Race 1: Maiden Plate 3yo & up S/W - 1400 metres
1st: LA TAR 2nd: GO JACK 3rd: SYDNEY JACK 4th: HIT AND MIST
LA TAR was fractious in the barriers.
As the gates opened GOLDEN SHEEN jumped inwards and made contact with FLIP HOSE.
SYDNEY JACK was obliged to ease slightly at approx the 1200 mtrs to avoid the heels of FLIP HOSE.
FLIP HOSE raced ungenerously in the middle stages and shifted inwards making contact with SYDNEY JACK at approx the 1000 metres.
GOLDEN SHEEN raced wide from about the 850 metres to the home turn. Over the concluding stages GO JACK shifted inwards and pressured SYDNEY JACK.
The veterinarian reported that LA TAR suffered a minor skin laceration to the upper lip in the barrier stalls.
Race 2: Special Conditions Handicap - 1400 metres
1st: MYCENAE 2nd: SCHOONER OR LATER 3rd: BIRRONG 4th: ROSIELEE MISS
WITH INTENT was slow into stride.
ROSIELEE MISS and BIRRONG made contact at approx the 1100 mtrs.
Jockey M Barnham rider of MYCENAE returned to scale in excess of ½ Kg of his declared weight. M Barnham was fined $100 AR145.
Race 3: Class 5 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st: POP OUT ‘N’ DASH 2nd: TOPAZIOS 3rd: ST SPARTICA 4th: RORY’S NORTH
M Barnham rider of RORY’S NORTH was replaced by jockey M L EVANS when he was unable to make the allotted weight.
At the start RORY”S NORTH moved in and bumped MR HEALY.
Race 4: Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st: CLOSED OUT 2nd: CHIP SHOT 3rd: TAKE THE CAKE 4th: ZED STREET
At the start LA LA BONGO moved out and bumped BONDOOLA LADY which was slow into stride.
BLAZING LIL was caught wide from the start until about the 600 METRES.
Approaching the 700 metres LA LA BONGO who was over-racing had to be steadied on the heels of MADAM KANOOT.
Prior to correct weight connections of TAKE THE CAKE requested to view the photo finish.
On returning to the enclosure Tracey Mathieson was dislodged from BONDOOLA LADY.
After the race stewards questioned trainer Max Hansen into the improved performance of CLOSED OUT. He said that the horse had been in the spelling paddock for 12 months and since he has been back in work the horse had been working well. He also stated that the stable did not support the horse today. Stewards noted his explanation.
Stewards question Trainer Samantha Kingston and Jockey Mark Barnham in relation to the performance of KAAPTAN. Jockey Mark Barnham said that the horse raced like a tired horse. Trainer Samantha Kingston said the horse worked well on Tuesday but would now spell the horse. Stewards noted these explanations and the horse was sent to be swabbed.
Race 5: Class 3 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st: SPEEDEX 2nd: SCANDAL PARK 3rd: JUMPIN’ JARED 4th SIERRA SLAMMER
SIERRA SLAMMMER was slow to jump.
Approaching the 500 metre mark SCANDAL PARK had to ease off the heels of SIERRA SLAMMER.
Race 6: Class 1 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st: JUST NECKING 2nd: RERUN 3rd: BUILT LIKE CLINT 4th: BIG DAVE
KINGS MIRROR was declared a late scratching at 3.25pm by order of the stewards due to the unavailability of a suitable rider.
Stewards permitted Jockey Darryl Johnston to ride MCLINTOCK 1.5 kgs over weight as no other rider was available.
Stewards permitted Jockey Mark Barnham to ride AMBER KING 1 kg over weight as no other rider was available.
At the start BIG DAVE jumped out and JUST NECKING jumped in hampering RERUN.
Approaching the 800 metres MATERIAL MISS shifted in when insufficiently clear of HULA EXPRESS causing that horse to be taken in and causing BIG DAVE to check and lose ground. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey Anthony Merritt, the rider of MATERIAL MISS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and his license was suspended from race riding for 7 meetings from 28/05/05 up and to including 08/06/05.
Leaving the 700 metre mark MATERIAL MISS (A Merritt) shifted in when insufficiently clear of HULA EXPRESS forcing that horse to move in and cause JEN’S DELIGHT to ease and lose ground. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey Anthony Merritt was issued a severe reprimand.
GENERAL:
A complaint was lodged by Steward G Meek against Trainer K Smyth. An inquiry will be opened at a time and date to be fixed.
