Race 1: The PDL Maiden Plate - 1100 metres
1st ROSE OF MAYHEM 2nd KIDANCHO’S DELIGHT 3rd GOD'S BEST 4th - NAN BELL
The start was slightly delayed when GOD'S BEST (J. Kropp), which had been fractious in the barriers, was removed from the gates, examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
On jumping, ROSE OF MAYHEM (S. Sheargold) ducked in abruptly.
On a number of occasions shortly after the start RICORDO (J. Stanley) hung in, which resulted in CYRIL'S DRAGON (App. A. Taylor) shifting in and away from that runner and making contact with DELANNIKA (N. Patchett), which was hampered.
In the early and middle stages CYRIL'S DRAGON (App. A. Taylor) raced wide.
Near the 400 metres RICORDO (J. Stanley), which continued to hang in, shifted in and bumped BEARTAX (App. K. Matheson).
RICORDO (J. Stanley) and NAN BELL (T. O'Hara) raced wide throughout.
Jockey J. Stanley reported that in the straight RICORDO hung in and proved difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards sought an explanation from Apprentice K. Matheson for the performance of BEARTAX. App. Matheson stated that BEARTAX had been under pressure in the early part of the straight and in his opinion was very disappointing and, given the recent break from racing, its fitness may have affected its performance.
Race 2: Haymans “Now at Yeppoon” QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1100 metres
1st SHEZA FALVELON 2nd PRINCELY 3rd BAGABOB 4th - BONNY THE VIPER
Shortly after the start BAGABOB (J. Kropp) was steadied from the heels of IMMA BE (J. Stephens), which shifted in slightly.
In the early stages RARE FIND (N. Patchett) and BAGABOB (J. Kropp) over-raced.
In the early and middle stages IMMA BE (J. Stephens) raced keenly.
Near the 900 metres ULUI (T. O'Hara) improved up onto the heels of RARE FIND (N. Patchett) and had to be steadied.
Trainer A. Stephens reported that IMMA BE (J. Stephens) had lost a hind plate in running and that in her opinion the horse had been galloped on. A post-race veterinary examination of IMMA BE revealed that the horse had sustained small abrasions to the off hind leg.
Race 3: Schneider Class 3 Plate - 1200 metres
1st LIBERTY TYCOON 2nd GAMBLE IN GOLD 3rd KICKDAHABIT 4th - OUR MAIKAI
OUR MAIKAI (J. Innes) was slow to begin.
SHELDON (App. S. McCullum) began extremely awkwardly. App. McCullum reported that after beginning awkwardly he became unbalanced and the gelding lost further ground.
In the straight OUR MAIKAI (J. Innes) was inclined to lay in. Jockey Innes reported that he had difficulty riding the gelding out.
Stewards questioned Jockey T. Bannon regarding the apparent disappointing performance of HARVZEE. Jockey Bannon stated that she was obliged to race three wide throughout the event as the gelding failed to show its usual early speed and consequently was unable to lead as she had been instructed. Jockey Bannon added that HARVZEE was under pressure throughout and had yielded ground in the early part of the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it had grazed its off hind hock and was exhibiting a poor post-race recovery rate.
Race 4: Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Class 1 Handicap - 1500 metres
1st PHIL DOESN'T CARE 2nd - MALEATON 3rd MORTGAGE LIFTER 4th - CRAIGLEA CARINA
The start was delayed to allow for the broadcast of an international event.
Upon arriving at the barriers it was observed that PHIL DOESN'T CARE (J. Innes) had sprung a fore plate. The farrier was unable to refit the plate, and with the agreement of Jockey Innes, Stewards permitted the horse to race bare in front. Public announcements were made to that effect.
KYEEBI CASHEL (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages INTO THE DEEP (App. D. McWhinney) raced wide.
In the early stages PEGUNNY SPUR (J. Stanley) over-raced and raced wide until assuming the lead near the 1000 metres.
Stewards sought an explanation for the performance of PEGUNNY SPUR. Jockey J. Stanley stated that after assuming the lead the gelding settled well and when placed under pressure ran on only fairly. Jockey Stanley was of the view that the gelding may not have been suited by the 1500 metres of today's event at this stage of its preparation.
Jockey L. Dillon, the rider of CRAIGLEA CARINA, pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137A (3) in that he used his whip on the 2-Y-O filly in an excessive manner. Jockey Dillon was fined $300.
Jockey T. O'Hara reported that the saddle on KYEEBI CASHEL had slipped slightly during running.
Race 5: Clipsal Class 4 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st SPEEDSKATER 2nd LUCASAM 3rd PEGUNNY CAT 4th - SMOOTH DIAMOND
The start was delayed when BOSE (App. A. Hearn) proved difficult to load into the barriers.
LUCASAM (N. Patchett) was slow to begin.
As the start was effected TOY JET (App. A. Taylor) reared and lost some ground.
In the early stages SPEEDSKATER (App. K. Matheson) over-raced.
