STEWARDS REPORT – SUNDAY 19TH AUGUST, 2001
STEWARDS: J. BOON (CHAIRMAN), D. HENSLER, D. MACKLYN, G. MEEK, N. VAGG (CADET)
WEATHER: FINE. TRACK: GOOD
GENERAL – Fred Smith was fined the sum of $50 for failing to notify his riders by the prescribed time for runners SPECIAL FIRE (R2) and INDIAN JADE (R5).
RACING:
RACE 1 CLASS 3 HCP. 1100 METRES (5 STARTERS). Approaching the 600 metres MAO’S IMAGE was inclined to hang in causing slight crowding to TERRY’S SECRET (S. Quick).
SARANEE (D. Evans) made the home turn awkwardly resulting in ATHENE’S STAR (J. Stephens) being taken wider on the track.
Over the concluding 200 metres SARANEE (D. Evans) was inclined to shift out under pressure resulting in its rider D. Evans having to straighten his mount on several occasions.
It was further reported by SARANEE’S rider D. Evans, that he felt the mare raced with its tongue over the bit.
A veterinary inspection of MAO’S IMAGE revealed that the mare was sore in both front fetlocks.
RACE 2 CLASS 4 HCP. 1800 METRES (8 STARTERS). At the start SPECIAL FIRE (D. Whitmore) jumped inwards making contact with DR. SUN (D. Evans).
Approaching the 800 metre mark SPECIAL FIRE commenced to race fiercely.
Over the concluding stages CELASTRAL (W. Welburn) was inclined to shift in when placed under pressure.
RACE 3 CLASS 5 HCP 1000 METRES (6 STARTERS) Nothing to report.
RACE 4 OPEN HCP. 1000 METRES (8 STARTERS). Prior to the start HIGH VALOUR was fractious.
As the gates opened HIGH VALOUR jumped awkwardly.
HAS IT ALL (D. Whitmore) jumped inwards making contact with ROYAL CHANDON (NZ) (O. Galea).
Allan Jenkinson was fined the sum of $25 for an infringement of AR140A in that he presented his horse in the incorrect gear.
RACE 5 MAIDEN HCP. 1300 METRES (10 STARTERS)..At the start ORIANA LASS and REPAYEE made contact.
Approaching the 800 metres PIALAH (W. Welburn) had to be restrained off the heels of ALGASKAY (J. Stephens) when the pace leaders altered. As a result TAESA (P. Wheeler) was obliged to be steadied off ALGASKAY heels which resulted in further hampering to STARLIT PASS (T. Williams) which was trailing.
LARCOM HOPE (D. Simmons) struck the running rail at the 600 metres.
Approaching the 150 metres PIALAH (W. Welburn) was inclined to shift in under pressure.
Approaching the 100 metres STARLIT PASS (T. Williams) steadied when placed in restricted running to the inside of ABANDONED JET (L. Timson).
Phillip Pengelly trainer of PIALAH was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.
RACE 6 CLASS 2 HCP 1200 METRES (14 STARTERS) Due to A. Williams being unable to make the weight P. Wheeler replaced him as the rider of BULLRING BABE.
A Williams was fined the sum of $50 for infringement of AR120(b) in that he accepted a ride for which he could not make the weight.
At the start DAZZER BOY (J. Stephens) jumped outwards crowding BULLRING BABE (P. Wheeler) out onto ALL THINGS (NZ) (D. Johnston).
Approaching the 800 metres LIGHTFOOT TANGO (D. Simmons) and STRADDIE BOWLING (C. Beets) bumped.
D. Evans rider of CONSTANTINE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that when he permitted his mount to shift out when he was insufficiently clear of KENFIRE at a point nearing the 200 metres resulting in that runner having to be restrained and losing ground. D. Evans licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 Capricornia Racing Association race meetings to commence immediately and to expire midnight 6th September, 2001.
RACE 7 CLASS 1 HCP 1600 METRES (8 STARTERS) Mrs L Wedmaier trainer of PURR BRIGHT advised stewards that it would be the intentions of connections to have the mare ridden from behind.
POKER (W. Welburn) was slow to begin.
KULA SHAKER (D. Evans) hung out when placed under pressure over the concluding 300 metres. This placed rider D. Evans at a disadvantage due to him being unable to ride the mare out vigorously with the whip.
Subsequent to the running of race 7, John Stephens rider of PURR BRIGHT, reported to stewards that he was unable to restrain the mare into a position deemed to be appropriate regarding the riding instructions he received prior to the race. He stated that due to the pace of the race he had to let his mount race in a forward position.
BOOKMAKERS: Four (4) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
