From RJC meeting, 23.6.11 - Race 8
Trainer N. Boyle reported that MEASURED had a bruised near fore heel bulb and was expecting a stone bruise to develop which may have contributed to its performance.

As S. Watkin was ill and A. Best experienced transport difficulties, both were unable to fulfil their engagements and riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Capricorn Tourism & Economic Development Class 4 Handicap- 2200 metres
1st Preacher Boy 2nd - Preacher Man 3rd Indiana 4th- Andre’s Choice
OVERBOARD (C. Pye) was caught 3 wide in the early stages and near the 1600m was restrained to obtain cover.
Near the 200m, R. Wiggins, rider of ANDRE’S CHOICE, had his whip knocked from his grasp.
Race 2: Lawler Hacketts Chartered Accountants Class 1 Plate- 1600 metres
1st Kumali 2nd Funky Lady 3rd Rapid Motion 4th- Belle Verde
The start was delayed due to MARIA ROSA and WATCHYERWALLET having to be re-saddled.
FLOUNCING (P. Keane) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.
FUNKY LADY (R. Wiggins) bounded in the air at the start, losing some ground.
HARVZEE (C. Pye) was hampered on jumping away between COCO LOCO (D. Simmons) and KUMALI (R. McMahon), which jumped inwards.
HARVZEE pulled hard in the early stages.
WATCHYERWALLET lost its near fore plate in running.
KUMALI lost its off hind plate in running.
Stewards intend to seek an explanation from jockey A. Coome regarding the performance of STRUCKBYLIGHTNING.
Race 3: Claude Green F&M Class 3 Handicap- 1200 metres
1st Hidden Babe 2nd Sevenspanishangels 3rd Timeticker 4th- Angel Force
Trainer D.Hansen was fined $200 for failing to declare riders for TIMETICKER & SHEZA HERO, MARTIKA (Race 4) and ACHIEVEMENTS (Race 8).
Trainer J. Manzelmann advised that from the wide barrier, RUN KYLIE RUN would be ridden back from its wide barrier and not in a forward position, as per its usual racing pattern. A public announcement was made to this effect. The horse was ridden accordingly.
At the 900m, RUN THE RAPIDS (C. Pye) raced in restricted room to the inside of SHEZA HERO (D. Missen) and was steadied.
Jockey Matthew Palmer, rider of MARY TEE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HIDDEN BABY (A. Mundy), resulting in that horse having to be checked. Jockey Palmer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 6 race meetings, to commence at midnight, 3 July and to expire at midnight, 10 July.
Near the 400m, TIMETICKER shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped RUN THE RAPIDS (C. Pye).
Jockey C. Whiteley reported that RUN KYLIE RUN was inclined to hang in in the straight.
Trainer G. Peut was advised that RUN THE RAPIDS, which bled for the first time during the event, would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 4: D. Grays Loader & Grader Hire Class 2 Handicap- 1050 metres
1st Peelings 2nd Klitschko 3rd Spurs’n’all 4th- Martika
EXALTED MOLLIE (S. Sheargold) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
DODGE THE THORNS (C. Whitley) was slow to begin.
HIDDEN REWARDS (Matthew Palmer) raced wide until near the 700m.
KLITSCHKO (A. Taylor) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
HIDDEN REWARDS shifted ground in the straight.
DODGE THE THORNS raced wide for the majority of the event.
KICKDAHABIT (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.
Race 5: Kalka Palms Hotel Motel Eric Railton Memorial Open Handicap – 1050 metres
1st Kamboja 2nd King Of The Kongo 3rd Jad 4th- Snorkel
KING OF THE KONGO (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.
SNORKEL (C. Whitley) began awkwardly.
DINERO RAPIDO (A. Butler), KING HUNTER (D. Tanti) and SNORKEL (C. Whitley) raced wide throughout.
Stewards afforded trainer V. Vagg and apprentice jockey C. Pye the opportunity to explain the performance of ASPIRAN. Mr Vagg stated he expected a forward showing from the mare, with the tactics being to go forward and lead if possible or obtain a handy position if unable to lead. He added that he was satisfied with Apprentice Pye’s riding of the mare, adding that ASPIRAN may not have backed up following its previous start on 13 June. Mr Vagg further stated that he would now review the current preparation for ASPIRAN and give consideration to spelling the horse. Jockey Pye stated that, in her opinion, ASPIRAN did not let down throughout as expected. A post race veterinary examination of ASPIRAN revealed minor soreness in the near foreleg. A swab sample was taken from ASPIRAN.
