Due to heavy overnight rain, the meeting has been transferred to the cushion track. As a consequence the following race distances were amended to: Race 1. 2200m to 2150m; Race 4. 1300m to 1400m; Race 5. 1300m to 1400m; Race 6. 1300m to 1400m; Race 7. 1200m to 1100m; Race 8. 1200m to 1100m.

Race 1: Phase Developments Class 2 H'cap – 2150m
1st – Craic Of Magic 2nd – Divine Cash 3rd – Real World 4th – Island Tycoon

REAL WORLD (Matthew Palmer) was slow to begin.

VITAL ORGAN (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey N. Thomas and trainer J. McLachlan regarding the poor performance of RUSTY TRAWLER. Jockey Thomas could offer no explanation other than to say that the horse overraced during the early and middle stages and that this may have affected the overall performance of RUSTY TRAWLER. He stated that after leaving the 800m he felt that his mount was under pressure and failed to run on from that point onwards. Trainer J. McLachlan explained that, in his opinion, RUSTY TRAWLER is more suited to racing on the grass surface, however in light of today’s performance he would consider a brief let up for the horse, and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which becomes apparent that may have had a bearing on today's performance.

Trainer L. Birchley and jockey G. Colless were afforded the opportunity of explaining the disappointing performance of VITAL ORGAN. G. Colless stated that whilst the horse overraced for a short distance on the turn into the back straight, it then relaxed and travelled well until a point near the 800m, at which stage it was under pressure. G. Colless added from that point onwards he was forced to ride the horse aggressively in order to maintain a position, however on entering the home straight the horse commenced to lay in and tire quite badly. Trainer L. Birchley stated that whilst VITAL ORGAN had missed some work subsequent to its previous run he was satisfied with its work leading into today’s event. He added that he intended to step the horse up in distance as its breeding indicates that it will stay, however he was unsure, particularly after today’s performance, if the horse is capable of running out a strong 2150m. A post-race veterinary examination of VITAL ORGAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 2: Brisbane Calibration QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1000m
1st – Saraji 2nd – Saraji 3rd – Private Chat 4th – Leealan

K. Wharton, rider of SARAJI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that shortly after the start he allowed his mount to shift in whilst being ridden along, which resulted in LEEALAN (B. Wallace) having to be checked. K. Wharton was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 22 May and to expire at midnight, 2 June.

ACCELERO commenced to hang out from the 800m, which resulted in LEEALAN (B. Wallace) being taken extremely wide on the track until approaching the 600m. ACCELERO continued to race wide for the remainder of the event. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that ACCELERO must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of ACCELERO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

LEEALAN (B. Wallace) improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be steadied.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey E. Wilkinson regarding the performance of MINONDER, which performed below expectation. Jockey Wilkinson stated that the horse travelled well in a position behind the lead but when he placed the filly under pressure rounding the home turn, it failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing in the run to the line. A post-race veterinary examination of MINONDER revealed the filly to be tied up following the event and was suffering from a slight bout of heat stress. Trainer S. McKinnon agreed that the filly was disappointing, adding that after arriving home with the filly was suffering from a mild case of the thumps. Trainer S. McKinnon was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for MINONDER prior to its next race start.

Race 3: Clear Cut Xcavation Maiden Plate – 1000m
1st – Absalon 2nd – Captain Cooper 3rd – Matilla Bay 4th - Pincent

The connections of CAPTAIN COOPER, which proved difficult to load and hung out rounding the first turn, were advised that a warning was being placed on the gelding regarding its barrier and racing manners.

ABSALON (E. Wilkinson), which was slow to begin, was tightened for room shortly after the start between CAPTAIN COOPER (B. Looker) and PINCENT (M. Reuben), which shifted in.

PINCENT, which overraced at the heels of CAPTAIN COOPER approaching the 800m, then made the 800m turn awkwardly and shifted out and had to be checked from the heels of JABIRU DREAMING (W. D'Avila) and lost ground.

SWEET DRAGON (J. Kropp) raced wide throughout.

PINCENT hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 4: Phase Developments Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st –Rogertheredneck 2nd – Freyadane 3rd – O’Dehere Me 4th – Dayjur’s Magic

As L. Rolls was indisposed, K. Wharton was substituted as the rider of DAYJUR’S MAGIC.

O’DEHERE ME (M. Reuben) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

A short distance after the start, O’DEHERE ME and STAR ECLIPSE (M. Gray) were both tightened for room between GOLD RECORD (D. Missen) and FREYADANE (D. McWhinney), which shifted in.

O’DEHERE ME overraced during the early stages and leaving the 1000m shifted out, forcing FREYADANE wider on the track. FREYADANE raced wide from that point onwards.

FREYADANE made the home turn awkwardly and shifted extremely wide.

ROGERTHEREDNECK (T. Huxham) raced wide throughout.

M. Gray, rider of STAR ECLIPSE, reported that, in his opinion, the horse did not appreciate racing on the synthetic surface.

