RACE 1: XXXX GOLD CLASS B H’CAP 1000M–
1st –Legal Fee 2nd –Cawdor Tony 3rd –Grey Skye 4th –Superstar Girl
Stewards permitted jockey C Bryen to ride CLEA LAVEE 1kg overweight as there was no other rider available.
TAIMTEER (W Cook) over raced early and middle stages of the event.
CAWDOR TONY (R Cox) and SUPERSTAR GIRL (L McCoy) raced wide for the majority of the event.
CAWDOR TONY shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 2: LADIES DAY CLASS 3 H'CAP 1000M–
1st -Getamoveon 2nd –Beguiling Star 3rd -Emdayl 4th -Olanal
GETAMOVEON (S Sweedman) blundered badly on jumping away losing ground.
OLANAL (Z Landry) was hampered at the start between GETAMOVEON and SEDAN (J Warrington) which shifted in.
GETAMOVEON over raced during the early and middle stages.
BEGUILING STAR (W Glass) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MILIARDO jockey L McCoy stated that the gelding’s travelled well in the run however when asked for an effort it failed to respond to her riding. Trainer A Donnelly stated the gelding worked well in the lead up to the race and could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. Stewards noted both explanations.
RACE 3: ZONTA MAIDEN PLATE 1200M–
1st –Super Samaurai 2nd -Mccaskell 3rd -Dourado 4th -Decarazi
SMARTY HEARTY (W Glass) and DECARAZI (J Warrington) were both hampered at the start between MCCASKELL (S Sweedman) which jumped out and SEVEN OVERTONES (Z Landry) which jumped in.
SEVEN OVERTONES was slow to begin.
DOURADO (R Cox) raced wide during the early and middle stages.
RACE 4: ROMA VILLA OPEN H’CAP 1200M –
1st -Demolir 2nd –Pedro’s Amaizing 3rd –Major Boyington 4th- Chief Inspector
As C Bryen was to be overweight he was replaced as the rider of DEMOLIR by B Thomson. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards fined jockey Bryen $200 for accepting rides when overweight in race 1 as the rider CLEA LAVEE and race 4 DEMOLIR. B Thomson was replaced as the rider of DEMOLIR
DEMOLIR (B Thomson) commenced to hang out shortly after the start until a point near the 900m.
Stewards questioned jockey W Cook and trainer S Burns in regards to the disappointing performance of ROLLAR DRUM. Jockey Cook stated that the gelding never travelled in the run, was always under pressure and as such the gelding proved disappointing. Trainer S Burns stated whilst the gelding had raced in open company before this was the geldings first race against seasoned open company performers and as such he felt ROLLAR DRUM may not have been out classed by the other runners. A post race Veterinary examination of ROLLAR DRUM failed to reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 5: RBS MORGANS CLASS 6 H’CAP 1640M
App. S Sweedman was examined by the on course ambulance officers following the running of race 4 and was stood down from his final engagement in race 5. App. Sweedman was advised that he would be required to obtain a medical certificate prior to next riding. E Wilson was replaced as the rider of SPILT MILK.
Due to a mechanical malfunction, the barriers were unable to be fully removed from the racing surface at there starting position near the 200m in the home straight. All runners were able to safely negotiate themselves around the barriers however all runners were inconvenienced to various degrees. As a result Stewards acting under the provisions of Australian Rule of Racing 139 declared the event a no race. Stewards further ordered that all monies invested with bookmakers be refunded.
App E Wilson pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under Ar175q in that after passing the winning post following the running of Race 5 she did use foul language in ear shot of the general public. App. Wilson was fined $100. In considering penalty Stewards considered the circumstances surrounding App Wilson’s conduct and her previously good record in relation to this rule.
