Race 1: Tradesure QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate - 1000m
1st – Bevagna 2nd – Craiglea Hummer 3rd – Keepthelabel 4th – Andy Said
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer R. Heathcote for the late declaration of rider for TAKE COVER.
The starting time for this race was delayed when ANDY SAID, KEEPTHELABEL, APRIL FOLLY and BEVAGNA all proved difficult to load. Connections were advised that warnings would be placed on these horses regarding their barrier manners.
GUMPERT (J. Brown) was slow to begin.
WHOWANTSONE (N. Thomas) jumped away awkwardly, making contact with KEEPTHELABEL (K. Cunningham).
TAKE COVER attempted to buck shortly after the start. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that a warning was being placed on the colt regarding its racing manners.
ANDY SAID (D. Browne), GUMPERT and APRIL FOLLY (J. Murphy) raced wide throughout.
Apprentice jockey J. Brown, rider of GUMPERT, was found guilty of a charge under AR137A(1), in that between the 400m and 200m she used her whip in an excessive manner on a horse out of contention. J. Brown was fined $100.
Jockey J. Murphy, rider of APRIL FOLLY, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(1), in that from the 400m onwards in the straight she used her whip in an excessive manner on a horse out of contention. J. Murphy was fined $300.
A post-race veterinary examination of TANELLI, which compounded badly in the straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that FLAGSHIP pulled up sore in the off foreleg. Trainer M. Webb was advised the he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for FLAGSHIP.
Stewards inquired into the reason why ANDY SAID was originally placed 3rd and KEEP THE LABEL 4th. After taking evidence from the Judge and Assistant Judge, it was established that due to a misinterpretation of the photo-finish image, the wrong number was semaphored, however this problem was quickly rectified and correct weight was given on the numbers: 9 – 2 – 5 – 1.
Race 2: Wurtulla Electrical Systems Pty Ltd Class 1 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Martha’s Vineyard 2nd – Strongly 3rd – Godly 4th – Craiglea Chevy
Stewards inquired into the reason for apprentice J. Piper being dually engaged on DESERT FORCE and GODLY. Subsequently, J. Piper was fined the sum of $100 for accepting two engagements in this race.
GODLY (J. Kropp) was slowly into stride.
SAMSOON (A. Badger) slow to begin.
Leaving the 800m, CRAIGLEA CHEVY (N. Thomas), which commenced to overrace, had to be checked when tightened for room by MARTHA’S VINEYARD (D. Browne), which shifted in. KALMAN (J. Brown), which was following, was also forced to steady to avoid the heels of CRAIGLEA CHEVY. D. Brown, rider of MARTHA’S VINEYARD, was reprimanded.
GODLY (J. Kropp) shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m.
SECRET REQUEST (N. Evans), GENERAL IGLESIA (M. Abe) and SAMSOON (A. Badger) raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Paint Place Group Of Stores – Beerwah, Maleny & Noosa Class 4 H'cap - 1100m
1st – Heza Flashman 2nd – Silva Razz 3rd – She’s Got Game 4th – Foxie Em
On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Piper, rider of the 4th placegetter, FOXIE EM, against SHE’S GOT GAME being declared 3rd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol video, stewards could not be satisfied that the ground lost in the incident warranted a reversal of placings and therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. At a subsequent inquiry, M. Heagney, rider of SHE’S GOT GAME, was charged with careless riding, in that he failed to stop riding and straighten his mount when it shifted out approaching the 150m when insufficiently clear of FOXIE EM, resulting in FOXIE EM having to be checked and shift in across the heels of SHE’S GOT GAME. After being charged, M. Heagney was granted an adjournment to allow Mr D.K. Munce, the trainer of SHE’S GOT GAME, to be present.
