ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT
FRIDAY 6TH JUNE, 2003.
STEWARDS PANEL: P. Cooper (Chairman), S Rowe, R Doyle, G Meek, D Macklyn, N Vagg.
WEATHER – Overcast TRACK – Good
RAIL – Short Course True. Long Course out 4 metres from 800m to 400m. Cutaway at 400 metres.
RACE 1: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400 METRES (15 STARTERS)
The starting time of this event was delayed due to the course ambulance failing to arrive at the course by the prescribed time.
BOURBONNAIS (M Unwin) jumped outwards abruptly as the start was affected.
At approximately the 1000 metre mark PETRO RANGER (M Aspinall) shifted inwards and hampered the running of DANCE TO RACE (R Mules) which had to be checked. Stewards reprimanded Jockey Aspinall and advised him to show more care in the future. Stewards also admonished Jockey R Mules with regard to the quality of evidence he presented to the Stewards.
At approximately the 800 metre mark SAILING DAN (C Beets) resented the going and made heavy contact with the inside running rail, this resulted in the horse losing ground which further resulted in LOKIE’S WARRIOR (App H Watanabe) who was travelling behind, clipping heels and becoming unbalanced.
RACE 2: F & M CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1100 METRES (9 STARTERS)
Prior to the running of the event SNAALEE (M Bennett) was examined by the clubs veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
CANADIAN MAPLE (S Watkin) jumped away awkwardly as the start was affected.
Both SNAALEE (M Bennett) and CANADIAN MAPLE (S Watkin) raced greenly in the early and middle stages of the event.
RATTAN (D Tanti) laid inwards from the final 400 metres.
RACE 3: CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1200 METRES (13 STARTERS)
LUX (App M Rice) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start being affected and returned to the inclosure with the presence of blood in its mouth.
LUX (App M Rice) was steadied at approximately the 900 metre mark after improving on the heels of HULA REBEL (App H Watanabe).
RACE 4: QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 1200 METRES (8 STARTERS)
GUILDED BIRD (M Evans) hung outwards when rounding the home turn. Trainer M Wilson was advised that the horse is now barred until such time as it can successfully complete a barrier trial.
It was reported by Trainer R Lindley that MY CHARLIE (M Bennett) returned to the enclosure shin sore.
RACE 5: MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200 METRES (16 STARTERS)
As the start was affected COOL SUCCESS (M Aspinall) jumped outwards and made heavy contact with THE ROAN RANGER (App K Cunningham) who in turn was taken outwards and made contact with ROYAL TENOR (G Michaels)
At approximately the 800 metre mark SLOUCH (C Schumacher) shifted inwards and tightened FUEL TO BURN (S Campton) which resulted in that horse being dictated inwards which caused I LOVE KOS (M Unwin) to make heavy contact with the running rail. Stewards advised Jockey Schumacher to take more care in the future.
RACE 6: OPEN H'CAP – 1200 METRES (15 STARTERS)
As the start was affected AWESOME NIGHT (N Evans) jumped inwards on to MY KING (C Beets) which in turn shifted inwards and inconvenienced CHARLIE HORSE (P Saunders).
IN THE DISTANCE (App M Rice) hung outwards for the entire journey of the event. It was reported by App Rice that the saddle had slipped on his mount IN THE DISTANCE when rounding the home turn.
At approximately the 850 metre mark OUT BREAK (S Campton) shifted inwards and cramped the running of ROUGH ‘EM UP (S Quick). Stewards advised Jockey Campton to show more care.
RACE 7: OPEN H'CAP – 1900 METRES (15 STARTERS)
Leaving the straight for the first time ASTANA (N Evans) shifted inwards hampering the running of VOLCANIC SPARKLE (R Mules) who in turn shifted inwards and inconvenienced DISTRACTION (M Aspinall). Stewards severely admonished Jockey Nathan Evans and advised him to show more care in the future.
Stewards reprimanded App H Watanabe for letting his mount WAR DRUM to shift inwards and hamper the running of BONZERO (A Lane) and also GROWING CONCERN (D Tanti) at approximately the 100 metre mark.
HIRSCHBERG (C Kearney) was inconvenienced at the 100 metre mark when SAMMY (M Bennett) laid inwards.
Stewards heard a complaint lodged by Trainer P Jones in relation to the handling of SAMMY by Jockey M Bennet over the final 400 metres of the event. After taking statements from both parties and viewing patrol films Trainer Paul Jones was satisfied with the ride of Jockey Matthew Bennett and Stewards closed the inquiry
RACE 8: CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1000 METRES (9 STARTERS)
As the start was affected ESPIRE (D Tanti) jumped outwards.
HUGE REGAL (S Quick) jumped inwards.
MAJESTIC SON (G Michaels) was disappointed for a clear run over the concluding stages of the event
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
