Jockey S. Pawsey, the rider of ELEMENT OF CHANCE, was questioned as to the disappointing performance of the colt. Jockey Pawsey stated that prior to leaving Cairns ELEMENT OF CHANCE had worked well leading into today's event and he could offer no reasonable excuse for the performance, other than that the colt may have been better suited over a longer distance than today's event. A post-race veterinary examination of ELEMENT OF CHANCE revealed that the colt had sustained a laceration to the off hock.
A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA IVY revealed that the filly was showing signs of tying up.

In the early stages VICTORY HOTEL over-raced.
When questioned as to his riding of VICTORY HOTEL, Jockey C.
