ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB - STEWARDS REPORT – FRIDAY 10/01/2003

WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL POSTION – Short Course Rail out 2m 1300m to 400m. True elsewhere. Long Course Rail out 3m from 700m to 400m. Cutaway 400m mark.
RACE 1: CLASS 3 HCP – ABOUT 1400 METRES (10 STARTERS)
Starting time in this event was delayed due to the ambulance officials failing to arrive by the prescribed time.
VINDICATION (D Whitmore) over raced in the early stages of the event and at approximately the 1200 metre mark had to be steadied to avoid getting on to the heels of PENNYWEIGHT (C Beets), this resulted in HULAKAI (R Mules) being inconvenienced to a minor extent.
ELECT A SONG (App L Timson) laid out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.
RACE 2: CLASS 5 HCP – ABOUT 1000 METRES (5 STARTERS)
No incidents in running.

RACE 3: MAIDEN H'CAP – ABOUT 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS)
THE SNOWMAN (D Whitmore) laid in during the early stages of the event.
RUNS ON WATER (J Starr) raced extremely uncompetitive throughout the entire event. When questioned with regard to the poor performance of RUNS ON WATER Jockey Starr informed the Stewards he felt the horse was sore in the near foreleg and raced accordingly, did not respond to the use of the whip and faded out early on in the race. A veterinary report on RUNS ON WATER indicated no abnormalities with the horse. Stewards informed trainer B Trimble that he must obtain a veterinary clearance for the horse prior it racing again and that the horse is barred from provincial race meeting until such time as it can prove itself competitive.
RACE 4: CLASS 6 H'CAP- ABOUT 1200 METRES (6 STARTERS)
Jockey D Simmons became indisposed and was replaced as the rider of UPON A STAR by Jockey R Mules.
Jockey J Piper the rider of BUSTLER was unable to make the allotted weight and was replaced by Apprentice D Evans. Jockey Piper subsequently pleaded guilty to a breach of AR120 (b) and was suspended for a period of 2 calendar weeks to commence from midnight 11/01/03 up to and including the 25/01/03.
WESTERN PLEASURE (J Stephens) blundered from the barrier as the start was affected.
TRANSPOSE (M Unwin) laid in at the 900 metre turn and hampered the running of UPON A STAR (R Mules).
Jockey T Kruger was reprimanded under the terms of LR50 for unfastening her chinstrap before dismounting from her horse GROUCHIE PATTERN.
Jockey R Mules reprimanded under AR140(a) with negligence in that he failed to weight out with irons on his saddle for UPON A STAR.
RACE 5: CLASS 2 H’CAP – ABOUT 1200 METRES (11 STARTERS)
Jockey J Piper was overweight and was replaced by Jockey R Mules as the rider of DARBEAR.
As Jockey D Simmons was indisposed on GERTRUDIS he was replaced by Jockey J Stephens.
CANADIAN MAPLE (M Evans) was fractious in the barriers and was subsequently withdrawn by the order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that deductions be made at a rate of 4cents in the dollar for the win portion of the bet and 5cents in the dollar for the place portion of the bet. Stewards advised trainer Noel Perry that CANADIAN MAPLE is now barred from racing until such time as he can obtain a further barrier test certificate for the horse.
SLOW COAT (M Bennett) bucked for approximately the first 300 metres of the event. Stewards advised trainer W Meek that the horse is now barred from racing until such time as it can successfully pass an official barrier trial.
Due to SLOW COAT bucking, DARBEAR (R Mules) was inconvenienced shortly after the start.
At approximately the 200 metre mark JUST A DAZZLE ( D Rewald) laid inwards momentarily which resulted in GERTRUDIS (J Stephens) shifting inwards and making contact with DARBEAR (R Mules).
The clubs veterinary surgeon reported that MIGHTY CUTE (S Quick) returned to the enclosure lame in the nearside foreleg.
RACE 6: CLASS 1 H’CAP – ABOUT 1300 METRES (12 STARTERS)
As the start was affected FLYING FIBS (J Piper) jumped inwards and made heavy contact with HE’S SO CHEEKY (J Starr) who in turn made contact with TACIT (App L Timson).
Jockey J Starr the rider of HE’S SO CHEEKY was admonished by the Stewards for allowing his mount to shift in shortly after the start and hamper the running of TACIT (App L Timson).
Soon after the start AGBAYANI (M Evans) shifted outwards and inconvenienced the running of QUEEN MAI (App D Evans).
At approximately the 850 metre mark QUEEN MAI (App D Evans) steadied momentarily to avoid getting on the heels of AGBAYANI (M Evans).
Jockey M Unwin the rider of ORIANA LASS was advised to show more care in the future after allowing his mount to shift ground from the home turn to the winning post and inconvenience the running of QUEEN MAI (App D Evans).
RACE 7: OPEN H’CAP – ABOUT 1300 METRES (11 STARTERS)
Jockey R Mules was a replacement rider for VOLCANIC SPARKLE when the declared rider Athol Williams was indisposed.
Apprentice Bryce Dieckmann was replacement rider for TALE OF TRIOMPHE when the declared rider David Simmons was indisposed. Stewards had permitted a claiming apprentice to for fill this engagement.
Jockey John Stephens was the replacement rider for MONTROSE BILL when Jockey Matthew Bennett failed to fulfil his riding engagements. Subsequently Jockey Bennett was fined the sum of $100 for a breach of LR51(1).
Apprentice Dale Evans the rider of LOKIE’S COURAGE was advised to show more care after allowing his mount to shift in at approximately the 1000 metre and inconvenience the running of CITICHARM (D Whitmore).
SWABBING
Routine samples were taken from all winners and forwarded to the racing science centre for analysis.
