From SCTC, 28.2.09 – Race 4
Trainer T. Hall was fined $300 under LR71 for failing to scratch PULL THE WOOL by the prescribed time. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that Mr Hall’s actions had cost another horse a start, and also that Mr Hall had not contravened this rule previously.

As J. Piper and I. Coombes were injured, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

App. Jockey J. Piper pleaded guilty to a charge of dishonesty under AR175(a), in that she falsely advised Mr P. Gillard as to the reason why she was unable to fulfil her engagements at the Esk race meeting today. Apprentice Piper was fined the sum of $200. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account Miss Piper’s frankness during this inquiry.


Race 1: Bundilla Pest Control & Carpet Cleaning Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Star Of Palazzo 2nd – Gold Land 3rd – Bibiana 4th - Justoutaskool

BRAMBLE BAY (G. Butler) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, SLIPPERY LOOKS (R. Mason) was tightened for room and had to be checked when racing between MIDNIGHT PASSION (B. Payne), which shifted out, and STAR OF PALAZZO (N. Thomas), which shifted in and away from QUEEN OF THE STORM (D. Gill). Jockey B. Payne, rider of MIDNIGHT PASSION, was reprimanded for this incident.

Approaching the 800m, OPTIMIST PRIME (A. Badger) commenced to overrace and and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of QUEEN OF THE STORM.

Near the 500m, SLIPPERY LOOKS (R. Mason) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OPTIMIST PRIME (A. Badger), which shifted in.

VANESCA (A. Erhart) raced wide throughout.

STAR OF PALAZZO lost its near fore plate in running.

MIDNIGHT PASSION lost its off fore plate in running.


Race 2: Corporate Home Unit Underwriting Agencies 3yo & Up Plate - 1400m
1st – Lapetus 2nd –Professor 3rd –Kingaroo 4th –Rumpapumpum

KINGAROO (J. Letherby) was tightened for room and had to be checked at the start between LEPETUS (N. Thomas) and PROFESSOR (A. Best), which was taken out by BELLA PRINCIPESSA (R. Mason), which jumped away awkwardly.

PROFESSOR (A. Best) overraced during the middle stages.

Near the 500m, CHARLI MULAN (A. Merritt) improved up on to the heels of the tiring COUNT FERGUS (A. Badger), which raced wide throughout, and had to be checked.

Leaving the 200m, SLIP UP had to be steadied when tightened for room between PROFESSOR, which shifted in, and RUMPAPUMPUM (A. Erhart), which shifted out.

PROFESSOR was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

SLIP UP (B. Payne) raced wide throughout.


Race 3: Corporate Home Unit Underwriting Agencies 3yo & Up Plate - 1400m
1st – Bloomin Thunder 2nd – Nobbys Mate 3rd –Don Carmello 4th –Glasgow Town

NOBBY’S MATE (A. Best) was slow to begin.

PRUSSIAN LASS (W. Clasohm) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

CRAIGLEA RUBY (M. Speers) was hampered on jumping away by LA BELLASHEE (G. Butler), which jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, JEDI STARFIGHTER (A. Badger) was tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between SOUL KING (A. Erhart) and CRAIGLEA RUBY, which was taken out by LA BELLASHEE.

GLASGOW TOWN (J. Letherby), CRAIGLEA RUBY (M. Speers) and SOUL KING (A. Erhart) raced wide throughout.

PRUSSIAN LASS (W. Clasohm) lost its near fore plate in running.

A post-race veterinary examination of JEDI STARFIGHTER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CRAIGLEA RUBY, apprentice M. Speers stated that the mare travelled well despite being forced to race wide, however when placed under pressure near the 400m, CRAIGLEA RUBY failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer P. Fleming was unable to offer any excuses for the performance other than, in his opinion, the mare was showing signs of coming into season. Mr Fleming undertook to report back to stewards the results of a blood test to be taken from CRAIGLEA RUBY on Monday. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA RUBY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 4: Millennium3 Financial Services Pty Ltd Class 1 H'cap - 1100m
1st – My Whippy 2nd – Detected 3rd – Craiglea Chevy 4th – Classic Reward

HAPPY SALIERI (G. Butler) was slow to begin.

DETECTED (B. Payne) jumped away awkwardly.

HAPPY SALIERI raced wide throughout and shifted wider leaving the 600m.

CRAIGLEA CHEVY (M. Speers) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MUDDY MILLIE, jockey A. Erhart stated that after racing well in a forward position, the horse was under pressure from the 600m and commenced to hang out. A post-race veterinary examination of MUDDY MILLIE revealed the mare to be sore in the near fore fetlock. Trainer A. Nutley was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for MUDDY MILLIE prior to its next race start.

Race 5: KB Consultants Class 6 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Carry On Doctor 2nd – Major boyington 3rd – Onion 4th – Prince Lionheart

Stewards accepted the explanation for jockey E. Wilkinson’s failure to fulfil his engagement on CARRY ON DOCTOR.

ONION (M. Speers) was slow to begin.

Race 6: Fabulous Furnishing Formats QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate - 1100m
1st – Easy Play 2nd –Rock Our World 3rd –Over The Page 4th –Grey Mark

REAL GOOD THING (A. Merritt), CRAIGLEA PRADO (M. Speers) and EASY PLAY (M. Palmer) were slow to begin.

ROCK OUR WORLD (E. Wilkinson), REAL GOOD THING (A. Merritt) and BASALTIC BANNE (B. Payne) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA PRADO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 7: KBW Community Management Class 3 H'cap - 1600m