Race 6: Diplock’s Collision Repairs Centre QTIS 600 Plate- 1300 metres
1st Rocket To Glory 2nd Paladin 3rd Divine City 4th- Takotna
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer D. Peoples for the late declaration of J. P. Stanley as the rider of BLACK MONTY.
After being placed in the barriers, FLYING JET reared over and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.35 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on FLYING JET were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer S. O’Dea was advised that FLYING JET must pass an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
DIVINE CITY (A. Taylor) was slow to begin.
TAKOTNA (D. Missen) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with LET IT LOOSE (N. Thomas).
PALADIN (A. Butler) and SLIGHT GLANCE (D. Tanti) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
D. Missen, rider of TAKOTNA, dropped his whip near the 400m.
Near the 200m, DIVINE CITY had difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted out to do so.
DAYTIME DAZZLER (G. Killen) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey K. Wharton regarding the performance of BELLE D’AMOUR. K. Wharton stated he was disappointed with the filly’s performance today, adding that it never felt comfortable in running and was under pressure throughout. He added that BELLE D’AMOUR let down only fairly and was inclined to lay in. Jockey Wharton suggested that the addition of a crossover noseband may have been detrimental to its performance. A post race veterinary examination of BELLE D’AMOUR revealed the filly to be exhibiting signs of tying up.
Race 7: Keppel Coast Communications Rockhampton Cup- 1600 metres
1st Cannyclimb 2nd Old Mates 3rd Writer 4th- Yummy
DEFINITIVE (J. P. Stanley) was slow to begin.
Near the 1200m, INTERTHEBLACK (P. Keane) shifted in slightly, taking LYNCEAN ACADEMY (R. Wiggins) in on to TIMECALL (C. Whitley) and in turn in on to DEFINITIVE and caused OTTO’S DELIGHT (A Taylor) which was following, to be hampered and having to be steadied. Shortly after this incident, TIMECALL commenced to over-race.
OTTO’S DELIGHT (A. Taylor) raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
Near the 200m, INTERTHEBLACK (P. Keane) shifted out and bumped STEEL LIPS (A. Pattillo), which became unbalanced.
PRIMED (R. McMahon) was inclined to lay in from near the 200m.
Over the concluding stages, STEEL LIPS bumped GOD’S HAND (A. Butler).
MAGNUM FORTY FOUR (R. Thompson) raced wide throughout.
Trainer L. Rowe was questioned regarding the performance of CANNYCLIMB, particularly in regard to its previous two performances. He stated that at its previous start in Mackay the gelding had failed to run out a strong 1800m on that occasion, and in Rockhampton on 11 June, CANNYCLIMB had not been ridden to suit that particular race on that occasion. The explanation was noted.
Jockey D. Simmons, rider of the winner, CANNYCLIMB, will be interviewed regarding a celebratory gesture being made prior to the winning post.
Race 8: The Morning Bulletin QTIS 3YO Handicap- 1200 metres
1st Chandra 2nd Fractions 3rd Permission Granted 4th- Achievements
As jockey R. Thompson was dually engaged at rider declaration time on FRACTIONS and PERMISSION GRANTED, stewards permitted jockey P. Keane to be substituted as the rider of PERMISSION GRANTED. Stewards accepted jockey R. Thompson’s explanation regarding this matter.
ZAHARAKIS (A. Butler) and COWBOY TOWN (A. Coome) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 900m, WARDEN BEN (A. Taylor) commenced to overrace and shifted out to a 3 wide position, taking ACHIEVEMENTS (D. Missen) wider. WARDEN BEN raced 3 wide for the remainder of the race.
Passing the 700m, ACHIEVEMENTS was restrained to obtain cover.
PERMISSION GRANTED (P. Keane) shifted out under pressure from approximately the 300m.
A post race veterinary examination of OUR YOUNG LASS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities, however indicated that the filly may have got its tongue over the bit.
