GENERAL: Apprentice A. Merritt was fined the sum of $100 for failing to produce a letter of authority.
RACE 1
92.7 MIX FM HANDICAP 1200 metres
AGITATOR was declared a late scratching at 8am when the colt hurt itself when being loaded on to the float. Trainer Tony Sears was advised a Veterinary certificate must be obtained for AGITATOR prior to its next race start.
GLEN MONARCH shifted out at the start and made contact with TELL SOMEONE.
SEAANA jumped away awkwardly.
SUNDAE JESTER raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event.
After passing the 400 metres ECSTASY shifted out to improve and made contact with SUNDAE JESTER which shifted out and brushed TELL SOMEONE.
A short distance later ECSTASY shifted out and made contact with SUNDAW JESTER on two occasions.
Leaving the 300 metres JUST ON DUSK shifted out taking ECSTASY out on to SUNDAE JESTER which had to be steadied.
RACE 2
WIN T.V. NEWS HANDICAP 1300 metres
Prior to the start HYMNS reared in the barriers causing the saddle to shift to one side. HYMNS was subsequently taken out of the barriers and re-saddled.
RACY RHYMER was severely crowded on jumping away between PERFORM and WINGS OF SILVER both of which shifted ground.
PERFORM and SOCIETY SIREN were both inclined to over race in the early stages of the event.
RACE 3
SUNSHINE COAST DAILY HANDICAP 1300 metres
HERO’S PULSE was declared a late scratching at 1.21p.m when the gelding was unable to be loaded. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on HERO’S PULSE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 2c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 3c in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
Trainer Ray Kernick was advised that HERO’S PULSE must pass an official barrier test prior to its next race start.
Apprentice A. Merritt reported that on jumping away the saddle on IMPORTED PRINCE shifted placing him at a disadvantage throughout the event.
RACE 4
XXXX HANDICAP 1800 metres
As M. Bennett commenced his suspension at midnight on 20th January 2001 he was replaced on SANDY SEA by M. Cahill.
On return to the enclosure jockey L. Harris reported that in the barriers prior to the start DONBRODI had put its head down and torn the off side cup of the blinkers and in his opinion this may have impaired the mare’s vision throughout the event.

DOMBRODI was hampered on jumping away between BEER BELLY ROB and COMET WAY both of which shifted ground.
BANDAGES raced wide throughout the event.
RACE 5
GILLETT ELECTRICAL HANDICAP 1000 metres
CRAFTY SILVER reared on jumping away.
VIROSCO and I USED TO DREAM made contact on jumping away.
KELSO REEF jumped away awkwardly.
After jumping away awkwardly LEE CHEREE shifted in and made contact with ROW BOAT.
Approaching the 700 metres MORINGA BLUE shifted in on to BEN MAGIC causing that horse to be checked and taken in on to PALTROW which was inconvenienced. Jockey S. Shield rider of MORINGA BLUE was severely reprimanded over this incident and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
Near the 200 metres CRAFTY SILVER had to be steadied off the heels of LEE CHEREE which shifted in abruptly.
RACE 6
CALOUNDRA CITY SUMMER CUP 1400 metres
Trainer Gerald Ryan was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for DASH OF BAY by the required time.
As the gates were released MAJOR VICTORY reared and got caught up in the barriers and took no further part in the event.
Trainer Bryan Guy was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained for MAJOR VICTORY prior to its next race start.
A Veterinary examination of MAJOR VICTORY revealed the gelding had sustained minor lacerations to the nose.
Approaching the 200 metres DYNAMIC REASON shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced BRIGHTER SCENE.
RACE 7
ABIGROUP HANDICAP 1400 metres
PALATINO shifted out at the start and made contact with NORTHERN LANCER.
MAGICO was slow to begin.
After jumping away awkwardly PALATINO shifted out and made contact with NORTHERN LANCER which shifted out taking DOFF out on to the hind quarters of SILVER VALLEY.
Near the 200 metres DOFF had to be steadied off the heels of WOMANHOOD which shifted out to improve.
Trainer Nick Flouskos was advised that ROJAH AMBER which bled will now incur the mandatory three month ban from racing.
RACE 8
CALOUNDRA RSL HANDICAP 1300 metres
KWILA STAR was slow to begin.
Leaving the 800 metres turn INTENSIONS shifted out and made contact with PETITE HANNA.
DAMIKA was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 300 metres when being struck with the whip KALISSA shifted in abruptly causing CARAMEL STAR to be steadied.
A short distance later apprentice M. Rodd again pulled the whip on KALISSA allowing the mare to further shift in causing DINNER’S READY to be checked and lose its rightful position.
Apprentice M. Rodd rider of KALISSA was found guilty of a charge of careless riding and suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight on Wednesday 24th January 2001 and to expire at midnight on Friday 2nd February 2001.
