STEWARDS REPORT Sunday September 2nd 2001

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Good
Moveable rail out 9 metres for the entire circumference.

RACE 1
HORSE OF THE YEAR 2000-2001 PLATE 1600 metres

SCOOBIE SNAX jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. .
In the early and middle stages ORIGIN WARRIOR was inclined to over race.
Approaching the 200 metres KING LEO shifted in and brushed ORIGIN WARRIOR.
Near the 100 metres KING LEO shifted in under pressure and had to be steadied off the heels of WATERSPRAY.

RACE 2
XXXX HANDICAP 1200 metres

Trainer Trevor Fay was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for MURRIAH by the required time.
As jockey B Driver was indisposed he was replaced on NADUCE by S. Galloway.
GLOBAL LOVER and BINT O’REILLY were both slow to begin.
SON A BOW shifted in on jumping away and brushed the side of the barrier.
Making the 800 metres DANE NEWS shifted out forcing SON A BOW wider on the track. From that point SON A BOW was forced to race in a three deep position until near the 500 metres.
When placed under pressure in the straight HARRY’S HAT was inclined to shift outwards.

RACE 3
LIANNE CROOK MEMORIAL HANDICAP 1200 metres

On jumping away MUJAHID shifted out and made contact with PALOMINE GOLD.
After passing the 800 metres BRAVE ACTION shifted in causing CANTANTES to be steadied. As a result of this incident GO TEMPO was inconvenienced and REDWAY brushed the running rail. CLANGER which was following over reacted to the incident and shifted out abruptly.
A.Russell rider of BRAVE ACTION was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Rounding the home turn REDWAY shifted out to improve forcing GO TEMPO wider on the track.

RACE 4
MICHAEL RODD HANDICAP 1800 metres

CONTENTED PRINCE was hampered on jumping away between KARAVAS and DAWN LANDING both of which shifted ground.
ADMIRAL’S LASS pulled hard in the early stages of the event.
Approaching the 400 metres SEAWELL shifted out to obtain a clear run and made contact with SEMI IMPOSING.
KARAVAS was unable to obtain clear running in the early stages of the straight.

RACE 5
KEN POPE HANDICAP 1000 metres

CAPTAIN MALLORY reared as the gates were released and lost ground.
ATLANTA FLYER jumped away awkwardly and was unbalanced for a short distance.
Near the 600 metres ATLANTA FLYER was inclined to lay in and struck the heels of ST. ANTON causing that gelding to become unbalanced.
Approaching the 300 metres DANZIP was disappointed for a run between DAMAGED and MAGICAL MAN which shifted in. DANZIP then shifted out to improve and in doing so inconvenienced LIVA LIVA.. Following this incident DANZIP shifted out and made contact with CAPTAL MALLORY.
Near the 200 metres N. Jolly rider of DANZIP accidentally dropped his whip.

RACE 6
TREVOR MILLER HANDICAP 1000 metres

After jumping away awkwardly WAWEE shifted out abruptly and lost considerable ground.
MAMA SAL which was a little slow to begin was tightened for room shortly after the start between MAGIQUE SKY which shifted in and FONTINA which was taken out by SAHAR AMBER.
After passing the 700 metres FONTINA struck the heels of MAGIQUE SKY and blundered.
Near the 500 metres FONTINA shifted out and made contact with TROPICAL AIR.
Approaching the 300 metres FONTINA continued to shift out and bumped TROPICAL AIR on a number of occasions.

RACE 7
JOHN O’BRIEN HANDICAP 1200 metres

Trainer R. Heathcote was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for METAL MERCHANT by the required time.
ILLUSIVE SPY, MY PAL AL and SHOWZON were all slow to begin.
Approaching the 200 metres ILLUSIVE SPY had to be steadied when disappointed for a run to the inside of METAL MERCHANT when that gelding was taken in by LATIN QUARTER.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of ANALYTIC trainer P. Duff stated that at its last start at Doomben on the 25th August 2001 the gelding was forced to race in a three deep position throughout. He further stated that ANALYTIC appeared to be better suited to the track conditions in today’s event. His comments were noted.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ILLUSIVE SPY apprentice M. Rodd stated that after being slowly away the gelding was forced to race inside of runners which in his opinion does not suit its racing pattern. He further added that ILLUSIVE SPY performs best when racing outside runners. His comments were noted.
A post race Veterinary examination of ILLUSIVE SPY failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 8
CALOUNDRA R.S.L. HANDICAP 1300 metres

I SEE RED jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1200 metres QUIN THE ESKIMO, CANADIAN TIME and DAMIKA were all tightened for room by QUEEN AMIDALA which laid in despite the efforts of its rider apprentice Z. Purton.
After leaving the 600 metres QUIN THE ESKIMO shifted out taking ST. BASIL wider on the track.
ST. BASIL was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.





All winners plus ILLUSIVE SPY (Race 7) were swabbed.
