Race 2: River Junctions Racing Maiden Plate - 1300 metres

HARAKA ZULU (J. Babarovich) began awkwardly, resulting in Jockey Babarovich becoming unbalanced in the saddle.
Approaching the 900 metres ALOTTA MOJO (D. Evans) shifted in, causing WRONG NUMBER (D. Simmons) to be steadied, clip the heels of ALOTTA MOJO and to lose ground. Jockey D. Evans was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
At the 400 metres HAYYLER'S COURT (App. D. McWhinney) rolled out, taking HAPPY JONES (T. Bannon) out onto WRONG NUMBER (D. Simmons). At the same time BLACK BOOKER (App. A. Kitson) was held up on the heels of WRONG NUMBER and was shifted out to improve.
From leaving the 300 metres PROUD WARRIOR (App. C. Pye) was inclined to lay in.
PROUD WARRIOR (App. C. Pye), HARAKA ZULU (J. Babarovich) and HAYYLER'S COURT (App. D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.

WESTERN YORK (T. Bannon) was a little slow to begin.
SARSGHI (R. Thompson) bounded in the air at the start.
Near the 800 metres SARSGHI (T. Thompson) was steadied when STAKED EMOTION (M. Pegus) rolled in momentarily.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D. Evans in regard to his riding of CONSTANT CRAVING in the straight, in particular as to why he failed to take advantage of a run that presented itself to him over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from Jockey Evans, and viewing of the patrol films, stewards were of the opinion that he had erred by not taking advantage of a run that became available near the 150 metres, between CHEATIN' CHARLIE (App. D. McWhinney) and TRYSTA (D. Hayse), at which time he shifted out, and near the 100 metres a run that presented between TRYSTA and BAGABOB (App. S. McCullum) and Jockey Evans shifted out to obtain clear running. Stewards were mindful that Jockey Evans had been advised that the gelding was reluctant to race to the inside of other runners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that CONSTANT CRAVING was showing a poor post-race recovery rate. Jockey Evans' explanations were noted.
Race 5: Woods Tyres/ Barnham Racing/ Stewart Park Stud Capricornia 2YO Classic - 1200 metres
1st MYTHOLOGIST 2nd NISEKO GOLD 3rd JOKERMAN 4th - HIDDEN NATURE
When Jockey D. Whitmore was ill and unable to fulfil his engagement, permission was given for S. McGovern to be substituted as the rider of SPEEDY MARCELLO. Jockey Whitmore was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the acceptance and subsequent scratching of WILLIE'SCLOUDS and SOVEREIGN BELLE. Trainer M. Barnham explained that he had nominated and accepted at the same time with four runners in this event. Mr Barnham said, however, that SOVEREIGN BELLE had pulled up shin sore following its most recent start and had not recovered sufficiently to obtain a veterinary clearance, and that WILLIE'S CLOUDS had been injured in an incident on Wednesday last and was subsequently treated. Mr Barnham added that he had intended to withdraw both horses prior to acceptances but was of the mistaken belief that acceptances for this event closed on Thursday morning. Stewards inspected WILLIE'S CLOUDS at trainer Barnham's stables and noted that it had a significant laceration over the off side eye and a laceration to its near foreleg. Mr Barnham stated that it is his intention to now send both horses for a spell. Stewards were of the opinion that this error had not been malicious or in breach of the Rules and took no action. Confirmation of relevant nominations and acceptance will be sought from the Trainer Services Centre.
At the start SISU ABA (T. Bannon) shifted in at the start and lost some ground.
JOKERMAN (App. C. Pye) began awkwardly and shifted out onto HAYYLER'S DEVIL (R. Thompson). For a short distance after the start JOKERMAN (App. C. Pye) continued to lay out and made contact with HAYYLER'S DEVIL, which was taken outwards onto MISS BULL (J. Babarovich), which commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance.
SPEEDY MARCELLO (App. S. McGovern) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 900 metres HIDDEN NATURE (D. Hayse) was steadied from the heels of NISEKO GOLD (N. Patchett), shifted out and caused LORCAN (D. Evans) to race in restricted room and to be steadied, at which time JOKERMAN (App. C. Pye) commenced to over-race and also was forced to steady.
Leaving the 900 metres SPEEDY MARCELLO (App. S. McGovern) was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of HAYYLER'S DEVIL (T. Thompson), taking DISCO LEMONADE (D. Simmons) and GORDIE'S WISH (App. D. McWhinney) wider on the track.
DISCO LEMONADE (D. Simmons), ZAHA DREAM (M. Pegus), SPEEDY MARCELLO (App. S. McGovern) and HAYYLER'S DEVIL (R. Thompson) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of SISU ABA (T. Bannon) revealed that the filly had pulled an off hind muscle. SISU ABA was treated by the veterinary surgeon. Trainer S. Rundle will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the filly being permitted to race again.
Jockey L. Dillon was reminded of his obligation not to come into contact with other persons prior to weighing in.
Race 6: XXXX Gold Class 1 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st HARDCOVER 2nd HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS 3rd ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH 4th - AFLEET ASSASSIN
Prior to the declaration of correct weight trainer K. Miller and App. C. Pye viewed the official patrol films with a view to having AMANDA'S DREAM declared a non-runner on the grounds that the mare had been denied a fair start. Having viewed the available videos stewards considered the application, however they were of the opinion that the rear barrier gate of AMANDA'S DREAM's barrier stall had been closed at the time the start was effected and that, due to the horse's action of rearing it had been unable to begin with the field. Accordingly, stewards found that the mare had not been denied a fair start and subsequently declared AMANDA'S DREAM a runner. Mr Miller was advised that he must provide a further barrier certificate prior to the horse having its next race start.
CRAIGLEA STELLAR (App. D. McWhinney) began awkwardly.
AFLEET ASSASSIN (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.
At the start ROCKETMOUNTAIN HIGH (T. Bannon) shifted in and made contact with HARDCOVER (App. A. Kitson).
From near the 500 metres until near the 400 metres HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS (T. Thompson) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
WOODEN EYE JOE (D. Simmons) and CRAIGLEA STELLAR (App. D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.
