Prior to riding, all jockeys were breath tested.
Race 1: CLASS 3 PLATE S/W - 1600 metres
John Wigginton the trainer of ENCOSTING advised that Jockey A Lane would attempt to ride the horse from behind.
After leaving the 1200 metres ENCOSTING (A Lane) which was inclined to over race, worked up on to the heels of DELICATA (D Tanti).
Race 2: MAIDEN PLATE S/W - 1300 metres
BELLAGIO BOY (D Evans) slowly away.
GRAND FAVOUR (K Yoshida) was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
Race 3: QTIS 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1200 metres
Trainer D Crouch presented LINK HOGTHROB with blinkers contrary to the stable return. Mr Crouch stated that he had informed TSC of the gear. Stewards allowed the horse to start in blinkers and undertook to check Mr Crouch’s statement with TSC and should he be in error the matter will be revisited at a later time.
At about the 1050 metres VIKING GOLD (N Evans) and DANCING KAAPTIVE (M Barnham) fell dislodging both riders. As a result of the fall VIKING GOLD was euthanased. DANCING KAAPTIVE was examined by the veterinary surgeon who reported that the horse was suffering soreness to the off fetlock and minor scratches from the fall.
Stewards took statements from Jockeys Paul Hammersley, Matthew Spriggs, Michael Evans & Gary Evans regarding their observations of an incident at about the 1050 metre mark in which DANCING KAAPTIVE (Mark Barnham) and VIKING GOLD (Nathan Evans) fell. An enquiry into this incident will be opened at a date to be fixed when the two riders involved can attend.
A further statement was taken from N Evans when he returned from hospital.
A veterinary examination of KALKA STAR revealed that that horse had lost an off side upper wolf tooth.
Race 4: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200 metres
Jockey M Barnham indisposed replaced by M J Stephens as the rider of ADMIRALADY
AERO BELLE (R McMahon) hung badly in the middle stages of the race.
CENTURY GAL was scratched at 10.07am acting on veterinary advice after a stable accident. A veterinary examination revealed the horse had skin off both knees and they were sore and swollen.
Race 5: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1200 metres
Jockey M Barnham indisposed - replaced by G. Evans as the rider of DANJOSE.
Jockey N Evans indisposed - replaced by M McDonald as the rider of MAPPERNIQUE.
Jockey M Bennett overweight - replaced by K Yoshida as the rider of JACKOSH. M Bennett was fined $100 (AR120(b))
JAZZARK (L Timson) dipped at the start.
Shortly after the start SMART SET (D Evans) shifted in and at the same time WINDSOR LODGE (D Whitmore) shifted out inconveniencing BOSUN’S PIPER (P Hammersley) JAZZARK (L Timson).
Race 6: ROCKHAMPTON GOLD CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 2000 metres
Jockey M Barnham indisposed - replaced by G Evans as the rider of LAURINEL IMPULSE
Jockey N Evans indisposed - replaced by C Beets on TAKE STRIKE
Trainer A Sears’ representative advised Stewards that they would attempt to ride THY KINGDOM COME from behind.
Shortly after straightening TAKE STRIKE (C Beets) shifted out coming into contact with THY KINGDOM KING (K Yoshida).
Approaching the winning post for the first time DEERHILL (USA) (M Bennett) rolled in causing NEW TRADER (P Hammersley) to be cramped for racing room for a few strides.
Race 7: OPEN HANDICAP – 1000m
Jockey N Evans indisposed - replaced on IN THE JUNGLE by K Yoshida
Jockey M Barnham indisposed - replaced on LADY LONG LEGS by D Whitmore.
CAPANNELLE (J Stephens) was slow into stride.
Trainer D Crouch fined $50 presenting MIGHTY STRONGHOLD without bandages AR140A.