CASA CARDOSO (J. Kropp) and HEZA FLASHMAN (A. Best) were both slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, HEZA FLASHMAN (A. Best) was forced to steady when tightened for room between KEY TO HAPPINESS (D. Browne), which shifted out, and CASA CARDOSO, which was taken in by CRAIGLEA SYMPHONY (A. Badger), which shifted in and away from WING SONG (K. Cunningham).
SHE’S GOT GAME (M. Heagney) was inclined to hang out throughout the race.
CRAIGLEA SYMPHONY (A. Badger) and CASA CARDOSO (J. Kropp) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of KEY TO HAPPINESS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 4: Ucango Travel-Caring For Izaak Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
1st –Wooroorooka 2nd –Spirto Gentil 3rd –Black Dakota 4th –Red Tsar
Stewards will interview trainer T. Hall regarding the late scratching of PULL THE WOOL at 8.24 am.
NONNA MIA (J. Kropp) and WOOROOROOKA (A. Best) were slow to begin.
When the pace slackened approaching the 1200m, CHRISTI’S IDOL (N. Thomas) commenced to overrace and lost ground. NONNA MIA, which was following, was also forced to steady from that gelding’s heels.
BLACK DAKOTA (K. Yoshida) commenced to overrace leaving the 1100m and continued to do so until a point leaving the 800m when steadied from the heels of FRANCISCAN FRIAR (D. Gill) and shifted in, momentarily tightening the running of WOOROOROOKA (A. Best), which had to be steadied.
Near the 250m, BLACK DAKOTA shifted in, resulting in FRANCISCAN FRIAR (D. Gill) having to be steadied.
Approaching the 100m, CHEAPSKATERUBI (W. Clasohm) was disappointed for a run between SPIRTO GENTIL (D. Browne) and RED TSAR (A. Badger), which shifted out under pressure. RED TSAR continued to shift out and made contact with SPIRTO GENTIL. A. Badger, rider of RED TSAR, was advised to exercise more care in future.
CRISTI’S IDOL (N. Thomas), WATERFORD SPRINGS (K. Cunningham) and SPIRTO GENTIL (D. Browne) raced wide throughout.
Race 5: Team Godwin – Ray White Mooloolaba Maiden 3yo & Up H'CAP - 1100m
1st – Nobby’s Mate 2nd – Aludra 3rd – Over The Page 4th – Maali
Trainer L. Brazier was fined $100 for incorrectly presenting ADMIRAL SEA with blinkers.
ZAHARIAN DOLL (D. Gill) and STRAWBERRY DAQUIRI (M. Abe) were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, ZAHARIAN DOLL (D. Gill) improved to the inside of STRAWBERRY DAQUIRI and had to be steadied when STRAWBERRY DAQUIRI shifted back in.
Near the 800m, STRAWBERRY DAQUIRI commenced to overrace on the heels of OVER THE PAGE (J. Murphy) and as a result had to be steadied and shifted out, causing ADMIRAL SEA (J. Piper) to be inconvenienced.
Passing the 500m, TOP RESOURCE (R. Faehr) improved on to the heels of the tiring TENNIS BRACELET (R. Hancock) and had to be checked.
Leaving the 400m, ZAHARIAN DOLL (D. Gill) had difficulty obtaining clear running.
TENNIS BRACELET (R. Hancock), MAALI (M. Heagney) and TOP RESOURCE all raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Officeworks Class 3 H'cap - 2000m
1st – Worthy Quest 2nd – Beau Sam 3rd – Twinkling Star 4th – Party Ritz
An inquiry was opened into the running and handling of BRILLIANT WEEN. After evidence was taken from apprentice S. Holcombe, rider of BRILLIANT WEEN, and trainer P. Facoory, trainer of that gelding, the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed . A post-race veterinary examination of BRILLIANT WEEN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
BRILLIANT WEEN (S. Holcombe) jumped away awkwardly.
LOOKSLIKEKEVIN (N. Evans) was slow to begin.
BRILLIANT WEEN (S. Holcombe) raced wide from passing the winning post on the first occasion until nearing the 1200m.
