Race 1: QTIS 2YO Handicap – 1100 metres
1st: CRAIGLEA COWBOY 2nd: CARNABY SPRINGS 3rd: SHUKU 4th: TOTALLY INNOCENT
CALL THE ROLL delayed the start when it broke through the barriers. The filly was quickly restrained and took its place in the field.
RUSHABLOOD was slowly away.
SHUKU was slowly into stride.
Shortly after the start REIGNING HAIL was tightened for room between CARNABY SPRINGS and TOTALLY INNOCENT.
FORGOTTEN ACCENT eased approaching the 700 metre mark, and then approaching the 650 metre mark, shifted out, resulting in REIGNING HAIL having to be eased on two occasions.
At the 800 metre mark, CARNABY SPRINGS shifted out, making contact with RUSHABLOOD.
Jockey M Dale reported that in the early stages of the race, the saddle shifted on CALL THE ROLL, putting him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. The horse lost ground sharply over the concluding stages, and the stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of the CALL THE ROLL, which revealed that the horse to be moderately distressed, and displayed a slow recovery rate.
Approaching the 200 metre mark, REIGNING HAIL, when attempting to obtain a run to the inside of RUSHABLOOD, had to be eased, and lost ground when FORGOTTEN ACCENT shifted out.
Apprentice M Radecker was reprimanded under AR137 (a) in this incident.
Race 2: Class 4 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st: GREAT GLADIATOR 2nd: BRO 3rd: DOODA HUCKLEBUCK 4th: ST SPARTICA
Prior to the start, GUNNISON ISLAND was fractious in the barriers and declared a late scratching by stewards acting on veterinary advice at 1.07 pm. After the race, deductions of 2 cents a win and 2 cents a place were declared prior to correct weight being given.
ST SPARTICA was fractious in the barriers, and after a veterinary examination was cleared to start.
At the start ST SPARTICA was slowly into stride.
Shortly after straightening, ST SPARTICA shifted out, and brushed BRO.
Apprentice C Pay was reprimanded by stewards for allowing his mount to shift ground in the straight, and for his apparent lack of effort to stop riding and straighten when his mount shifted ground over the final 100 metres (AR137(a)).
Connections of GUNNISON ISLAND were advised the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily at an official barrier trial.
After a complaint by trainer J Wigginton, and information from apprentice R Plumb(ST SPARTICA), stewards advised the starter and assistants, that in future, all horses that require attention following an incident, must be removed from the barriers, and examined by the veterinarian.
Race 3: Maiden Handicap – 1500 metres
1st: BELLO GINO 2nd: CHARNOOK 3rd: LIVINGSTONE COUNTY 4th: CAVALIER APPROACH
ZED STREET was examined by the veterinarian at the barriers and cleared to start.
LIVINGSTONE COUNTY and MOLLYS STAR were slowly away.
Approaching the 800 metres, MOLLYS STAR had to be eased off the heels of SPARKLING ASCOT, which stepped in for a stride.
CHARNOOK shifted in over the final 50 metres making contact with CAVALIER APPROACH. Jockey A Best was reminded of his obligations under similar circumstances.
Race 4: Class 1 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st: DRAVEEN 2nd: THE ROAN RANGER 3rd: REUBENS GOLD 4th: HAPPY FARMER
RERUN jumped out at the start, taking THE ROAN RANGER and BONNE PAL wider on the track.
Approaching the 800 metres, WESTON LAKE commenced to over-race and brushed the fence, becoming awkward for a few strides, shifted out, taking AUTUMN PRINCE wider on the track.
Jockey D Evans reported that HAPPY FARMER was inclined to lay out for the entire journey.
After the race jockey A Best reported when questioned by stewards, that his mount AUTUMN PRINCE did not feel right throughout the race, and did not respond over the final 300 metres of the race when placed under pressure. A veterinary inspection revealed no abnormalities. Stewards notified trainer A Hayward that a veterinary certificate would be required before the horse could start again.
Race 5: Class 2 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st: STIPEND (NZ) 2nd: YUKON PRIDE 3rd: MONTASHKA 4th YO KIDOKI
STIPEND (NZ) jumped awkwardly.
JUST NECKING was slowly away.
Approaching the 600 metres, JUST NECKING had to momentarily be steadied when the pace slowed.
JUST NECKING was placed in restricted racing room from the 200 metres to the winning post, when attempting to take a run to the inside of YO KIDOKI.
Race 6: F & M Class 4 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st: KAI CIBO 2nd: SISTER CATHERINE 3rd: DANATINA 4th: PUNTERS REWARD
SALVITAL was slow into stride.
Approaching the 900 metres, MISS JUBA commenced to lay in on to DANATINA for a few strides, and then approaching the 750 metres, DANATINA moved out, and made contact with DAILY CONNECTION, which lay in for 100 metres.
DAILY CONNECTION was wide throughout the race.
When questioned by stewards, apprentice R Plumb reported that DAILY CONNECTION was not striding out in the straight, and appeared to be under stress from the 200 metres on.
Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of the horse, which revealed the horse to be sore in both front fetlocks. A veterinary certificate will be required before the horse starts again.
Correct weight was delayed when jockey P Cullen asked to view the video over the final 100 metres. No objection was forthcoming, and correct weight was declared.
Over the final 100 metres, SISTER CATHERINE lay in over the heels of KAI CIBO.
Race 7: QRSE Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st: LATE FOR TEA 2nd: TYCOON TED 3rd: EXEMPLIFY 4th: BOURVERIE’S JEST
STREAM GUL was slowly away.
TREASURE THE KWILA jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 500 metres, BOURVERIE’S JEST was tightened for room to the inside of TYCOON TED and brushed the fence when it was taken in by CHIEF HARMONY at this point. Stewards opened an enquiry into the incident, and gave apprentice L Fyfe the benefit of a very grave doubt and took no action.
KASHKII (NZ) lost ground sharply from the 600 metres. Jockey D Evans reported that the horse failed to show anything when placed under pressure. Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection, which revealed no abnormalities but the horse may have choked down.
Correct weight was delayed when apprentice R Plumb (BOURVERIE’S JEST) asked to view the film with regards to lodging an objection for the minor placings. No objection was forthcoming, and correct weight was declared.
Race 8: QRSE Prelude Open Handicap – 1900 metres
1st: LATINLOVER (NZ) 2nd: CELTIC TRIAL 3rd: LEGAL BRIEF 4th: MYCENAE
LEGAL BRIEF and SAILOR’S LARK were slowly away.
MIDNIGHT AVENUE jumped awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, REVOLVE AROUND HIM commenced to over-race, got its head in the air, and raced erratically.
Approaching the 800 metres, FINAL DEMAND began to over-race, and moved wider on the track.
Approaching the 600 metres, LEGAL BRIEF improved on to the heels of HIGHEST POWER, and blundered.
Jockey A Best was reprimanded under (AR137(c )) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the line.
GENERAL: Trainer A Crane pleaded guilty to a charge of allowing his staff to lead two horses on the course without a bit in their mouth on Thursday 9/6/05. Fined $50 on each count under AR87(A)2.
