GENERAL REPORT;
Trainer R Dowe fined $50 for ineligible nomination OH CANNY (AR64)
Trainer L Horstman fined $50 ineligible nomination DEMON JACK.
RACE 1: 2 Y O Handicap – 1200 METRES (10 STARTERS)
J Cairns replaced by D Evans on MIGHTY MEKONG when unable to make the allotted weight. J Cairns fined $50. (AR120(b))
S Campton replaced by M Evans on OFF WITH THE STARS when unable to make the allotted weight. S Campton fine $100. (AR120(b))
MIGHTY MEKONG reluctant to load.
BRIEF ENCOUNTER slowly away.
Approaching the 800m MOORABIN OVAL (M Bennett), when being restrained off the heels of OFF WITH THE STARS (M Evans), shifted out slightly and bumped KON TIKI ROSE (S Quick) resulting that horse easing slightly and in doing so caused BRIEF ENCOUNTER (H WATANABE) to check and drop back onto FAR TOO BUSY (B Rhodes) which shifted out sharply causing ANDY’S SHADOW to clip its heels and dislodge jockey Dennis Whitmore. Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental and no action was taken. D Whitmore was uninjured in the incident.
B Rhodes (FAR TOO BUSY) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in and out on a number of occasions.
RACE 2: 3 Y O CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000 METRES (10 STARTERS)
Trainer m Crouch fined $50 failing to declare rider BIKINI BOTTOM. (LR70)
BON SIMONE raced greenly throughout.
TYCOON TED (A Lane) jumped inwards onto ARCARENDI (D Tanti) and KITNAT (R Mules).
At about the 400m ACARENDI (D Tanti) shifted in momentarily causing TYCOON TED (A Lane) to ease.
RACE 3: CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1100 METRES (9 STARTERS)
Prior to the start KENAMOUR (M Evans) reared over backwards in the stall dislodging its rider. M Evans was unhurt and KENAMOUR was passed by the veterinarian to take its place in the field.
As the gates opened WHAT HAPPENED (M Bennett) reared in the air striking the uprights and losing ground.
ROCKY (S Quick) overaced from the 1000m to 700m giving its jockey a difficult ride. ROCKY struck the heels of KENAMOUR at about the 700m losing ground.
Following the race KENAMOUR was examined by the Vet who reported the horse had an injury to the near fore fetlock and inside heel.
RACE 4: CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1100 METRES (9 STARTERS)
FRISKY BUSINESS (S Quick) jumped inwards onto GRACEWICK (D Ballard).
GRACEWICK hung in over the concluding stages.
RACE 5: MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
YARRAMAN NUI reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
YARRAMAN NUI (D Evans) pulled hard in the early stages and struck the heels of AVA BLAZE (D Whitmore) at about the 700m.
RACE 6: OPEN H'CAP – 1000 METRES (10 STARTERS)
M Barnham was told by stewards to straighten a set of spurs which were bordering on being unacceptable.
TALE OF TRIOMPHE (G Michaels) blundered at about the 650m and shifted out at about the 350m bumping PURPLE HAND (J Pujolas)
RACE 7: CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300 METRES (13 STARTERS)
D Tanti (MACGNOME) struck his right knee on the upright of the stalls and was treated by the ambulance attendant.
When the pace slowed at about the 900m SHAGEMON (C Beets) commenced to climb and struck the heels of BURLY MAN (D Simmons). In this incident LINE MY POCKET (D Ballard) got onto the heels of SHAGEMON.
RACE 8: SPECIAL CONDITION H'CAP – 1300 METRES (11 STARTERS)
D Tanti indisposed and replaced by D Evans on BOSUN’S PIPER.
Shortly after the start NEW YORK TIMES (G Michaels) eased and caused CRAIGLEA EGO (T Kruger) have difficulty keeping off its heels.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
THREE (3) BOOKMAKERS FIELDED AT THE MEETING.
