GENERAL:
At 10.10 a.m. the track rating was downgraded from Slow (6) to Slow (7). Following the running of Race 1 stewards downgraded the track further to Heavy (8) retrospective to that race.
LATE RIDING CHANGES:
When Jockey D. Simmons was unable to fulfil his engagements due to illness, the following substitutions were made: Race 1, Jockey D. Hayse to ride VICORAY; Race 4, App. D. McWhinney to ride COOLOWIE as no senior rider was available; Race 7, App. A. Kitson to ride LADY BULLMORE as no senior rider was available. Jockey Simmons was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.
Race 1: XXXX Gold QTIS 2YO Handicap - 1100 metres
1st MYTHOLOGIST 2nd JOKERMAN 3rd VICORAY 4th - CRAIGLEA KALBAR
NISEKO GOLD (N. Patchett) began awkwardly and lost some ground, then was further hampered when MIDNIGHT STALKER (J. P. Stanley) shifted out and tightened NISEKO GOLD between MIDNIGHT STALKER and MYTHOLOGIST (L. Dillon).
In the early stages ZABOMB (A. Coome) raced wide.
MIDNIGHT STALKER raced wide throughout.
Race 2: XXXX Summer Bright QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1200 metres
1st TURVANNA 2nd BUDDY ROCKS 3rd CRAIGLEA TEQUILA 4th - HOLD THAT THOUGHT
Due to the downgrading of the track conditions, stewards permitted the late withdrawal of PYGMY HUNTER at 10.31 a.m.
CRAIGLEA TEQUILA (App. T. Wolfgram) began awkwardly.
FERO HAY (T. Bannon) was slow to begin.
For a short distance leaving the 600 metres TURVANNA (D. Hayse) was held up and unable to gain clear running.
Race 3: XXXX Bitter Weight For Age- 1200 metres
1st DIAMOND PURSUIT 2nd BLAZE TO FORTUNE 3rd CRAIGLEA TINA 4th - CARRY THE CLUBS
BLAZE TO FORTUNE (App. K. Gates) was a little slow to begin.
From the entrance to the straight until near the 400 metres BLAZE TO FORTUNE (App. K. Gates) laid in and inconvenienced CARRY THE CLUBS (J. Stephens). App. Gates was shown the patrol film of the incident and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Jockeys J. P. Stanley, the rider of MARTIROS, and A. Pattillo, the rider of SO PRETENTIOUS, reported that their mounts failed to handle today's heavy track conditions.
Race 4: www.callaghanpark.com.au Maiden Plate - 1100 metres
1st AL GHAZI 2nd COOLOWIE 3rd CRYSTALS’N’PEARLS 4th - ME FAST TOO
A pre-race veterinary examination of JUST DAZZLER (App. A. Kitson), which was resuming after 12 months spell, did not reveal any abnormalities and the horse was cleared to take its place in the field.
SOFTLEA (T. Bannon) began awkwardly and shifted in onto AL GHAZI (App. T. Wolfgram), which lost ground.
ME FAST TOO (N. Patchett) began awkwardly.
Near the 300 metres ROUGH AND RECKLESS (L. Dillon) was steadied from the heels of TENT HUMOUR (App. C. Pye).
Over the concluding stages ULUI (T. O'Hara) was held up for clear running between ME FAST TOO (N. Patchett) and COOLOWIE (App. D. McWhinney).
Near the 200 metres ULUI (T. O'Hara) and COOLOWIE (App. D. McWhinney) dipped.
ME FAST TOO (N. Patchett) and RISANI (J. P. Stanley) raced wide throughout.
Jockey J. P. Stanley reported that RISANI had failed to handle today's heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was showing a slow post-race recovery rate.
Race 5: Callaghan Park, Luxurious, Rewarding BM 70 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st EMMA'S SONNET 2nd BALLROOM DANCE 3rd BONNY THE VIPER 4th - TONK
PEE JAY QUE (A. Coome) began awkwardly.
COUNTY SHERRIF (App. C. Pye), which had been standing awkwardly in the barriers, was slow to begin and shortly after the start bumped EMMA'S SONNET ((T. O'Hara).
Near the 900 metres DESPERATE WOMAN (T. Bannon) raced ungenerously for a short distance when being restrained.
In the middle stages COUNTY SHERRIF (App. C. Pye) laid out.
ZAHMAO (App K Gates) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Whatever Your Occasion, Callaghan Park Class 5 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st PICAWINNER 2nd PROSPECTOR BOB 3rd MISTABLISTA 4th - STREETFIRE
Trainer T. Hess was fined $100 under L.R. 67 for failing to declare App. T. Wolfgram as the rider for PICAWINNER by the prescribed time.
HONOUR JACKO (App. K. Gates) was slow to begin.
STREETFIRE (D. Hayse) pulled hard in the early and middle stages
Race 7: Prestigious Venues & Functions, Prestigious Callaghan Park Class 2 Handicap - 1600 metres
1st FRED ASTAIRE 2nd MCFERRIN 3rd SILVERZEN 4th - METALLIC GREY
App. S. McCullum, the rider of CORE HAYYLER, was reprimanded under A.R. 92 for failing to claim down to his full allowance. As no other riders were available at or closer to the allotted weight, App. McCullum was permitted to claim only 1kg of his 3kg allowance.
At the start SUITE ANNIE (N. Patchett) was taken outwards when FEROCITY BLUE (D. Hayse) shifted out and was tightened for room between FEROCITY BLUE and MCFERRIN (App.D. McWhinney).
HAYYLER'S HELL (L. Dillon) was a little slow to begin and shortly after the start was eased from the heels of CHECKER CHAMP (App. K. Gates), which shifted in.
SILVERZEN (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.
METALLIC GREY (T. Bannon) and LADY BULLMORE (App. A. Kitson) raced wide throughout.
App. S. McCullum was cautioned under A.R. 137A(4)(c) regarding his use of the whip on CORE HAYYLER when the horse was out of contention.
All winners were sent to be swabbed and post-race samples were also taken from NISEKO GOLD, BLAZE TO FORTUNE, BALLROOM DANCE and PROSPECTOR BOB.
