEY AND CURLY to the enclosure without blinkers.
Inside the 450 metres ROYAL JEST (P. Wheeler) shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip.
BLUEY AND CURLY (W. Welburn) blundered at the 400 metres and as a result commenced to compound in the straight.
Approaching the 200 metres KRISCHENVEEARI (G. Evans) and GEORDINA (M. Smith-Lester) came to together under pressure.
Leaving this point HANNISH (J. Piper) commenced to shift out under pressure and as a result crowded KRISCHENVEEARI onto GEORDINA. J. Piper was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
A post race vet examination of GEORDINA revealed the mare had sustained a ruptured tendon in the off fore leg.

BOOKMAKERS: Four (4) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
