STEWARDS REPORT- SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2002
STEWARDS PANEL: P Cooper, G Wust, G Meek, G Scott,
WEATHER –Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL – Short Course – out 4m from 1300m – 800m & - out 3m elsewhere. Long Course – out 4m - 1600m to 800m and out 3m to the winning post.
RACE 1:CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1400 METRES (8 STARTERS)
As the start was affected DAVE’S CHANCE (G Evans) jumped away awkwardly.
DISAPPEAR (J Stephens) struck the running rail at approximately the 600 metre mark.
At approximately the 300 metre mark POKER (D Simmons) shifted in marginally which then resulted in TIMBER PRINCE (J Piper) being taken inwards slightly which then resulted in DAVE’S CHANCE (G Evans) being taken inwards and making heavy contact with MR INTEGRITY (B Bell) who in turn made contact with DISAPPEAR (J Stephens) which caused that horse to be hampered.
RACE 2: CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1000 METRES (10 STARTERS)
BAYARDO (L Timson) was a late scratching at 12:08pm by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice after the horse had injured itself on the float.
Trainer M Crowley was reprimanded by the Stewards under the terms of Ar141A(b) for presenting DIN DAENG (C Beets) to the saddling enclosure with oversized nails.
As the start was affected ESPIRE (H Watanabe) slipped in the hindquarters upon jumping.
DIN DAENG (C Beets) was disappointed for a clear run over the concluding stages of the event. Upon returning to the enclosure DIN DAENG had the presence of blood in both nostrils and was deemed to have bled under the terms of the rule AR53A, this was confirmed by the veterinary surgeon.
Trainer M Crowley was advised by the Stewards that DIN DAENG was now barred from racing for a period of 3 calendar months.
RACE 3: MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
WESTERN GLOW (M Evans) was a late scratching at the barriers by order of Stewards when the horse failed to be loaded. Prior to the declaration of correct weight the Stewards ordered deductions be made of 5 cents in the dollar for the win portion of the bet and 6 cents in the dollar for the place portion of the bet.
Trainer B Ibbotson was advised that WESTERN GLOW was now barred until such time as that horse successfully passes an official barrier trial.
It was reported by Trainer D Badham that his horse GO GIRL returned to the enclosure with blood in its mouth having sustained an injury in the barriers prior to the event.
As the start was affected RAPTIME (M Barnham) jumped outwards making heavy contact with DASHING RED (S Quick).
KAIMOTO (L Timson) was slow into stride as the start was affected.
SUPER COOPER (D Simmons) laid outwards at the 600 metre mark.
Stewards reprimanded Jockey J Marks the rider of DANZINA under the terms of AR147A(2a) in that over the concluding stages of the event he used his whip forward of the horses shoulder in the vicinity of the neck.
RACE 4: OPEN H'CAP – 1200 METRES (12 STARTERS)
HAS IT ALL (J Piper) raced erratically in the early to middle stages of the event.
When rounding the home turn CARRARA LAD (M Unwin) and GENERAL TONG (B Appo) came together.
MONTROSE BILL (D.Whitmore) brushed the running rail at approximately the 450m mark.
Under the terms of AR141a(B) Stewards issued a reprimand to Trainer N Brown in that he presented GENERAL TONG into the enclosure with oversized nails.
RACE 5: CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1100 METRES (6 STARTERS)
RIO PARK (D Whitmore) jumped outwards as the start was affected.
FINAL MOUSE (App N Nelson) raced wide into the straight and continued to lay out until the winning post.
Stewards opened an enquiry into the tactics which were adopted by both App H Watanabe the rider of ATHENE’S STAR and Jockey J Stephens the rider of PROUD GLANCE. After taking evidence from both riders Stewards adjourned the inquiry until a time and date to be fixed.
RACE 6: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1300 METRES (13 STARTERS)
Jockey C.Beets was dislodged from his mount MACGNOME during the preliminary of this race. MACGNOME was inspected by the club’s veterinary surgeon and was passed fit to start, Jockey Beets did not sustain any injuries and resumed his place as the rider of MACGNOME.
KWILA QUEEN (G Evans) jumped away awkwardly as the start was affected.
MISTER BANKER (J Marks) raced erratically for a number of strides at approximately the 900 metre mark.
At approximately the 350m mark PACK OF GOLD (App L.Timson) shifted outwards and made contact with HIGHEST POWER (M.Unwin).
GENERAL REPORT:
Stewards opened an inquiry into a complaint lodged by Steward Mr G Wust pertaining to licensed stablehand Miss Samantha Smith after taking evidence from both parties Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.
Stewards also intend to inquire into the reason for Miss Samantha Smith leaving the course without permission.
BOOKMAKERS: bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
