RACE 2 STAGE AND AUDIO CLASS 5 HCP ABT 1500M.

ALLIE BOB was slow away.

When questioned over the tactics employed on STUDLEY ROYAL in the early stages Jockey J. Stephens stated that whilst STUDLEY ROYAL had previously been ridden to lead or race on the pace the trend in recent starts is to try and settle back off the pace so that the horse can run on as it had a tendency to over race when ridden forward and not finish its races off. He also stated that after going a short distance the pace momentarily slackened and he had to steady STUDLEY ROYAL off the heels of YA WAHEED and as a result the horse got its head up and over raced for a short distance. His comments were noted.

RACE 3 CENTRE STATE SIGNS CLASS 1 HCP ABT 1000M.

NOT FAIR jumped awkwardly and made heavy contact with the starting gates.

Apprentice T. Mathieson was cautioned for permitting her mount HEAVEN’S HANDOUT to shift out rounding the home which resulted in VOGT being hampered.

Apprentice Mathieson was also advised of her obligations to stop riding and straighten her mounts after HEAVEN’S HANDOUT shifted out under hard riding down the home straight.

RACE 4 WIN TELEVISION QTIS 2YO MAIDEN HCP ABT 1000M.

ANDY’S SHADOW was a late scratching by order of the stewards at 1.55pm when it was presented to race with overweight shoes. Deductions of 4c the win and 5c the place on the face value of winning tickets were declared and all monies bet on ANDY’S SHADOW are to be refunded. Trainer R. McLennan also advised stewards that REGAL KELLINA which was engaged in Race 6 and wasn’t yet on course was also shod with the same shoes and that he had insufficient time to have the gelding reshod. REGAL KELLINA was also a late scratching by order of the stewards at 1.55pm. Mr McLennan subsequently pleaded guilty under ARR141A(b) and was fined $200.

FAR TOO BUSY jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with DELQUILO which in turn made heavy contact with BRIEF ENCOUNTER which had to be checked.

JACOBS JOY was slow away and raced wide throughout.

SIMPLY THE BEST & STRATHNAVER were slow away.

SILVER SWITCH laid in over the concluding stages under hard riding.

When questioned over the performance of SILVER SWITCH Apprentice H. Watanabe stated his instructions were that because there appeared to be early speed in the race to not bustle the gelding early. He also added that SILVER SWITCH was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages when ridden with the whip. His comments were noted. A post race vet inspection of SILVER SWITCH failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 6 XXXX SUMMER SERIES FINAL QTIS 3YO CLASS 6 HCP ABT 1300M.

CEE JAY TEE was slow away.

OVERSEAS was inclined to hang in the early stages.

Jockey M. Bennett was found guilty of careless riding under Australian Rule of Racing 137(a) in that rounding the home turn and on straightening he showed insufficient effort to prevent his mount STANZA’S GIFT from shifting out which resulted in OVERSEAS being tightened for room between STANZA’S GIFT and CAWDOR DANCER on the outside, with OVERSEAS having to be severely checked and blundering. M. Bennett was suspended from riding in races for 3 meetings to take effect from midnight Sat. 4/01/2003 up to and including Thurs. 16/01/2003.

For some distance near the 200m M. Bennett was unable to fully test his mount STANZA’S GIFT when his whip became entangled in the reins and mane.

As a result MIGHTY CUTE and DUNBAR bumped which resulted in DUNBAR becoming unbalanced and having to be checked. RUN FOR YOUR MONEY which was following also had to be checked. Whilst several factors contributed to the incident nevertheless C. Beets the rider of STORM STRIKE was reprimanded for initially not allowing sufficient room to the runners on his inside.
