Race 1: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1500m:
1st – SKYBENDER 2nd – SEVENTEEN BLACK 3rd – COLT FORTYFIVE 4th – ITSOKAY

On return to scale a protest was lodged by jockey R Hall the rider of COLT FORTYFIVE which was placed third by the judge, against SEVENTEEN BLACK (T Bannon) being declared second on the grounds of alleged interference at the 750m and in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties involved, and viewing the patrol footage, it was established that near the 750m ITSOKAY (D Griffin) when over racing, shifted out taking SEVENTEEN BLACK outwards inconveniencing COLT FORTYFIVE. It was also established that near the 350m SEVENTEEN BLACK shifted out however stewards were of the opinion the movement of SEVENTEEN BLACK had no effect on COLT FORTYFIVE. As stewards were of the opinion that the interference suffered by COLT FORTYFIVE near the 750 metres was not directly attributable to SEVENTEEN BLACK and the movement of SEVENTEEN BLACK near the 350 metres had little or no effect on COLT FORTYFIVE, the protest was dismissed and stewards gave correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the judge.

At a subsequent inquiry jockey R Hall was fined $200 under the provisions of AR 165(3) for lodging an objection which stewards deemed to be frivolous.
