RACING
RACE 1 CLASS 5 HCP 1800 METRES (8 STARTERS)
Passing the winning post on the first occasion BENELITE (L Timson) shifted out and as a result had to be steadied off the heels of DIAMOND DUKE (D Johnston).
Approaching the 750 metres CAMOOWEAL (S Watkin) shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, which resulted in EXECUTIVE ROOM (G Evans) being severely crowded onto the running rail. EXECUTIVE ROOM lost considerable ground in this incident and BAM (N Jolly) which was following was obliged to shift ground outwards to avoid that runners heels.
A post-race veterinary examination of EXECUTIVE ROOM revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to the off-hock joint.
RACE 2 2YO HCP 1200 METRES (8 STARTERS)
As W Welburn was overweight, he was replaced as the rider of ROYAL KABALENA by S Watkin. W Welburn was reprimanded over this incident as stewards took into account his excellent record in this regard.
ORIANA LASS and TERRY'S SECRET jumped away awkwardly.
RACE 3 MAIDEN HCP 1000 METRES (10 STARTERS)
D Johnston was unable to claim any portion of his allowance on HASSLE'S SISTER. As no other suitable apprentice was available Stewards acceded to trainer R Wilson's request for Apprentice Johnston to retain the ride. D Johnston was fined the sum of $100 for accepting a ride for which he was unable to claim his allowance. At a subsequent inquiry stewards increased his set riding weight to 53kg. He was informed of his future obligation to advise connections of this set weight when accepting riding engagements.
KYLEE MARLENA jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 900 metres STANSUNIQUE (J Piper) when racing greenly shifted in and away from RHYME OR REASON (J Stephens) which resulted in MORN PATROL (P Wheeler) being tightened onto NORTHERN KNIGHT (D Rewald). NORTHERN KNIGHT commenced to race ungenerously following this interference.
D Johnston accidentally dropped his whip rounding the hometurn. D Johnston was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of each race.
Inside the 200 metres STANSUNIQUE shifted in and away from LET US ROCK (F Okawa).
RACE 4 SPECIAL CONDITIONS HCP 1000 METRES (9 STARTERS)
Approaching the 600 metres NOT TOO VAIN (J Stephens) was inclined to hang in and as a result placed OVER THE ODDS (N Jolly) in restricted room for some distance. NOT TOO VAIN continued to race ungenerously and inside the 300 metres shifted in despite the efforts of its rider resulting in KYLEE MARLENA (M Evans) having to be checked. In this incident UNDAMUNDA (L Timson) contributed to the interference by shifting out slightly under pressure.
Trainer Mr N Perry was shown the patrol film and advised that a warning would be placed on NOT TOO VAIN'S racing manners.
RACE 5 CLASS 1 HCP 1100 METRES (11 STARTERS)
PROUD MOGUL lost considerable ground after rearing at the start.
DANCING LIMO jumped out at the start and hampered ALL JAKE.
SPRITELY STYLE jumped inwards at the start and crowded CROSSBLETCH onto SOK.
Approaching the 600 metres ALL JAKE (D Whitmore) commenced to over-race and was obliged to be steadied off the heels of KENFIRE (M Unwin).
RACE 6 CLASS 4 HCP 1100 METRES (12 STARTERS)

ARCHIBALD jumped inwards and crowded MOORABOOL FLYER onto JUGLIMO.
SONAMAR (J Piper) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
TANDOAKA (W Welburn) was inclined to hang out rounding the first turn.
Following the event N Jolly the rider of HALOGEN STAR reported that in his opinion the gelding felt amiss in its action and failed to respond to his riding throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. When questioned trainer R Dowe advised that HALOGEN STAR had recovered from a back injury sustained following its last start at Caloundra on the 8th July 2001 and further that gelding had worked well leading up to today's event and he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance. Mr Dowe was advised that he must barrier trial HALOGEN STAR to stewards' satisfaction prior to its next race start.
RACE 7 CLASS 3 HCP 1300 METRES (13 STARTERS)
AMITY STAR failed to jump with the field and lost considerable ground at the start. Trainer N Perry was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding prior to racing again.
Approaching the first turn CELASTRAL (D Simmons) had to be steadied off the heels of SCARUM HAREM (S Watkin) when the pace slackened. As a result CELASTRAL shifted out and hampered MONO BLUE (C Beets). Leaving the 500 metres MONO BLUE shifted in and momentarily tightened CELASTRAL.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of ROUGH 'EM UP trainer Mr B Davis stated that he had encountered a number of minor injury setbacks with the gelding during this preparation. He further added that this was the gelding's third run back from a six month spell and in his opinion ROUGH 'EM UP has been racing into form. He further added that the gelding had raced on gamely at its last start on the sand in Gladstone on the 21/7/01 after suffering interference early in the that event and racing wide throughout. These explanations were noted.
RACE 8 OPEN HCP 1300 METRES (11 STARTERS)
Due to a clerical error J Stephens was inadvertently advertised as the rider of INTAJAZ when in fact the gelding was to be ridden by G Evans.
As D Lloyd was indisposed through illness he was replaced as the rider of IVORY WALK by J Felix.
As D Johnston was unable to claim any portion of his allowance he was replaced as the rider of DIVIOT by App L Timson.
Approaching the 150 metres SEAHAWK MISS (D Rewald) shifted in under pressure and hampered CAUGHT ME (W Welburn). D Rewald was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Leaving the 150 metres SEAHAWK MISS continued to shift in which resulted in FIRE GAL (P Wheeler) being tightened for room between that runner and DIVIOT (L Timson) which contributed by shifting out under pressure.
