STEWARDS REPORT – TUESDAY 28TH AUGUST, 2001
STEWARDS: J. BOON (CHAIRMAN), D MACKLYN, D. TAPSALL, N FOX, N VAGG (CADET)
WEATHER: FINE. TRACK: GOOD
GENERAL: O Galea was unable to fulfil his riding commitments for Tuesday 28th August, 2001 due to illness.
Stewards advised O. Galea that he would be required to provide a doctors certificate stating his medical grounds for his inability to fulfil his commitments at todays meeting. Furthermore he was advised that he would be required to furnish the stewards with a medical certificate prior to him resuming race riding.
LONGREACH was declared a late scratching at 9am when trainer TJ Sigvart advised that the gelding had pricked itself when casting a plate. Stewards advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate to endorse the injury.
RACING:
RACE 1 OPEN HCP. 1800 METRES (8 STARTERS). J. Stephens replaced O Galea as the rider of CAPTAIN SMOOTH.
Prior to the start CAPTAIN SMOOTH (J. Stephens) was fractious in the barrier stalls.
As the gates opened CURRAJONG KING (B. Appo) was slow to begin.
EXPLODER (N. Jolly) was slow to muster early speed.
INTAJAZ (G. Evans) struck the running rail when racing over the crossing for the first time which resulted in CAPTAIN SMOOTH having to be steadied which further resulted in EXPLODER (N. Jolly) being forced wider on the track which inconvenienced IVORY WALK (J. Felix) which was trailing.
CICATRIX (M. Evans) shifted out marginally nearing the 400 metres mark, resulting in INTAJAZ (G. Evans) having to be steadied which in turn forced CURRAJONG KING (B. Appo) out hampering EXPLODER (N. Jolly).
Over the concluding stages DERBY STREET (P. Wheeler) was unable to obtain clear running.
Stewards questioned B. Appo rider of CURRAJONG KING regarding his riding tactics. He advised stewards that trainer Mr. Reardon advised that he felt that the middle stages of the race would be run at a slow pace and should this be the case B. Appo was instructed to ride his mount into a forward position. He further stated that when placing the gelding under pressure to go forward that it was unable to muster the speed to put itself into the race.
N. Jolly the rider of EXPLODER was advised by stewards to exercise care with regards to riding his mounts out to the finish.
Mr D Saville, owner of ISAAC was advised that the gelding would be stood down for the mandatory 3 months due to internal haemorrhaging. He was further advised that the gelding would not be permitted to commence training on a race course for a period of 2 months and prior to the horse resuming racing it must gallop over 1000 metres to the satisfaction of stewards The document of description was endorsed accordingly.
RACE 2 CLASS 1 HCP. 1000 METRES (10 STARTERS). At the start TRUE GRUNT (W. Welburn) jumped outwards hampering SPEED FLIRT (B. Appo) which caused crowding to EBONY CRYSTAL (J. Stephens) which was badly hampered onto the hind quarters of ISAAC (M. Unwin) which turned that gelding inwards, further compounding the interference sustained by EBONY CRYSTAL.
FINAL JET (R. Mules) raced wide approaching the 400 metres. R. Mules rider of FINAL JET reported that the gelding raced untractably.
RACE 3 MAIDEN HCP 1100 METRES (11 STARTERS). At the start ROYAL KABALENA (N. Jolly) jumped awkwardly and made contact with MORN PATROL (P. Wheeler) which was slightly hampered by AUTHENTIC MAN (M. Barnham) which jumped inwards. This resulted in MORN PATROL being pushed in onto the hind quarters of ROYAL KABALENA which resulted in that gelding being turned sideways.
N. Jolly rider of ROYAL KABALENA was at a loss to explain the substandard start, however added that he felt that his mount raced disappointingly subsequent to the start.
Approaching the 800 metres IN THE DISTANCE (D. Johnston) was obliged to steady when slightly crowded by CAPICE (W. Orbell) which shifted in to obtain position on the fence. W. Orbell was advised by stewards to exercise care when places in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 500 metres AUTHENTIC MAN (M. Barnham) and ON HIS OWN (W. Welburn) made contact.
As the runners concluded the event AUTHENTIC MAN made the crossing awkwardly and had to be checked off the heels of ROYAL KABALENA which hung in badly at that point.
RACE 4 CLASS 4 HCP. 1100 METRES (9 STARTERS). At the start ANTS (D. Johnston) jumped inwards crowding OUR CORKY (B. Appo) in onto OELAND (J. Piper).
Approaching the 850 metres OUR CORKY commenced to over race after being crowded for room by SHEER IMPULSE (C. Taylor) after shifting in at that point.
Stewards question D. Johnston rider of ANTS, over the performance of the mare in the straight. D. Johnston stated that his mare was inclined to shift out and away from calling on the inside. The stewards advised D. Johnston of their concern in his apparent lack of vigour in trying to straighten his mount over the concluding stages and further commented the same to his master Mr. John Wigginton.
Mr. Wigginton advised stewards that he and his apprentice had been endeavouring to rectify the apparent problem of the horses shifting out under pressure when being ridden along by Darryl Johnston.
RACE 5 CLASS 3 HCP. 1300 METRES (8 STARTERS)..In the middle stages WITH CAUSE (D. Whitmore) raced ungenerously until a point nearing the 450 metres where the gelding struck the fence.
RACE 6 SPECIAL CONDITIONS HCP 1200 METRES (13 STARTERS) At the start DON TEL TRA (T. Atkinson) jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 400 metres RANCHO RED (D. Whitmore) made the turn awkwardly.
Over the concluding 100 metres SILK ORGANZA (C. Taylor) shifted out under pressure crowding HEROIC BOY (R. Mules) who in turn slightly hampered DARK EYED LADY (F. Okawa) which was placed in restricted racing room to the inside of CARRARA LAD (J. Piper).
RACE 7 CLASS 6 HCP 1400 METRES (10 STARTERS) J. Stephens replaced O. Galea as the rider of CHINDANCER.
Over the concluding stages CELASTRAL (W. Welburn) was inclined to shift in under pressure.
A Jones reported to stewards that CELASTRAL had been stripped during running
RACE 8 CLASS 2 HCP 1600 METRES (12 STARTERS). NEWFIELD (D. Simmons) jumped inwards taking NAKED SPUR (N. Jolly) in onto STRADDIE BOWLING (C Beets). As a result POKER (W. Welburn) had to be steadied over the heels of PROUD MOGUL (L. Timson).
Approaching the 1100 metres PROUD MOGUL made contact with the running rail.
Approaching the 600 metres NAKED SPUR dipped when improving onto the heels of NEWFIELD.
Over the concluding stages POKER shifted in under pressure hampering MAHOGANY JET (M. Evans). W. Welburn rider of POKER was advised to exercise care when placed in similar situations.
BOOKMAKERS: Three (3) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
