Race 1: Megalec Maiden Plate – 1600m
1st – Articulation 2nd – Lord Benson 3rd – Barako 4th – Brilliant Ween
Trainer M. Palmer was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for LORD BENSON by the prescribed time.
BERNINA (K. Wharton) and BARAKO (D. Evans) were slow into stride.
HEARWEARE (C. Spry) and COMMAND SUCCESS raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the first turn shortly after the start, COMMAND SUCCESS (J. Piper) and BRILLIANT WEEN (E. Wilkinson) were tightened for room between FREAKISH (R. McMahon) and HEARWEARE (C. Spry), which shifted out.
STARSKY (M. Radecker) raced wide in the middle stages.
Stewards questioned trainer B. Baldwin regarding his instructions to apprentice J. Moon on ORNITHORHYNCHUS, which settled and raced some distance from the remainder of the field. Mr Baldwin stated that his instructions to apprentice Moon were not to bustle the gelding and allow it to race where it was comfortable. He added that in hindsight, apprentice moon may have overdone his instructions by allowing the horse to get further back than anticipated at the rear of the field. Mr Baldwin agreed with stewards that apprentice Moon’s riding was not up to the standard required for a provincial meeting and undertook to restrict his riding to country areas at this stage.
Race 2: Mansell Bulk Haulage Maiden H’cap - 1100m
1st – Clickgotheshears 2nd – Sally Jo 3rd – Miss Windy Weepu 4th – Moon Lady
SALLY JO (M. Morris) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with AMAZING TOM (G. Auckram).
TIGER TERRIFIC (K. Cunningham) blundered after the start and lost ground, and then commenced to race greenly throughout. Trainer I. Laing was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its racing manners.
Passing the 400m, RAINING KINGS (O. Turpin) ran on to the heels of AMAIZING TOM (G. Auckram) and had to be steadied and shifted in to obtain clear running.
RAINING KINGS was held up over the concluding stages and unable to obtain clear running.
CLICKGOTHESHEARS (S. Holcombe) was inclined to hang in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SCHUEY (P. Wolfgram) and WORKSFORME (K. Wharton) were obliged to race wide throughout.
Race 3: Seapointe Homes QTIS 2yo H’cap - 1000m
1st – Kirra Lyn 2nd – Questionheir 3rd – Hawkeye Pierce 4th – Monashee Gold
KUWANI MOCHA (N. Thomas) and TRAIL OF SECRETS (J. Byrne) were crowded for room on jumping away between QUESTIONHEIR (B. Pengelly) and CHILLME (R. McMahon), which shifted out.
Passing the 800m, KIRRA LYN (J. Brown) had to be steadied when crowded for room by JOLEKA DANCER (K. Wharton), which shifted in when not clear. K. Wharton, rider of JOLEKA DANCER, was advised to exercise more care.
KIRRA LYN was held up for a short distance near the 450m.
Near the 200m, TRAIL OF SECRETS had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between QUESTIONHEIR and SATURN FIVE (E. Wilkinson).
SATURN FIVE (E. Wilkinson) and MONASHEE GOLD (A. Winfield) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Bundilla Dry Cleaners Class 3 Plate - 1600m
1st – Better Jetsetter 2nd – Davion 3rd – King’s Crusade 4th – Commander Love
Apprentice A. Winfield was examined by the club’s doctor following race 3 and was stood down from her remaining ride in this event. Apprentice J. Piper was substituted as the rider of COMMANDER LOVE.
RED TULIP (M. Speers) was slow to begin.
DAVION (R. McMahon) raced keenly for some distance in the middle stages, and on straightening was held up for a short distance.
COMMANDER LOVE (J. Piper) was inclined to hang in under pressure in the straight.
COMMANDER LOVE raced wide throughout.
Race 5: David Peoples Racing Lodge Class 1 H’cap - 1400 m
1st – Bored 2nd – Miss Cabriolet 3rd – Logie 4th – Double Glow
SYNDICATE ROAD (S. Drake) was crowded on jumping away between GREY SATYR (N. Thomas), which faltered at the start, and KALINGA ERA (E. Wilkinson), which shifted out.
SYNDICATE ROAD (S. Drake) brushed the rail at the 800m.
CANYOUHEARTHEBELL (R. McMahon) hung out rounding the home turn, taking HILLSONG (J. Byrne) wider.
DOUBLE GLOW (K. Wharton) and BUDDY AWESOME (J. Piper) raced wide throughout.
The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that HILLSONG had been galloped on on the off hind leg, overreached on the off foreleg, and had a slower than normal recovery rate.
B. El-Issa was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
Race 6: Bi-Rite Electrical Caloundra Class 6 Plate - 1100m
1st – Cardio 2nd – Bitabiff 3rd – Aadelaidee 4th – A Little Dabl Doya
COGNISANT (K. Wharton) was crowded for room on jumping away between A LITTLE DABL DOYA (N. Thomas) and SONIC PEAK (S. Holcombe), which shifted in.
Passing the 300m, FINAL CRUNCH (S. Drake) hung in under pressure and crowded SONIC PEAK (S. Holcombe) on to MOSSTANG (P. Wolfgram).
Near the 200m, FINAL CRUNCH was tightened for room between SONIC PEAK (S. Holcombe) and COGNISANT (K. Wharton), which shifted in.
YOUNG LION (J. Piper) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Superlift Open H’cap - 2000m
1st – Devastating 2nd – King Latarmiss 3rd – The Sportsman 4th – Nellie Got There
CAP RIVIERA (J. Holder) was slow to begin.
DAWN’S PRIDE got its head up and raced keenly for a short distance passing the winning post on the first occasion.
THE SPORTSMAN (S. Seamer) raced wide in the early stages.
CEEJAY (G. Auckram) overraced in the middle stages.
LEEBREARNE broke down in near fore sesamoid near the 550m and was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
BOTERO (E. Wilkinson) broke down in the off foreleg and was eased out of the race leaving the 200m. Trainer L. Brazier was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for BOTERO prior to its next race start.
When questioned, trainer T. Joseph could offer no tangible reason for the poor performance of DAWN’S PRIDE, and advised that it was his intention to send the gelding for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of DAWN’S PRIDE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8: Kawana Bowls N Recreation Club Class 1 H’cap - 1100m
1st – Liddy Rules 2nd – Wonkavator 3rd – Willyclang 4th – Aqua Calda
QUILL (M. Morris) and LIDDY RULES (C. Reith) missed the start.
HANDSHAKE (E. Wilkinson) was slow into stride.
TELEBRON GOLD (C. Spry) raced keenly for some distance in the middle stages.
QUILL (M. Morris) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.
ONLYMONEYHONEY (M. Radecker), BLUE FREEZE (K. Wharton) and CANEFLY (G. Auckram) raced wide throughout.
