Rockhampton Jockey Club - Saturday- 9th June 2012

Race 7: Haymans Electrical Tattersall's Gold Cup Open Handicap - 1600 metres

Trainer C Morgan reported that PRUSSIAN SECRET had pulled up better than he had anticipated and he would proceed to the Rockhampton Cup with the gelding.

General

Apprentice C. Pye was fined $100 under AR 137A(2) for carrying an unapproved whip in track work on Tuesday 12th June 2012.

Stewards inquired into a report regarding M. Pearson riding trackwork at the Gladstone Turf Club on Monday, 14th May 2012. Trainer D. Schultz pleaded guilty to a charge under L.R. 43 in that he allowed an unlicensed person to ride horses trained by him in trackwork. Mr Schultz was fined $400. Mr M. Pearson pleaded guilty to a charge under L.R. 7(b) in that he rode trackwork whilst not the holder of an appropriate licence. Mr Pearson was fined $200.

Race 1: The Rock Building Society 3YO Maiden Handicap - 970 metres
1st SECRET SCENE 2nd CASTAWAY 3rd SAUKENUK 4th - BARCOLLA MAGIC

At the start BARCOLLA MAGIC (J. Stephens) stood flat-footed and was slow to begin.

CASTAWAY (J. Kropp) knuckled badly on jumping.

SAUKENUK (App. C. Pye) raced wide throughout.

Race 2: The Rock Building Society Class 3 Plate - 1050 metres
1st KISS THE GROOM 2nd EYE SEEN 3rd RED DASH 4th - CHARMINGLY

DUMUZI (N. Patchett) began awkwardly, then near the 900 metres improved up onto the heels of RED DASH (A. Coome) and was steadied. In the straight DUMUZI was inclined to lay in.

From the 200 metres RED DASH (A. Coome) was inclined to lay out under pressure.

Race 3: The Rock Building Society Benchmark 79 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st FALVADORE 2nd CANNY SWIM 3rd CARMENATOR 4th - FANCIFUL

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey T. O'Hara, the rider of CANNY SWIM which finished second, to view the patrol films to determine whether she would lodge an objection against FALVADORE (App. C. Pye) being declared the winner. After having done so, Jockey O'Hara elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared.

BILLIE BLUE GUM (J. Stephens) and PEGUNNY ROY (J. P. Stanley) began a little awkwardly.

CARMENATOR (A. Coome) was a little slow to begin.

Near the 600 metres FALVADORE (App. C. Pye) and CANNY SWIM (T. O'Hara) bumped.

Approaching the 450 metres FALVADORE (App. C. Pye) shifted out and made contact with CANNY SWIM (T. O'Hara).

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the riding tactics employed on BILLIE BLUE GUM. Jockey J Stephens stated that he was instructed to ride the mare along to take up a forward position, and to lead if possible, in accordance with the mare's previous racing pattern. Jockey Stephens added that BILLIE BLUE GUM raced with blinkers for the first time today and this may have contributed to the mare over-racing.

Jockey J. P. Stanley was afforded the opportunity to explain the disappointing performance of PEGUNNY ROY. Jockey Stanley stated that in the early stages he had been pressured to take up the lead and this may have been detrimental to the gelding's chances. Jockey Stanley said that PEGUNNY ROY had travelled well until near the 400 metres, but when placed under pressure failed to respond and from near the 200 metres the gelding commenced to yield ground. Jockey Stanley and trainer M. Tremble agreed that the gelding was having only its second start from a significant spell and had had a month between runs, which may have told on its performance. A post-race veterinary examination of PEGUNNY ROY revealed that the gelding was exhibiting a poor post-race recovery rate.

Race 4: The Rock Building Society Maiden Handicap - 1400 metres
1st REGAL SHREDDER 2nd PESAMINO 3rd RE ECHO 4th - A LITTLE BIT SASSY

QUIRT (J. Stephens) and EMOTIONALLY YOURS (J. P. Stanley) were slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages PRECIOUS LILLY (C. McIver) over-raced.

At the 800 metres MARDARE (L. Dillon) raced greenly, became unbalanced and struck the running rail.

ULUI (N. Patchett) and PRECIOUS LILLY (C. McIver) raced wide throughout.

Following the race trainer G. Philpot reported that MARDARE (L. Dillon) had sustained a laceration to its off side foreleg.

Race 5: The Rock Building Society Class 4 Handicap - 1833 metres
1st PANKRATOV 2nd DONOSTIA 3rd FLYBEFREE 4th - ANGEL FROM ABOVE

At the start JESTAROSSA (App. C. Pye) bounded in the air and in the early and middle stages was inclined to race keenly.

In the early and middle stages FEROCITY BLUE (J. Kropp) was inclined to throw its head about when being restrained.

From the 700 metres PANKRATOV (T. O'Hara) raced wide.

Race 6: The Rock Building Society Class 2 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st NEDERBURG 2nd VAIN DAZZLER 3rd CHEATIN' CHARLIE 4th - RED SAVANNAH

At the start, GEOCENTRIC (J. P. Stanley) bounded in the air and in the middle stages was inclined to over-race.

RED SAVANNAH (J. Kropp) began awkwardly.

In the middle stages RYTARGA (C. McIver) hung out.

JAMDIT (D. Whitmore) and OVER IN SECONDS (App A Taylor) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer D. Wright for the seemingly improved performance of NEDERBURG. Mr Wright was of the opinion that the horse's two most recent runs had been fair, as NEDERBURG had been unable to be ridden as instructed from inside barrier draws. Mr Wright had expected a forward showing today, given that from its outside barrier the gelding would appreciate being able to race to the outside of the field.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
