STEWARDS REPORT – MONDAY 6TH AUGUST, 2001

GENERAL (Rockhampton meeting 31st July, 2001
Trainer R. Wilson reported that after competing in race 3 HASSLE’S SISTER had sustained a tendon injury.
RACING:
RACE 1 CLASS 2 HCP. 1100 METRES (7 STARTERS): BULLRING BABE jumped in at the start and hampered DECEPTIVE DANCER.
FLAT jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the first turn SEATTLE ROCK (N. Jolly) was obliged to steady off the heels of FLAT (M. Lehmann) which in turn had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of WINE CLUB (D. Whitmore).
SEATTLE ROCK was held up for clear running from approaching the 300 metres until inside the final 100 metres.
Dennis Whitmore the rider of WINE CLUB was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
RACE 2 MAIDEN HCP. 1400 METRES (6 STARTERS) A short distance after the start LUSTY TYCOON shifted out and hampered POKER.
Approaching the 1100 metres MUSICAL SPIN (D. Rewald) had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of RELUCTANT BID (D. Evans) which shifted in. Dale Evans was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 700 metres MUSICAL SPIN shifted in of its own accord and struck the running rail and as a result shifted out abruptly and inconvenienced FREMAX (D. Whitmore).
Approaching the 300 metres POKER (D. Simmons) made contact with the running rail when attempting to obtain clear running to the inside of EXPLOSIVE LASS (NZ) (A. Lane).
RACE 3 CLASS 1 HCP 1500 METRES (14 STARTERS). ON TERMS was crowded at the start between RIVER MAGIC and CROSSBLETCH.
WICKY POPO was also hampered at the start between PURR BRIGHT and SAMATAI LEE.
Approaching the 1100 metres WARRANULLA (D. Simmons) had to be steadied off the heels of POWER HOME SAM (D. Evans) when the pace slackened and as a result WARRANULLA shifted out and crowded RIVER MAGIC (N. Jolly) onto PURR BRIGHT (J. Stephens). From this point RIVER MAGIC commenced to race ungenerously and approaching the 750 metres shifted in despite the efforts of its rider and hampered WARRANULLA. LUNAR PROSPECTOR (L Timson) which was following had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WARRANULLA.
RIVER MAGIC continued to race ungenerously and compounded in the straight. A post race vet examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
Inside the final 100 metres POWER HOME SAM (D. Evans) shifted out under pressure which resulted in ON TERMS (D. Whitmore) having to be steadied by its rider. D. Evans was severely reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
D. Johnston the rider of ALL THINGS (NZ) was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race.
Trainer W. Meek reported that WARRANULLA had been stripped on the near hind leg in this event.
RACE 4 CLASS 3 HCP. 1600 METRES (9 STARTERS. ALLIE BOB knuckled over as the gates opened.
FRIANDISE stood as the gates opened and lost considerable ground as a result.
A post race vet examination of FRIANDISE failed to reveal any abnormality although the mare was showing signs, behind the barriers, that she was in season. Taking this into account stewards advised trainer J. Marlow that a warning would be placed on the barrier behaviour of FRIANDISE.
Approaching the 1400 metres AWESOME LAD (C. Beets) commenced to race ungenerously and as a result shifted outwards abruptly after its rider attempted to assume a position closer to the fence.
RACE 5 CLASS 6 HCP. 1400 METRES (8 STARTERS)..Trainer D. Hansen was fined the sum of $50 for presenting CICATRIX to the saddling enclosure without the correct gear .
BEREYLA (M. Evans) which broke through the barriers prior to the start was quickly recaptured and passed fit to start.
DESERT ACTION (NZ) was slow to begin.
DONLANI (C. Beets) jumped away awkwardly and raced ungenerously for a short distance after the start.
Approaching the 200 metres DONLANI had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of DESERT ACTION (NZ) (C. Taylor) which shifted out under pressure.
BARSAC lost its near hind plate in running.
RACE 6 3YO MAIDEN HCP 1100 METRES (10 STARTERS)..Trainer T. Hall, through his representative, was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare the rider for SIR TO YOU by the prescribed time.
GO WINCHESTER and OAKLEY’S STAR were both slow to begin.
STRONG VERSE, ORIANA LASS, INDIAN JADE and BIDDIN WITH BERNIE all raced wide in the early stages and rounding the first turn.
Approaching the 200 metres TWIN DANCER (A. Lane) shifted out and made contact with STRONG VERSE (J. Piper).
RACE 7 CLASS 5 HCP 1200 METRES (10 STARTERS). ALBITIOUS jumped in at the start and crowded AL CHANEL onto SHEIKH.
A post race vet examination of AL CHANEL revealed the mare to be sore in both front fetlocks and the near side front heels.
D. Evans the rider of ALBITIOUS was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race. In issuing the reprimand stewards were not of the opinion that his actions had cost him third placing in the event.
RACE 8 OPEN HCP 1200 METRES (10 STARTERS). J. Piper the rider of YALLAH STINGER was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in LOKIE’S COURAGE (N. Jolly) striking that runners heels and blundering at the winning post.
J. Pipers licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 Capricornia Racing Association meetings to commence after Thursday 9/8/01 and to expire after 18/8/01.
BOOKMAKERS: Three (3) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
