STEWARDS REPORT Thursday July 15th 1999

WEATHER: Overcast
TRACK RATING: Slow
Moveable rail out 6 metres for the entire circumference.

RACE 1
EDWARD CORBOULD MEMORIAL HANDICAP 2200 metres

A post race Veterinary examination of JACK'S DREAM which tailed off failed to reveal any physical abnormality however detected that the gelding had lost the near fore plate during the event..


RACE 2
NEIL MANSELL LANDSCAPING SUPPLIES HANDICAP 1400 metres

ROCKET CHARGE jumped away very awkwardly.
Shortly after entering the straight STRICTLY FLYING was inconvenienced by SURPRISE ATTACK which shifted out to obtain clear running.


RACE 3
OASIS RESORT HANDICAP 1400 metres

RARE REVIEW was slow to begin.
On jumping FANDANGLES was cramped for room between HELLO NORMA JEAN and MOOCH SMOOCH.
Passing the 1200 metres YOBOB'S HOPE and QUEEN JUDE were hampered when cramped for room between HELLO NORMA JEAN and KUAKA QUEEN both of which shifted ground slightly. QUEEN JUDE then commenced to over race and approaching the first turn had to be further restrained due to RARE REVIEW shifting out. I'M KATIE which was following was inconvenienced at that stage.


RACE 4
STEWARTS HOTELS HANDICAP 1000 metres

SAHARA COVET jumped away very awkwardly making heavy contact with the inside front gate which resulted in C. Munce's right foot becoming dislodged from the stirrup iron As a result of becoming unbalanced C. Munce's left foot also slipped from its iron which placed C. Munce at a considerable disadvantage for the entire event..
TERJULE and YOUR SAY were both inclined to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 5
BLACKLAW & SHADFORTH HANDICAP 1000 metres

NOVA SERRURE jumped away awkwardly.


RACE 6
CALOUNDRA CITY 14TH ANNIVERSARY CUP 2400 metres

Trainer G. Rogerson was fined the sum of $50 for failing to provide the Document of Description for ONE MAN OUT.
Upon return to scale a protest was lodged by D. Spriggs rider of 4th placed PIERMONT against MIDNIGHT BABE (M. Pelling) being declared the equal first placegetter alleging interference near the 300 metres.
It was established that after initially being impeded for a run between WALTAZAR and SIR HUMMER, PIERMONT was inconvenienced near the 300 metres when MIDNIGHT BABE shifted out under pressure.
Given the margin which separated both horses at the finish Stewards dismissed the objection and confirmed the judges placings.
S. Seamer rider of CATAPULT was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in soon after the start resulting in MIDNIGHT BABE and BREAK THE BANK being hampered.
Approaching the 1800 metres PIERMONT became unbalanced and shifted out making contact with MR. LATELY.
After passing the 1800 metres BELIEVER shifted in tightening MIDNIGHT BABE.
PIERMONT again had to be steadied. MR. LATELY which was following then raced awkwardly at the heels of PIERMONT for some distance.
Approaching the home turn PIERMONT had to be steadied off the heels of SIR HUMMER which shifted in under pressure. J. Taylor rider of SIR HUMMER was cautioned.
At the entrance to the straight MR. LATELY was crowded for room between the tiring REPUTED GROOM and PIERMONT which shifted in to obtain clear running inside SIR HUMMER. D. Spriggs rider of PIERMONT was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
A post race Veterinary examination of REPUTED GROOM which performed disappointingly revealed the gelding to have sustained lacerations to the off hind suspensory. A swab sample was taken from REPUTED GROOM.
A post race Veterinary examination of BOZEMAN which also performed disappointingly failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 7
NOOSA FILM FESTIVAL HANDICAP 1300 metres

After travelling a short distance WHERE'S PALMWOODS shifted out taking DAWN LANDING out on to CORKER which had to be steadied.
Approaching the finishing line DAWN LANDING was hampered due to BEEN THERE'S BEST shifting out under pressure. Apprentice J. Baker rider of BEEN THERE'S BEST was severely reprimanded for failing to make a greater effort to keep his mount on a true course.

RACE 8
XXXX BITTER HANDICAP 1000 metres

As N. Jolly became indisposed following race 7 he was replaced on DOUBLE GLORY by K. Pope.
After being loaded MELSAMITE became fractious and lashed out repeatedly Acting on Veterinary advice MELSAMITE was declared a late withdrawal at 4.58pm.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on MELSAMITE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 9c in the dollar on the face value of both win and place bets..




GENERAL: Bookmaker S. Donoghue was reprimanded for being in breach of LR 119m in that he failed to enter a credit bet placed on MIDNIGHT BABE into his betting ledger. Stewards were satisfied that the breach occurred due to an oversight during a busy period of betting activity.








All winners and REPUTED GROOM (Race 6) were swabbed.
