Race 1: Milner Constructions QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres
1st Best Hurraah 2nd Serene Saga 3rd Yours Truthfully 4th- Craiglea Mission
The explanation from trainer G. Philpot for the late declaration of D. Evans as the rider of I'M IMPULSIVE, was accepted.
Trainer J. Pointon was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for GOLDEN MAR by the prescribed time.
On arrival at the barriers, D. Hayse was dislodged harmlessly from BEST HURRAH.
GOLDEN MAR (S. McGovern) began awkwardly.
MURTASKILL (C. Pye) was slow to begin.
ESSO EYE (K. Gates) was tightened for room at the start between (R. McMahon) and BEST HURRAH, both of which shifted ground.
I LOVE KANDE (M. McGillivray) began awkwardly and had to be steadied from the heels of PAINT US A PICTURE (B. Appo).
Near the 900m, YOURS TRUTHFULLY (A. Allen) became awkward and unbalanced when racing to the inside of COUNTING TIME (J. Stephens).
LOOKSLIKERAIN (T. O'Hara) and I'M IMPULSIVE (D. Evans) raced wide throughout.
S. McGovern, rider of GOLDEN MAR, was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times in a forehand manned prior the 100m. In considering penalty, stewards considered S. McGovern's exemplary record regarding breaches of this rule.
When questioned regarding the performance of CASH FOR MURTAL, S. Sheargold stated it was the intention to ride the filly back in the field from the wide barrier, however the horse did not travel well in the early stages, which he attributed to the rain affected track. He added however in the straight, CASH FOR MURTAL found the line well. Stewards will interview trainer K. Hansen regarding the performance.
A post race veterinary examination of YOURS TRUTHFULLY revealed a laceration to the off hind canon, and the gelding was treated by the veterinary surgeon.
Race 2: Inferno Sports Class 2 Plate – 1800 metres
1st Seen A Host 2nd Savasha 3rd Cherishthethought 4th- Bedrock Betty
The start was delayed until the completion of an interstate trotting event.
RIVER OF DREAMS (C. McIver) was a little slow to begin.
FICKLE BUSINESS (S. McGovern) began awkwardly.
ELDOSHAR (A. Coome), which usually races in a midfield to back position, was caught wide in early stages and the rider elected to improve forward to take up a position outside the leader.
Race 3: Cardno Roadtest Handicap - 1400 metres
1st Vandalised 2nd Payteevee 3rd El Supremo 4th- Craiglea Falson
The start was delayed after SATCH (M. McGillivray) got its leg up on the barrier partition. SATCH was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
MORE MORE MORE (A. Allen) and PAYTEEVEE (D. Evans) were slow to begin.
PAYTEEVEE raced wide in the early stages and improved forward to lead.
For a short distance near the 1000m, EL SUPREMO (A. Coome) over raced and was steadied from the heels of VANDALISED (B. Stewart).
CRAIGLEA FALCON (B. Appo) and DEVON (D. Hayse) bumped over the concluding stages.
Race 4: Tony Madden Architects C, G & E Maiden Hcp - 1200 metres
1st Hillcrest 2nd Thunda Cookie 3rd What A Star 4th- Grand Hotel
Stewards questioned apprentice A. Allen regarding his dual engagement on KOKO CLANG and GRAND HOTEL. In the circumstances, A. Allen's explanation was accepted. J. Stephens was substituted as the rider of KOKO CLANG.
Connections were advised that a further warning would be placed on GRAND HOTEL regarding its manners in the enclosure and during the preliminary.
HILLCREST, which jumped in the air at the start, began awkwardly and got its head up, losing ground.
HEZA BIT HISSY (D. Hayse) was slow to begin.
AUSTANA (T. O'Hara) and DEL DE AIR (S. Sheargold) raced wide for the majority of the race.
M. McGillivray reported that after THUNDA COOKIE did not begin well, he gave the gelding time to balance up. He added however THUNDA COOKIE then hung in on occasions throughout.
Race 5: PKF Lawler Hacketts Benchmark 60 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st Edgerol Dixie 2nd Victomte 3rd Outback Fighter 4th- Berrybear
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards became aware that FLAG FAVOURITE (B. Stewart) and EDGEROI DIXIE (A. Coome) had started from the incorrect barriers. Stewards assessed that this had not affected the finishing positions of both runners and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge's placings. Subsequently, B. Stewart, rider of FLAG FAVOURITE, and A. Coome, rider of EDGEROI DIXIE, were each fined $100 under AR175(k) for negligence which led to a breach of Rule AR128(1). Stewards will furnish a report regarding starting issues to the Rockhampton Jockey Club and Racing Queensland.
BERRYBEAR (A. Allen) began awkwardly.
ZABEELZEBUB (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.
FLAG FAVOURITE (B. Stewart) laid in from the 400m.
EDGEROI DIXIE (A. Coome) shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
When questioned regarding the performance of FLAG FAVOURITE, B. Stewart stated the mare gained a reasonable run throughout, however after shifting wider on straightening as instructed, FLAG FAVOURITE failed to run on as expected.
Race 6: The Capricornia Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap – 1050 metres
1st Born To Survive 2nd Decadent 3rd Apache Sox 4th- Kung Fu Kitty
The start was delayed when CLAIR DU MONDE (J. Stephens) proved difficult to load. Trainer A. Stephens was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required for CLAIR DU MONDE prior to its next race start. Mrs Stephens advised that CLAIR DU MONDE may leave her stable.
JESSETTE (B. Appo) and DORSAL FIN (R. McMahon) came together at the start.
PEEKING LUCK (A. Coome), which was laying on the side of the barriers, jumped inwards at the start and made contact with the barrier partition.
BORN TO SURVIVE (S. McGovern) and CLAIR DU MONDE raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Prime Properties Benchmark 70 Handicap – 1100 metres
1st Plum Bob 2nd Shadowofyoursmile 3rd Princely 4th- Mt Ziggaro
Apprentice B Appo was dislodged from EMOTIONALLY YOURS during its preliminary. On being re-captured, the mare underwent a veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. This incident was relayed to the on-course announcer.
YOU'RE MINE (S. Sheargold) was slow to begin.
