STEWARDS REPORT Sunday October 10th 1999

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Fast.
Moveable rail in true position.

CHAIRMAN: Mr. G. Ireland
QPC STEWARDS: Mr. A. Reardon, Mr. D. Collingwood, Mr. P. Gillard.
QPC CADET STEWARD: Miss S. Gillespie.

GENERAL: As G. Palmer was indisposed he was replaced on the following:
Race 2 APULLSA C. Reith
Race 3 UNRULY BEHAVIOUR G. Spriggs
Race 8 MOTHER BROWN S. Galloway

RACE 1
BEACON LIGHTHOUSE PLATE 1200 metres

Acting on Veterinary advice FIE D'OR was declared a late scratching at 9.25am when the filly was found to be sore in the near foreleg. Trainer Jamie Nielsen was advised a Veterinary Certificate must be obtained for FIE D'OR prior to its next race start.
ALCO SPRITE jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 800 metres NECTAR commenced to over race and had to be steadied off the heels of BRAVE TRINKET.
Passing the 100 metres REDACHI was tightened for room between BLAZING SUCCESS which shifted out and SAINT HALO which was taken in slightly by WOBBYGONG.

RACE 2
POINT CARTWRIGHT PLATE 1200 metres

YALLAH'S GIFT jumped away awkwardly and hampered SLIGO PRINCESS.
YALLAH'S GIFT raced ungenerously throughout the event and had to be checked off the heels of PRINCE BLAZE in the early and middle stages.
Trainer Peter English was advised a warning has been placed on YALLAH'S GIFT regarding its racing manners.

RACE 3
BUDDINA BEACH HANDICAP 1800 metres

The start was delayed when PARADISIAC had to be replated.
MORINGA'S HERO, HANG ON, OUR ANGEL and VIRGO'S BROTHER were all slow to begin.
Approaching the 1600 metres RELATE shifted in taking A HORSE CALLED MAN in on to VARNIE which became unbalanced.
A short distance later VARNIE shifted out taking A HORSE CALLED MAN out on to VIRGO'S BROTHER which had to be steadied off the heels of ARBSCAY.
IN THE DARK which was following shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of VIRGO'S BROTHER.
Near the 1400 metres ARBSCAY got its head up and raced ungenerously.

Race 3 Contd..
Approaching the 700 metres A HORSE CALLED MAN had to be steadied when tightened for room between HANG ON and MIGHTY NICK which shifted out.
Passing the 600 metres PARADISIAC shifted out and brushed VARNIE which shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of RIPASYN.
Near the 200 metres DENYM LASS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RELATE which shifted out under pressure.
A post race Veterinary examination of ARBSCAY revealed the gelding had received lacerations to the near side and off side forelegs.

RACE 4
KAWANA WATERS BOWLS CLUB INC. HANDICAP 1000 metres

Approaching the 800 metres MY MAGIC had to be steadied when tightened for room by BAERAMI BABE which was taken in by SHILDAMAX . Jockey G. Doughty rider of SHILDAMAX was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
MY MAGIC was inclined to hang out making the home turn.
D. Craven rider of PAUSE accidentally lost his near side rein over the concluding stages.
Approaching the winning post HIEROGLYP shifted out under pressure and brushed PAUSE. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SHILDAMAX jockey G. Doughty stated that the filly had previously had a throat operation for a breathing problem and it was his opinion that the problem may have recurred.
A post race Veterinary examination of SHILDAMAX failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 5
JOHN SANDS (AUST) HANDICAP 1000 metres

KING CAL jumped away awkwardly.
WELD NO MORE was inclined to hang in rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight.
After passing the 300 metres AGGRAVATION was disappointed for a run between VIRGO'S HORIZON and MY LANCER which shifted out.
Passing the 100 metres KING CAL was disappointed for a run between MALTESE POWER and VIRGO'S HORIZON.
A short distance later KING CAL shifted out and made contact with MALTESE POWER

RACE 6
BETTA ELECTRICAL CUP 1000 metres

BOSTON jumped away awkwardly.
SPECIAL KNIGHT which also jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with SAHSIRT.
When placed under pressure in the early stages of the straight VELVET CLOUD shifted out taking BOSTON wider on the track.
FRONDS was forced to race very wide throughout the event.
Apprentice A. Morrison rider of NOOSA RESERVE was reprimanded for using an excessive amount of whip on a horse out of contention.

RACE 7
NORTH COAST NEWSPOWER NEWSAGENTS HANDICAP 1600 metres

Trainer Barry Bowditch was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for TANANDA by the required time.
RUSTY CRUISER reared as the gates opened and was slow to begin.
Near the 1200 metres SCENTANY was momentarily tightened for room when TANANDA shifted in slightly.
For some distance in the straight SCENTANY was held up for a clear run and approaching the 200 metres jockey M. Cahill rider of SCENTANY accidentally dropped his whip.

RACE 8
PACIFIC BOULEVARD HANDICAP 1600 metres

TRISTAFUN was slow to begin.
Near the 800 metres SKY ROYAL shifted in and made contact with KASATKINA.
Near the 750 metres KASATKINA was inconvenienced when SKY ROYAL again shifted in slightly.
Near the 400 metres MOTHER BROWN had to be steadied off the heels of KASATKINA.





All winners were swabbed.