Race 5: A Bailey Plumbing Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Collossus Of Rhodes 2nd – Sweet Little Filly 3rd – Fragar 4th – Platinum Touch

SWEET LITTLE FILLY (G. Colless) shifted out at the start, making contact with PLATINUM TOUCH (M. Gray).

BULGA CREEK (M. Hellyer) jumped in the air as the start was effected, forcing COLOSSUS OF RHODES (E. Wilkinson) in on to the hind quarters of PLATINUM TOUCH.

FRAGAR (D. Griffin) overraced during the early and middle stages, and at a point approaching the 500m became unbalanced and had to be checked from the heels of COLOSSUS OF RHODES before being forced to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running.

M. Hellyer, rider of BULGA CREEK, reported to stewards that, in his opinion, the horse may have got its tongue over the bit, which, in his view, had a detrimental effect on the horse’s finishing effort. Trainer Mr G. Jeffrey agreed with M. Hellyer’s assessment and advised stewards that the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell following today’s performance.

COLOSSUS OF RHODES lost its off fore plate in running.

M. Gray, rider of PLATINUM TOUCH, was fined $200 for using his whip in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 6: Power Integration Open H'cap - 1400m
1st – Mystical Grey 2nd – Release Me 3rd – Irishkiwi 4th – Final Crunch

The start of this race was delayed when FINAL CRUNCH proved difficult to load.

MYSTICAL GREY (S. Galloway) was slow to begin.

MYSTICAL GREY was momentarily held up for clear running when rounding the home turn.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey D. Griffin regarding the below-market expectation performance of BEVAGNA. He stated that, in his opinion, the horse failed to run out a strong 1400m and was under pressure approaching the 400m. Trainer M. Mair agreed with jockey Griffin’s assessment, adding that he would restrict the mare’s future starts to shorter distances. A post-race veterinary examination of BEVAGNA revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg and had lost its near hind shoe. Trainer M. Mair was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for BEVAGNA prior to its next race start.

W. D’Avila, rider of LOTS OF SUCCESS, was fined $100 for using his whip in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 7: SOS Plumbing Services (Qld) Pty Ltd Class 1 H'cap - 1100m
1st – Madame De Lago 2nd – Sequalo Revenge 3rd – I’m Busy 4th – Finagle

MADAME DE LAGO (M. Reuben) hung out rounding the home turn and continued to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages, which resulted in the horse finishing extremely wide on the track.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the below-market performance of PRADA PRINCESS. Jockey Taylor stated that he was forced to ride vigorously during the early stages in an attempt to hold a position, adding that the filly was inclined to lay in under pressure. He further stated that at no stage did PRADA PRINCESS feel comfortable in its action and became unbalanced rounding the home turn and proved disappointing in the run to the finish. Trainer M. Kropp was at a loss to explain the performance other than to state that the horse’s best performances have been over longer distances, and in those circumstances has been able to obtain the lead easily during the early stages. He undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which becomes apparent with PRADA PRINCESS that may have had a bearing on today's performance.

Race 8: Phase Developments Class 5 H'cap - 1100m
1st – Bob And Dolly 2nd – Heartsun 3rd – Harney 4th – Deltarara

HARNEY (Michael Palmer) jumped away awkwardly.

FRETON (A. Pattillo) was tightened for room at the start between PRINCEOFTHEPLAZA (N. Thomas) and DANEODIN (Matthew Palmer), which shifted in.

Shortly after the start, DELTARARA (Michael Hellyer) was tightened for room between HARNEY (Michael Palmer) and PRINCEOFTHEPLAZA, which shifted in.

DELTARARA made the 800m turn awkwardly and shifted out, forcing both PRINCEOFTHEPLAZA and FRETON (A. Pattillo) wider on the track.

HEARTSUN (K. Wharton) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cassidy regarding the performance of OUR MR CASHMAN. L. Cassidy stated that, in his opinion, the horse may not have been entirely comfortable on the synthetic racing surface, and in his opinion was under pressure from leaving the 600m and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer A. Williamson confirmed his disappointment in the performance and advised stewards he would be sending OUR MR CASHMAN for an immediate spell.

When questioned regarding the performance of FRETON, A. Pattillo stated that, in his opinion, the horse was not suited to the distance change from 1200m to 1100m. He added that, in his opinion, FRETON would benefit from the run and would be more suited to distances above 1200m where the horse is not required to be pressured in the early stages to hold a position. Stewards noted the comments.

N. Thomas, rider of PRINCEOFTHEPLAZA, was reminded of his obligations regarding whip use on horses out of contention.

A post-race veterinary examination of BOB AND DOLLY revealed the horse to be sore in the off foreleg. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to its next race start.

Race 9: SOS Plumbing Services (Qld) Pty Ltd Class 1 H'cap - 1100m
1st –Ceramic 2nd – Fiesta San Fermin 3rd – Bayonet Charge 4th – Kasturie

CERAMIC (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

CERAMIC and SMIRNOFF LASS (J. Kropp) raced wide throughout.

Stable representative for trainer Ms Maryann Thexton, Mr C. Austen was advised that KASTURIE, which stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground, would be required to trial satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