WEEKEND SHOPPER (J. Kropp) raced wide throughout.
From the 400 metres to the 200 metres LUCASAM (N. Patchett) had difficulty obtaining clear running.
Near the 100 metres TOY JET (App. A. Taylor) was steadied from the heels of PEGUNNY CAT (J. Stanley) when unable to secure a run to the outside of that horse.
Leaving the 100 metres BOSE (App. A. Hearn) was steadied away from the heels of SMOOTH DIAMOND (T. Bannon), which shifted in slightly when under pressure.
Apprentice A. Hearn was reprimanded under A.R. 137A (5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on BOSE in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metres.
Race 6: Emerald Service Centre QTIS 600 2YO Plate - 1050 metres
1st ROCKY KING 2nd SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND 3rd COAL COMMAND 4th - MS BA BELLA
CRAIGLEA TEQUILA (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.
At the start HIDDEN PRAYER (J. Kropp) jumped out and made contact with CRAIGLEA TURBO (T. Bannon).
From the 400 metres COAL COMMAND (J. Innes) was inclined to lay in. Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey Innes regarding his whip action at this stage of the race in that it appeared the colt may have been struck forward of the shoulder or on the neck. After taking evidence from Jockey Innes and viewing the patrol films, stewards advised Jockey Innes to use his whip in a manner that does not leave room for query.
MS BA BELLA (App. K. Matheson) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey J. Kropp as to the performance of HIDDEN PRAYER. Jockey Kropp stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position and lead, if possible. Jockey Kropp said that after beginning fairly he applied pressure to HIDDEN PRAYER in an endeavour to obtain a position outside the leader, at which stage the filly seemed reluctant to race in that position. Jockey Kropp added that HIDDEN PRAYER commenced to give ground from the 300 metres and he was of the opinion that the horse's fitness would benefit from the run.
A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA MODEL (J. Stanley) revealed that the filly had sustained a laceration to the off hind pastern. The filly was treated and connections will be advised that they must provide a veterinary clearance prior to CRAIGLEA MODEL being permitted to race again.
Race 7: Haymans Electrical Tattersall’s Gold Cup Open Handicap - 1600 metres
1st GOLD COAST GIRL 2nd DIAMONDCOWBOY 3rd WRITER 4th - KING OF THE NILE
Prior to the race connections advised stewards that OLD MATES ACT (S. Pawsey) would be ridden in a more handy position than at its previous starts. Public announcements were made to that effect, and the horse was ridden accordingly.
OUR BOY LUKAS (N. Patchett) and MARICOPA (J. Kropp) made contact at the start.
Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred near the 1300 metres. Jockey S. Sheargold was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that he used insufficient effort to prevent CANNYCLIMB from shifting inwards when insufficiently clear of RED STORY (App. C. Pye), which was taken in onto PRUSSIAN SECRET (M. McGuren), which was forced inwards onto CASH ATTACK (P. Cullen), which was checked and lost its rightful position in the field. Jockey Sheargold’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 2 Central Queensland race meetings, to commence from midnight 9th June 2012, up to and including Thursday 21st June 2012. In assessing penalty stewards took into account that these were major Central Queensland TAB race meetings.
RED STORY over-raced for a short distance after this incident.
Approaching the 500 metres OLD MATES ACT (S. Pawsey) shifted in slightly and at the same time PRUSSIAN SECRET (M. McGuren) shifted out, resulting in RED STORY (App. C. Pye) making contact with the hindquarters of OLD MATES ACT, which shifted in further and caused RED STORY to be inconvenienced. Appretice McGuren was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Apprentice McGuren reported that PRUSSIAN SECRET was inclined to lay out in the straight.
IL CARDINALE (App. D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.
When questioned about the performance of PRUSSIAN SECRET trainer C. Morgan stated that the horse’s performance may have been affected by the interruption to its preparation due to transport diffaculties. Stewards will follow-up on the post-race condition of PRUSSIAN SECRET.
Race 8: Thank You Haymans Customers Class 1 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st GLENDALE MAGIC 2nd DUNCAN 3rd MAGIC TURBO 4th - TOY WITH ME
Prior to the start, whilst loaded in the barriers, Jockey J. Stanley was dislodged from CLICK UP.
AFRICAN GEM (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.
HEZA BIG UNIT (G. Killen) was slow into stride.
CRAIGLEA STELLAR (L. Dillon) blundered on jumping.
Near the 250 metres GLENDALE MAGIC (J. Kropp) lay in, taking TRIBULATION (App. C. Pye) in and resulting in CRAIGLEA STELLAR having to be steadied when RASCAL (T. Bannon) shifted out under pressure and became unbalanced.
TRIBULATION (App. C. Pye) and CRAIGLEA STELLAR (L. Dillon) raced wide throughout.
Following the race it was noted that MORE SCOTCH (S. Sheargold) had bled from both nostrils. Trainer L. Challacombe was advised that, as this was the first occasion on which the horse had bled, it will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months under A.R. 53A.
