General:
Further to Stewards Report Rockhampton 19th June 2004 Race 3, enquiries were made with Trainers Service Centre regarding the claim by Trainer D Crouch that he submitted a stable return placing blinkers on LINK HOGTHROB. This claim could not be substantiated and Trainer D Crouch was fined $50 AR140A for presenting LINK HOGTHROB with blinkers not declared on the stable return.

As M Bennett was indisposed due to a track incident at Murwillumbah on Sunday 27th June 2004, Stewards permitted the following replacements:

1 Bosun’s Piper – C Beets
2 La Polenta – A Lane
3 Sweet As Sugar – K Mahoney
6 Cover My Tracks – K Mahoney
7 Nightgown – M Evans

Race 1: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1600 metres
BOSUN’S PIPER (C Beets) jumped outwards making contact with DANCER’S EDGE (D Green).
DON’T MUKAROUND (A Lane) over raced in the early and middle stages of the race.
RUN A MUK (D Evans) was disappointed for a run from the 350 to 150 metres.

Race 2: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1400 metres
MIDNIGHT MUSIC (K Mahoney) tended to over race approaching the 1250metre mark and in doing so touched the heels of COLONIAL EXPRESS (J Stanley) and blundered.
An enquiry was held into an incident at about the 250metre mark in which SLASHED (D Evans) shifted in sharply causing LA POLENTA (A Lane), which was losing ground, to be inconvenienced. Jockey Dale Evans was issued with a reprimand.

Race 3: CLASS 3 PLATE (S/W) - 1300 metres
ENCOSTING (N Day) was slow into stride.
STANZA’S GIFT (A Lane) over raced in the early stages.
At about the 50-metre mark SOMERSET ROAD (D Evans) had to ease off the heels of SWEET AS SUGAR (K Mahoney), which was losing ground.
Jockey M Evans was questioned with regard to the riding tactics of CEE JAY TEE. M Evans stated that it was his intention to ride the horse back in the field. M Evans felt that he would be better served staying on the fence to try and gain an inside run in the straight that failed to eventuate.
Trainer Margaret Cooney agreed that the horse was to be ridden back in the field but was disappointed with its performance over the concluding stages.

Race 4: SPECIAL CONDITIONS HANDICAP - 1000 metres
K Pattillo the trainer of TELEWIN fined $50 LR70 failing to notify jockey by prescribed time.
JIMBEEKRAK jumped awkwardly causing jockey K Mahoney to strike his right foot on the barriers.

Race 5: QTIS 2YO HANDICAP - 1200 metres
KALKA STAR scratched at 1.52pm on veterinary advice.

Race 6: MAIDEN PLATE (SW) – 1200 metres
WISE PENNY (T Mathieson) jumped inwards coming into contact with SMEE (D Green).
LET’S KANOODLE (A Lane) was slow away.
COVER MY TRACKS (K Mahoney) drifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 7: CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 metres
Lyn Manzelmann the trainer of QUESADILLA fined $50 (LR70) failing to notify jockey by prescribed time.
A protest was lodged by Craig Beets the rider of BON SIMONE (2nd) against ST SPARTICA (N Day) being declared the winner alleging interference at about the 600 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, viewing the video and on their own observations, Stewards dismissed the protest and placings stood.

Race 8: OPEN HANDICAP – 1200 metres
Jockey Mark Dale indisposed, replaced by Jockey Davin Green on IN THE DISTANCE.
QUESADILLA (K Mahoney) and BAA HA (S Quick) behaved badly in the barriers, were removed and examined by the veterinary surgeon. QUESADILLA was scratched at 4.49pm acting on veterinary advice. A deduction of 9 cents in the $ for a win and 10 cents in the $ for a place were ordered in accordance with the provisions of the Racing & Betting Act. All monies invested on this horse were ordered refunded.
Trainer W Trimble was advised that BAA HA would be required to pass a barrier test prior to renominating.
Trainer Lyn Manzelmann was advised that QUESADILLA would be required to pass a barrier test prior to renominating.
